A Human’s Guide to Surviving Magical Mishaps by Kit Bryan
Rule 47- If you break something you have three choices, fix it, hide it, or admit the mistake and face the consequences.

Dad- How do I know that this fae is safe?

Kat- Because Ashton says he is. I trust Ashton and you trust me.

Dad- You've only spent a few days with Ashton and I had to send George to help you at the scene of a murder.

Kat- That's not his fault! Besides, the moment he realised that there was any risk at all he sent me away. You can't blame Ashton. Think of it this way, I'll have TWO fae keeping an eye on me. I'll be even more safe. Please dad? I already told him that he could stay.

Dad- He can stay for tonight. I'll decide in the morning when I meet him if he can stay longer than that.

Kat- Thankyou!!! And what about the whole not mentioning it to the mayor thing?

Dad- I'll decide that in the morning too.

Kat- Okay, just don't go doing anything without at least warning me first, agreed? Dad- Agreed.

I drop my phone and turn my attention back to the two fae who are currently whispering to each other while hitting buttons on the TV remote, seemingly at random. The TV is off though so apparently they haven't actually found the right one to turn it on yet.

"We're all in the clear. Dad said you can stay." I tell them. Well, for tonight at least. But as much as he grumbles, dad isn't the type to kick anyone out, particularly not someone who has nowhere else to go. He's not going to be happy about it, but we now have a second houseguest. I remind Ashton which button on the remote turns the TV on so that he can continue doing show and tell for his friend. A knock at the door tells me that the pizza has arrived. I rise to answer it but before I can, Fin is on his feet and carefully making his way across the room to get it for me. I frown. It's one thing for Ashton to insist for safety reasons. But why is Fin doing it? At least he appears sort of human... ish. I hear quiet chatting from the front door and the voices are both male so I guess the delivery person is a guy. It's probably for the best. Fin returns a moment later with the pizza boxes and a bag full of drinks. He looks curious and both he and Ashton are sniffing at the air so I'm guessing they like the smell of the pizza. I direct him to put the boxes on the table and I run to the kitchen to grab glasses. I ordered a few different drinks with the pizzas. I figure the guys might enjoy taste testing a few. If they don't like them then dad and I can drink them later.

The pizza goes down well and the fae men spend almost an hour testing and comparing the beverages I bought. I wish that everyone was so easily pleased. We're all on a bit of a buzz from sugar and carbs when I decide to take the chance to get to know Fin a bit better. He's perched on the edge of the couch.

"So... Ashton was explaining a bit about how people get their magic to me. What kind of magic do you have?" I ask. The question is nosy, but then again this guy just invited himself here and he doesn't seem to mind anyway. Fin glances at Ashton as he often seems to do and waits like he's asking for permission. Ashton nodes easily and Fin immediately launches into an explanation.

"Perhaps I will start with a demonstration." He says thoughtfully. Without another word, Fin picks up his empty glass as well as Ashton's and slams the two of them together so hard that they both shatter. I leap out of my seat in surprise but neither fae seems shocked or bothered so I force myself to sit back down and watch the demonstration. The fae drops the shards of glass onto the table then holds his hands out over them. I watch on in fascination as the shards begin moving and shifting until they are completely reassembled then with a cracking sound all the damage just vanishes. Fin removes his hands and both glasses are sitting on the table, whole and undamaged. "Woah, you can fix things?" I ask. Fin nods.

"Yes sort of. My magic is based on order. I can restore order to damaged items and return them to their original condition." he explains.

"Cool, I mean awesome. Can you fix anything?" I ask eagerly and Fin shakes his head.

"No, I have limitations. I can only work magic on inanimate objects, not living creatures. I also must have all the pieces of the broken object present or the magic will fail. I cannot make something from nothing." He answers. "Is it difficult to do?' I wonder aloud. Fin shrugs.

"It used to be difficult, when I was a child it would have taken me hours to repair the two glasses, but I am far more proficient at it now. I had a lot of practice repairing items while chasing after my prince." he stares at Ashton pointedly. Ashton just grins proudly.

"I chose the perfect attendant. I cannot count the number of times I avoided trouble because he was there to restore order before I could get in any serious trouble. Besides, behaviour is not reckless if there is someone standing by to repair what is broken." he laughs and I grin.

We spend some time watching TV. Ashton and Fin both ask a lot of questions about the movie and I do my best to explain everything. We're all getting tired when I decide it's time to give Fin a proper tour of the house before bed. Standing up, I lead him through the house giving him the same tour I gave to Ashton when he first arrived. I let him know where he can find me at night if he needs anything, and I grab a blanket and pillow from the hall cupboard. Ashton moves to assist me with carrying them but Fin steps in and collects them from me before he can, earning him an irritable glare from Ashton which I think is a little dramatic. We return to the living room to get him set up for bed when I notice something interesting. It seems like Fin is being particularly cautious about where he walks. He carefully walks down the middle of the hallway, he doesn;t cut corners going through doorways and makes sure to stick to the exact centre and he practically tip toes his way around the coffee table he is being so careful. I would say he is worried about breaking something but after his display of magic that doesn't seem like a particularly good explanation. I sigh, feeling bad as I set up the couch fo him to sleep on. It doesn't seem nearly large enough. Fin might not have a bulky build, but he's still a fairly tall guy. The couch really isn't big enough for him. Still, I don't have anything better to offer. I say goodnight to Fin and Ashton walks me to my room. He takes my hand and bows over it again, kissing the back of it lightly.

"Thankyou for allowing my friend to stay here. I understand that it is an inconvenience and that it could cause conflict between you and your father, and I appreciate your willingness to assist.” he says sincerely, causing me to blush. "It's not a big deal. It's been interesting meeting your friend. I guess you were right when you said I would meet more fae.” I joke. Ashton nods.

"So it would seem." We stand silently in the hall for a minute before I excuse myself.

"Night Ashton." I say, turning towards my door.

"Good night Angel.” He answers, a teasing tone in his voice. I roll my eyes but can't help a smile as I close my door and get ready for bed.
