Before the clock struck midnight, he dropped her off and gestured toward her home, saying, “It’s late.

I won’t come up and disturb your mom.

“How do you feel?” he asked in a hushed tone, his expression serious as he gazed at her.

He didn’t explain but she caught on slowly.

With that, he planted a peck near her lips.

When he pulled back, they locked eyes in silence.

Returning home, Jessie found Lettie still awake.

After her shower, she lounged on her bed and texted Axell for a while.

Setting her phone down, she mulled over Albert’s proposition.
