The man poured the wine as he spoke.

With no hesitation, Leonel drank the three glasses, finishing them all.

“My apologies for being late.

Is this good enough of an apology, Mr.

Herrera?”

Zeke Herrera patted him on the shoulder, a satisfied smile on his face.

While it was true that Leonel had a favor to ask, Zeke still had to give him due respect, considering Leonel’s position and influence.

Few men in Deufron dared to cross him.

Anyone with half a working brain knew better than to try and push his luck with such a powerful man.

“You can surely really hold your liquor.

Please have a seat!” Zeke said.

He gestured to the women and introduced them to Leonel.

“Aren’t they all lovely?” he added in the end.

Leonel was no stranger to such situations.

He knew Zeke was up to something, but he worked for the government, so there were many things he couldn’t do himself.

For some matters, he had to rely on other people.

Tonight, it would be these women.

Sure enough, a woman named Kimora was his lover.

She had a pure and beautiful appearance.

Holding a drink, she shyly greeted Leonel and raised her glass to propose a toast.

Leonel couldn’t refuse her in front of Zeke, so he clinked his glass against hers.

He knew what he had to do next.

After drinking from her glass, Kimora exchanged a look with Zeke.

Zeke said cheerfully, “We can’t neglect this beauty here, either.

Leonel, this is Anika, a television anchor.

He said nothing more after that.

Leonel knew then that Anika didn’t work for Zeke.

But when Leonel looked over, he was stunned.

He had almost forgotten about her, but now that she was sitting next to him… The woman smiled at him, her gaze full of admiration.

Leonel didn’t like importunate women.

Last night had been nothing but an accident.

He didn’t really do anything to her, but her presence reminded him of unpleasant things.

He was cold and aloof, and he didn’t bother talking to her.

Zeke could only assume that Leonel didn’t like Anika.

Dinner went on for a couple of hours until it was time to leave.

Leonel got up and bid goodbye to the others.

He spoke in a formal tone.

“It’s gotten late.

I’ll have a drink with you next time, Mr.

Herrera.

Thankfully, Zeke let him go and didn’t force him to stay.

Leonel walked out of the room.

Across the floor, the crystal lights from above cast their incandescent glow.

His head throbbed from having been drinking for two nights in a row.

Gently, he rubbed his temples, trying to ease the tension.

His secretary immediately came forward and asked, “Sir, would you like a hangover cure?”
