Jessie’s surprise mingled with confusion.

Why had he returned?

Jessie, in a fluster, attempted to disentangle herself, urging him to release her grasp.

But the moment her hand touched the back of his, he captured it in his broad palm, playfully toying with her fingers.

Leaning his head against her slender shoulder, he breathed lightly, “You’re making a cake.

Albert tightened his hold, gently nipping at the back of her neck.

Then suddenly, he let go of her.

Leaning against the counter, Albert felt a wave of fatigue wash over him after the long drive.

Though he yearned for a cigarette, he resisted, mindful of Jessie’s presence.

Instead, he stowed the cigarette pack and lighter back into his pocket.

Observing Jessie’s diligent piping, he noticed her sculpting a figurine out of cream-a representation of him.

In a softer tone, he offered an explanation.

“I wasn’t scheduled to return until later, but seeing the snowfall, I decided to come back early to keep you both company.

”

Jessie’s response came as a whisper.

“Just keep Jeslyn company and spare me.

”

Albert remained silent, simply gazing at Jessie in the soft glow of the kitchen, He couldn’t get enough of her presence.

To avoid causing her any discomfort, he had exercised considerable restraint over the past six months.

Apart from that one time months ago, he refrained from engaging in any s@xual activity with her.

He made a conscious effort to maintain his decency, and gradually, she began to let down her guard.

Sometimes, when he was preoccupied with work, Jessie would even take Jeslyn to her place for a few days.

“I want to stay here with you, but I need to go upstairs to shower and change.
