Looking at Alexis, his voice shook as he asked, “Are you off for a prenatal check-up? Do you mind if I tag along?”

His voice wavered with the request.

He feared Alexis might turn him down and dreaded the thought of her giving him grief.

After a moment’s thought, Alexis responded tactfully, “I’ll send you the results after.

If you wanna know more, just ask my assistant.

She answered graciously, as if they’d parted on good terms.

Leonel’s fingers trembled in his pocket, clenched tight… After a long pause, he whispered, “Sure! I’ll wait here.

Alexis nodded and headed out.

Outside, the PR manager lingered.

Despite failing to win her boss ‘favor, she was still on duty.

She had to justify the hefty paycheck Leonel dished out each year.

As Alexis exited, the PR manager couldn’t help but scrutinize her, silently comparing herself.

She wanted to see where she fell short compared to Alexis.

But as she looked at Alexis, she realized she’d lost…

She stood frozen, watching Alexis depart.

Just then, Noreen returned, holding Leonel’s results.

“Mr.

Douglas, the doctor suggests you stay put for two days and get some rest.

”

Leonel glanced at the report.

In a monotone voice, he requested, “Just hook me up with two IVs.

”

Noreen wanted to speak, but then thought better of it.

Leonel could sense his secretary’s worry, so he responded calmly, “I’m good; don’t stress.

”

Noreen’s tone softened as she continued, “If you’re still not feeling great in the next few days, you gotta follow the doc’s advice, alright?”

This time, Leonel decided not to argue with Noreen.

He was supposed to get an IV drip, but he was worried Alexis might not find him afterward, so he chose to wait for her.

Knowing Leonel well, Noreen sat by his side patiently.

Every now and then, Leonel would cough.

Noreen handed him a cup of water along with some pills.

“Take these for now.

They’ll help.

”

Leonel nodded and took the pills.
