They were almost strangers now.

Still, Leonel didn’t set her down.

He carried her back to the main bedroom, pausing in the long hallway to press her gently against the warm, brick-red wall.

Mindful of her dislike for the cold, his hand supported her back tenderly.

He lowered his head, his lips brushing the base of her ear.

“Do you remember your birthday two years ago? The one where you got drunk and we ended up doing it right here?” he whispered hoarsely.

“I still remember how that felt.

Do you, Alexis?”

“I forgot.

Alexis responded quickly, her voice tinged with anxiety.

She didn’t want to remember; those memories were too shameful.

That night had been reckless.

Their relationship was already strained back then, and that night, under the influence, she had succumbed to him.

Over the next month, Leonel had used alcohol to coax her into intimacy repeatedly.

But could such moments of drunken s@x truly salvage a failing marriage?

The thought left Alexis feeling hollow.

As these memories resurfaced, a flush of embarrassment colored her cheeks, adding a softness to her usual formidable presence.

At work, she was strong and commanding.

Yet, Leonel reminisced about how tender she was with him, how she seemed to love his embrace, calling out his name softly, like a plea, during their intimate moments.

Leonel fixed his gaze on her.

“I won’t let you forget,” he murmured.

“I’ll make you remember each moment.

After a moment, Alexis managed a weak smile.

“I’d rather forget it all,” she said softly.

“The good and the bad.

I wish I could reset my memories, so I wouldn’t have to feel this pain.

It was the first time she had openly acknowledged her pain to him.

Leonel’s expression tightened, his voice a low rumble.

“Alexis, do I still cause you pain now?”

Alexis wasn’t sure if Leonel was still causing her pain.

What she did know was that Leonel was sincere about starting anew and that there would be no more women like Anika in his life.

Yet, she also knew a reconciliation was impossible; the vivid images of Leonel’s betrayal were etched too deeply in her mind.

Before she could voice her thoughts, a servant emerged from the master bedroom.

Upon spotting Leonel and Alexis in the corridor in a compromising position, the servant blushed but promptly greeted them.

“Sir, the crib is ready! Please check it to ensure it’s placed correctly.
