It felt like a ritual to him.

He was determined to make his last farewell to Alexis memorable.

He looked at her in silence and she also looked back at him.

Eventually, Leonel broke the silence and said softly, “Let me go freshen up.

Make sure you close the window so you don’t catch a cold.

”

“Okay,” Alexis replied.

Leonel looked at her for a few more seconds before leaving the study.

As soon as he stepped into the master bedroom, he saw little Cordelia, and he couldn’t help but think that she had gained some weight in the last two days.

He bent down and gave her an affectionate ki*s.

Two days ago, when Alexis asked him if he wanted to raise Cordelia, he had answered in the negative.

But the truth was, how could he not want his own flesh and blood.

After all, he had lost Alexis, and spending time with Cordelia would probably make his life easier.

But then again, Alexis had almost died in the operating room when she was giving birth to Cordelia.

So how could he have the heart to snatch this baby girl from her mother?

Since her health was not in good shape, it was clear that she would be in greater need of the baby’s company.

In other words, Leonel would have no choice but to give Cordelia up and let Alexis have her.

He stared at the baby for a long time before finally walking away.

He went directly to the cloakroom and picked up a set of clean clothes.

Then he went over to the guest room to take a shower.

When he returned to the master bedroom, he saw Alexis there.

From where he stood at the door, he said to her in a gentle tone, “I’ll be in the guest room tonight.

I might come over to check on Cordelia if she wakes up later in the night, so don’t lock the door.

”

“Okay,” Alexis replied flatly.

When he was on his trip, Leonel had pondered about it many times.

He tried his best to convince himself that Alexis no longer loved him like she used to and he came to the conclusion that he shouldn’t touch her or share a bed with her anymore.

But no matter what he thought, he just couldn’t control himself.

“Don’t you have anything to say to me?” he asked as he walked closer to her.

Alexis stared at him in confusion for a moment.

Then she said, “Leonel, I sincerely hope you’ll live a happy life in the future.

”

Leonel suddenly felt a lump form in his throat.

No words could describe how he felt at this moment.

He turned around and all but ran out of the room in embarrassment.

Just like he said he would, he went to sleep in the guest room.

There was only one wall separating their rooms.

Throughout the night, neither of them fell asleep.

Leonel came twice to the master bedroom to check up on Cordelia, even though he knew that Alexis was wide awake and aware of his presence.
