Night snuck up on the horizon quietly, just like their moment of parting which had snuck up on them so swiftly.

They didn’t even get the chance to taste the wine, nor did they finish eating the well prepared meal.

Alexis leaned against Leonel’s shoulder and said in a low voice, “Goodbye, Leonel.

Then, one by one, the boxes were carried into the trunk of the car by the driver.

Leonel watched as Alexis finally got into the car with the baby in her arms.

With his eyes fixed on her, he saw her close the door gently.

Then with tears in his eyes, he rushed over to the driver side and said to the driver, “I’ll drive them back by myself.

”

The driver hesitated for a moment.

Then he shrugged and said, “Okay.

Drive carefully then.

”

Leonel jumped into the driver seat and held the steering wheel tightly.

“When you get abroad, send me a postcard if it’s convenient,” he said to Alexis.

“Or you can send me some pictures of Cordelia so I can see how she’s doing.

”

“Okay.

” Alexis agreed.

They both felt sad.

As a result, they didn’t talk much.

Without another word, Leonel started the car and drove off.

Since he was transporting Alexis and Cordelia, he drove very carefully, which was not his usual style.

The night got darker and darker as time passed.

Lights flashed behind them as their car ran steadily along the road.

Inside the car, there was total silence.

At some point, Leonel wanted to ask whether Alexis would like to drink some water, but just as he opened his mouth to speak, a truck in the opposite lane suddenly went out of control and began to run in their direction at full speed!

The lights of the oncoming vehicle shone on them in its full glare.

As far as he was concerned, it was a good thing that he was here with Alexis and the child.

Thank God he made the decision to drive them by himself.

With a resounding crash, the black limousine collided head-on with a large vehicle coming its way.

The front of the limo wedged under the hood of the opposite car, its rear end lifted, wheels spinning idly.

Plumes of smoke billowed up.
