Book 3- Chapter 9

He didn't expect me to know so clearly, he threw himself at me, hugging my legs and wailing for forgiveness.

"I'm sorry! Lark, I know I was wrong!"

"I'm an asshole! I'm a bastard! I deserve to die!"

"But you have to believe me, I really love you, you're the only one llove!"

"It was that bitch Sage who seduced me, I was just confused for a moment."

"Lark, Lark I beg you, forgive me. Give me another chance, I will never do anything to betray you again in this lifetime, don't leave me."

Perhaps at this moment, Ryker was sincere, but his sincerity had already become worthless after one deception after another.

I couldn't forgive him. Trust is a consumable resource.

If I forgive him, I will live in suspicion every day of my future life.

I will become paranoid, unreasonable, full of hostility.

Sooner or later, he will tire of me, and even I will despise myself.

I don't want to see that day come.

Thinking of this, I took a step back, pushing away his hand.

"Ryker, you once told me that you would treat me well for a lifetime, and asked me to trust you."

"I believed you, I believed you until now."

"We could have had the most perfect and flawless love in the world, but you destroyed it with your own hands."

"I can never trust you again. From the moment you first slept with Sage, our relationship was doomed."

Ryker looked at me, seeing the resolution in my eyes.

He knew that I wasn't throwing a tantrum, nor was I expecting him to beg for forgiveness. I had truly made up my mind. "No!"

"Lark, the child! We still have a child!"

"For the sake of the child, give me one more chance!"

Ryker tried to use the child as his last bargaining chip to make me change my mind.

But before he could finish speaking, he was interrupted by Knox, who strode in through the door.

"I'm really sorry, the child in Lark's belly is not yours."

Knox walked to my side, reached out to wrap his arm around my waist and pulled me back. I instantly fell into his embrace. Ryker was completely stunned: "..Senior?"

"What do you mean?"

"Lark is my wife, how could the child in her belly not be mine but yours?!"

Knox shrugged: "No choice, it really is mine."

Ryker instinctively shook his head, looking at me in disbelief:

"Lark, tell me, he's lying, right? What he said isn't true, is it! Say something!"

I looked down at him, my voice devoid of any warmth.

"Ryker, two months ago that day, you and Sage were having an affair in the car, and left behind a used condom."

"The earring Sage lost is still lying in my bag."

"You asked where I disappeared to for a day and night, right?"

"Now I'm telling you, I was with Knox, in his car."

"No..."

Ryker shook his head in collapse: "No! It can't be, why did you do this, why???!!!"

I looked at him silently, then leaned back into Knox's arms, smiling sweetly.

"Playing joyrides in the passenger seat? Not only you could enjoy."

"Ryker, let's get a divorce."

With these words, I turned and left, holding Knox's hand.

From behind came Ryker's almost blood-curdling howl and Sage's insane laughter.

And I, never looked back once.

After that day, I never returned to that home.
