I had never seen so many slaves and commoners running through the kingdom and attacking before. It was nearly a blood bath. The king and the duke had their men firing their firearms and killing people on contact. The sounds of the explosions were ear- shattering and Mateo was screaming in my arms.

The slaves fighting were so young; they were fresh from the farms. I noticed some familiar faces of those she bunked with during my time on the slave farm. I saw mostly unfamiliar faces though; not all of them were from the farm. There were a lot of older slaves that were from different villages and even commoners as well.

I was amazed at the turnout of everyone wanting to fight for their freedom. I couldn't believe, out of all wolves, Marlon was the one who made this happen. He emerged from the woods with an army of slaves and commoners, and they were ready to fight. None of them cared if they died while fighting; they just wanted their rights back.

They outnumbered the duke and king's armies by a ton. However, they were also much weaker so I knew it wouldn't take much for the army to slaughter the slaves and commoners. The thought of everyone dying because of me was troubling, but I was so proud to have this revolution taking place.

This was what I wanted; I wanted to fight to end slavery. I wanted to release these slaves from their chains and set them free. Now they were free, and they could choose to do whatever they wanted. What they wanted was to fight; they had a taste of freedom and now they wanted to fight to continue that feeling.

Kamala was with Marlon when he emerged from the woods; we were both shocked to see one another. Kamala was a good friend of mine when I was on the slave farm. She had a troubling past before landing on the slave farm, but we clicked almost instantly when we met during our childhood. We were both on the transport cart the same day and we were both at the quarantining station being examined.

I was the only one of us two that made it back to the cart and sent to the Roessler home. It was assumed she was killed because of how weak and ill she became during her time on the farm. She proved to be useless; they liked when the slaves were weak and beaten, but they needed to still be useful to the noble and royal families.

I stared at Kamala in shock as she stared back at me, equally in shock.

"Deonna?" She said, her voice nearly hoarse as she stared around my features.

Her eyes landed on Mateo and her mouth dropped open; I'm sure she wasn't expecting this.

"You know each other?" Marlon asked, stepping to my side.

Kamala's eyes widened even more as she stared between Marlon and me; then her eyes landed on Mateo again. Mateo looked almost exactly like Marlon, except with a bit darker feature. She would have to be blind if she didn't figure out that Mateo was Marlon's

son.

"Oh my god," she breathed as it clicked.

I turned to Marlon, my face reddening as I looked up at him.

"We were friends on the farm. I thought she died. How did you find her?" I asked, my voice sounding distant.

"She was hurt. I stumbled upon her outside the farm. She helped me set them free," Marlon said, motioning for the slaves that were rampaging through the town.

"How do you two know each other?" Kamala cut in with her own question; she was still staring at me with her mouth hanging open.

"I was assigned to his manor..." I explained. "Then, some stuff kind of happened," I added, looking down at Mateo.

"You had a kid with him? A nobleman?" She asked in a gasp.

I nodded once and sighed.

"Now isn't the time to talk about it," I told her as I looked across the kingdom and watched more slaves getting the fatal blow of firearms.

Some of the armies were transitioning into their wolf forms and manually killing the weak slaves. I winced as I watched blood splatter from their weak bodies.

"I need to find Bob and the rest of my men," Marlon said to us. "But I need to make sure you and Mateo are safe. I'm taking you back to the manor for right now."

I pressed my mouth into a thin line.

"I want to stay and fight," I told him, putting my foot firmly on the ground.

He stared at me like I just struck him.

"You need to keep our son safe," he hissed to me between gritted teeth. "I will not argue with you about this."

I opened my mouth to say something, but I could see the fear in Kamala's eye as she stared around at the commotion around the kingdom. Mateo stirred uncomfortably in my arms and began crying again as the sounds were too much for him.

As much as I wanted to argue and fight for our freedom, I also had to do right by my son. I needed to make sure he was safe, and I wanted to make sure Kamala was safe too. Kamala had always been sneaky because it was in her nature and it's how she grew up, but she wasn't a fighter. There's no way she would be able to fight in this battle without dying.

She was my one and only friend from the farm; I thought I lost her once, but I won't lose her again.

"Kamala comes with me," I said as my condition.

Kamala looked over at me confused.

"What?" She asked.

"You come with me to the manor. You are my friend, and we need to protect one another," I told her.

She looked surprised; we both looked at Marlon. He didn't argue.

"Fine," Marlon said, agreeing.

"No, I need to stay and fight with my people," she argued.

"We won't be useful to them if we die. Once we win this war, and one way or another we will win, they are going to need direction. They will need your direction. You need to stay alive for them. They made their choice; they chose to fight for their freedom. Now you need to make your choice; do you want to die, or do you want to stick around and help make a difference?" I asked.

She thought about it for only a moment and then she nodded in agreement.

"How do we get there undetected?" She asked.

"We run," I told her.

I bundled Mateo up in his blanket and placed him on the ground beside me. I changed into my wolf form; it was much easier transitioning now that I was more used to it. She gasped as my dark fur came to be and I stood there in my natural form. Marlon breathed out in awe as he stared around my dark-furred body. He transitioned right after me and we both looked at Kamala, waiting for her to do the same.

She transitioned; it looked as though it pained her a little bit because she wasn't fully used to it. Even after she left the farm, she hardy used her wolf form, but that didn't mean she was completely foreign to it.

I grabbed Mateo from the blanket, and we took off. We ran through the town, dodging any attacks that came out way. Thankfully, there weren't many attacks because they were all focused on one another. We weren't going to stop to see if anyone noticed us; we continued running until the manor came into view. The sight of the manor only made us run faster; Marlon passed by some of his men, and he quickly gave them orders as we continued running.

Bob was nearby the gates with some of the guards; he was in his wolf form, and he was ready to head out to fight.

"I need you to get Deonna and Mateo to safety," Marlon ordered him.

Bob frowned, upset that he was back on babysitting duty.

"And Kamala," I added, motioning for Kamala who was beside me.

Bob's frown deepened.

"Are you serious?" Bob muttered. "Another one?"

"Bob, I need you to do this," Marlon ordered him. "This is important. I need to make sure they are safe. I'm going into town to fight."

"I want to fight too!" Bob argued.

"You need to stay here and fight anyone who tries to intrude. You need to keep our estate safe," Marlon ordered him; his voice booming through the streets. "That's part of being the sole heir." Bob's eyes widened.

"You mean...?" Bob began to ask but his voice trailed off.

"Protect this estate and the ones inside, and it's yours," Marlon promised him.

Bob didn't hesitate, he nodded and ran through the gates with Kamala trailing closely behind him. I was hesitant because I knew Marlon wasn't coming with us.

"Go," Marlon ordered me.

"What about you?" I asked him; I could feel tears burning in my eyes.

"Don't worry about me..." Marlon said softly. "But I need you to get to safety. I'll be joining you shortly," he promised.

I looked down at a terrified Mateo and knew I had to get him out of there safely.

I nodded and took off towards Bob and Kamala.

Marlon was gone by the time we got to the door of the manor. The fighting was loud but distant; I prayed that we would be safe here and that we wouldn't need to fight in front of Mateo. I transitioned back into my human form and held Mateo close to my chest to try and comfort him.

I pushed open the doors to the manor and came face to face with the duke. His dark eyes were darkening as he came closer to me. Some of his men stood behind him, holding back some of the workers of the manor, including Bob.

Kamala was being chained by one of his men and she was struggling against him; tears flooding down her tanned features. I could see the fear in her eyes, or it was the fear from my eyes reflecting at me as I stared at her.

I could feel my heavy heart turning into weight and sinking into my stomach as I stared around the angry men.

"Chain her and take the kid," the duke hissed to his men.

"No..." I said, stepping away from them. I was ready to turn and begin running, but they were much faster and stronger than I was.

One of the men grabbed my arm and dug his fingernails forcibly into my flesh; I screamed out in pain as the other man ripped Mateo out of my arms. I could hear him screaming as the guard was not gentle with him and forced him into the manor. "Mateo!!!!" I screamed to him; tears flooding down my face.

I felt one of the guards jabbing his knee into my spine making me nearly fall to the ground; before I could land on the ground, he was already lifting me from my limbs and smashing me into the wall of the manor. I could feel blood trickling down my forehead and some from my nose. I was getting lightheaded as he smashed me against the wall again.

I was having trouble breathing as Mateo's screaming got more distant.

"Where are you taking him?!" I asked, tears mixing in with the blood on my face.

"Let her go!" Bob yelled as he struggled against the guards as well.

I heard one of the guards taking his gun and smashing it against Bob's skull, knocking him out completely.

I screamed again.

Kamala had eventually stopped struggling and was just watching me fight for my freedom; she sat on the ground with chains bound to her, tears flooding down her features, and her body trembling from the fear she was feeling.

I felt the tightness of the chains around my arms, legs, and then eventually my neck. I felt lightheaded from the blow to my face and headed, not to mention the fact that the chains around my neck made it difficult to breathe. "Mateo..." I gasped out, trying to maintain my breath. "Please..." I begged, barely audible.

"Take her to the king's jail," the duke ordered.

That was the last thing I heard before everything went black.
