Who did that girl think she was?

She had no right to be that mouthy to the son of a nobleman. She needed to know her place; she needed to learn her place. But if anything happened to her, Deonna would be on his tail. If Deonna was on his tail, then his father would surely be on his tail as well. It wasn't fair.

He wasn't supposed to be nice to the slaves. His father born and raised him to hate the dark-furred wolves. They were disgusting, unordinary, uneducated, and vile creatures. That's what his father had always taught him. Now his father was in bed with one and allowing another one to sleep in the guest bedroom.

A chill went down his spine as he thought about it.

Kamala was definitely an interesting thing. She didn't seem to fear him as most slaves would. Then again, she was protected by his father, so she probably felt safer with that knowledge. If only she knew she wasn't as safe as she thought. Nobody was.

"Bob?" A familiar voice said through the wolf link.

Alex.

It was a few days after his initial conversation with Kamala and he was sure he had her fresh out of his mind. But the thought of her being around was still irritating. Now that irritation was being directed at Alex. "We need to talk," Alex spoke again.

Bob groaned; the last wolf he wanted to speak to, was his brother. His brother was supposed to be gone. They had an agreement when they fought near the creek. Alex was to leave and not return, in return for his life.

Petra wasn't as lucky; she died before Bob could speak with her. His plan wasn't to kill anybody, initially. But Petra was so close to harming the dirtball baby and Deonna was running straight for her. Bob felt as if he didn't have much of a choice in the matter. "I told you before," Bob growled through his link. "You aren't supposed to be here."

"I know, but it's important," Alex insisted.

It wasn't like Bob to be the civil and mature one; typically, it was Alex that got Bob out of most trouble. Bob was the one who wanted to have fun and enjoy life. While Alex was the one who studied and kept a calmer head. Though, he was greedy and only cared for himself. He didn't care about the kingdom; he only cared about what kind of power he could hold over the kingdom.

He wouldn't be a fit nobleman. Even their father knew it.

"What could possibly be that important?" Bob asked; he nearly spoke out loud that time and had to catch himself.

A maid walked by and gave him a funny look; he gave her a sheepish grin and ducked into the corner of the hallway where he would be more hidden.

"Petra is alive," Alex told him.

Bob paused; he stayed silent for a long while. Waiting for Alex to start laughing as though it was some big joke.

Bob didn't find it funny.

"Impossible," Bob said once he realized Alex wasn't laughing. "I killed her. I watched her die."

"But she didn't," Alex said in a harsh whisper. "I saw her wolf form a few days ago."

"Are you sure it was hers? I'm sure others look like her," Bob told his brother, he was annoyed.

"I know her scent very well," Alex stated.

Bob figured considering they were working together, they probably ended up sleeping together at one point. It's not that Bob wouldn't have done the same if he was in Alex's position. Petra was one of the hotter maids. He definitely thought about having his way with her more than once. However, Bob was still surprised that Alex was bold enough to sleep with a maid considering he was always asserting the rules.

Bob rolled his eyes at the thought of his brother being a hypocrite.

"Where did you see her?" Bob asked after another pause. "Mooncrest," Alex answered.

Mooncrest was the kingdom that the duke ruled over. It was a small kingdom with not many wolves occupying it. Most of the kingdom was made up of the duke's castle. Small homes were boarded around the castle for the rest of the wolves that resided in the kingdom. However, the duke was dead.

Marlon made sure of that when the duke had Deonna and Mateo captured and sent to the king's holding cell. Bob wasn't sure who was occupying the castle, but he found it weird that Petra would be hanging around it. "What was she doing there?" Bob asked; he wasn't going to let this worry him just yet.

"She was walking into the castle," Alex answered.

"Why?" Bob asked, urging him.

"I don't know," Alex said.

"Who's residing in that castle?" Bob asked.

Alex paused for a moment as if he was thinking hard about the answer.

"I'm not sure," Alex finally stated. "I don't think anybody."

"Somebody has to be," Bob said, annoyed.

"I don't know. I just wanted to warn you that she's alive and that she's probably up to no good," Alex said in a hurry.

Bob pressed his lips in a thin line as he let Alex's words process for a moment.

"Why are you warning me? Weren't you working together a few months ago?" Bob asked, suspiciously.

"We aren't anymore. I thought she died. We haven't spoken since that day," Alex answered.

"You want me to believe that?" Bob asked, he felt a laugh in his throat urging him to escape his mouth.

"Believe it if you wish, or don't. I did my part," Alex said.

Bob could tell he was about to disconnect the link and spoke quickly before he did so.

"Why should I believe you?" Bob asked quickly.

Alex thought about it for a moment.

"Because I'm your brother," Alex said before disconnecting the link.

He left Bob there in his silent mind, processing all that has been told to him. He needed to warn somebody. He needed to warn his father. If it was true that Petra was alive, that means the danger was far from over. Deonna and Mateo's lives were at risk. Bob ran from the hallway down the corridor steps; he made it into the foyer and passed Winston who was occupying the door as he often did when he had no direct tasks to do. He brushed past a couple of maids who were cleaning the foyer, giving them sly smiles that stopped them in their tracks.

He had a way with women, of any fur color, that made him the most desirable to them. As he ran down the hall, he stopped in front of the great doors that lead into his father's study. He could feel his father's presence within the doors. But he could also feel Kamala and Deonna's presence as well, along with Mateo's.

He groaned at the thought of them all hanging out in his father's study. Like they were some cliché pack.

He took in a deep breath before tapping on the door gently. They silenced within the study before his father announced for him to enter.

They all stared at him, wide-eyed, as he entered the room. He looked around, confused. Curious as to why everyone was staring at him with such dismay.

Did they forget he lived there?

His eyes caught onto Kamala's dark green gaze and his words got caught in his throat. He almost forgot what he was about to say. She blinked at him a few times; her eyebrows raising, in a questioning manner. Wondering why he was staring at her so intently. He wasn't sure why he was staring at her either; but for some reason, he couldn't look away.

Her dark hair fell in a thick braid down her left shoulder; she was wearing a maroon dress that revealed the large cleavage she had and wrapped around her body, hugging her perfect shape, and expanding around her long narrow legs.

She had her delicate fingers entwined together and laid out neatly in front of her. Her fingernails were long and undone, and they looked as if she bites them when she's nervous.

She wore no makeup, and her large, plump lips were chapped and chipping. However, she didn't need the makeup because her features were already bright and enlightened her aura.

His wolf was howling at the sight of her. He noticed, when he saw her the night before, that his wolf had some kind of reaction to her. It wasn't as loud and obvious as the reaction it was giving off at that moment, though.

He couldn't help but wonder if she could feel it too.

It scared him.

Marlon cleared his throat, loudly, snapping Bob out of his trance. He looked over at his father who was staring back at him confused. Deonna was also staring at him, but she quickly shared a look with Kamala, and it spoke volumes. He instantly felt embarrassed.

"Petra is alive," Bob announced; trying to avert their attention elsewhere.

All their eyes widened; Marlon shot to his feet, slamming his fists on his desk as he did so.

"How do you know?" Marlon demanded to know.

Bob hadn't told his father, or anyone for that matter, that he spoke to Alex recently. They all assumed Alex was dead like Petra.

He wasn't sure how they were going to take the news.

"Alex told me," Bob said, after a pause.

He heard Deonna gasp as she held Mateo close to her chest; worry tracing her eyes as she looked at Marlon.

Marlon's face twitched at the mention of Alex and his eyes showed a fire that burned deeply in his wolf.

"Alex is alive?" Marlon asked.
