Kamala still felt exhausted after breaking the shield around the castle. She buried her face in her pillow and allowed the fresh tears to soak through the pillowcase. This couldn't have been what Nyx wanted for her? Why would the moon goddess have her do something that nearly took her life? She was completely out of control, and she couldn't be stopped.

She wasn't her anymore. She was someone else and it nearly destroyed her wolf in the process. She still remembered her wolf's pleas for help as she was being drained of everything she was. She sounded so tired and afraid; Kamala wanted to reach out to her wolf and pull her closer, but she was being ripped from Kamala's body.

She didn't think she was going to recover; she didn't think she was going to come back from it but then Bob intervened and knocked her out of it. He tackled her to the ground and made her whole again. She was so grateful to Bob for helping her, even though she didn't understand the motive behind it.

If he thought for a second that she was going to sleep with him just because he saved her, again, he had another thing coming. She wasn't going to subject herself to such things, especially because she wasn't sure how she felt for Bob.

She knew that her wolf was feeling some sort of way; she was insisting that Bob is Kamala's mate. But that couldn't be possible. Could it?

Deonna was mates with Marlon, one of the most racist men known to all the kingdoms. He was also the most dangerous wolf known to the kingdoms as well. They've heard nothing but terrible and horrifying things about him on the slave farm, but as soon as Deonna entered his manor, everything seemed to be different. He might have appeared to have a hard exterior at first, but Deonna saw something different in him.

She saw love.

So, why couldn't Kamala see the love in Bob? Maybe because there wasn't love. Maybe because his idea of love is s*x. She didn't trust him and the fact that her wolf did, brought fear to her.

She had to brush that thought out of her mind though; she couldn't focus on anything else. She had to figure out why Nyx would want her to suffer the way that she had. Why it was so important for her to use that light magic that's been stored inside her only for it to nearly consume her and destroy her wolf in the process. Why that power was stored within her in the first place and how long has it been there.

It couldn't have been there her entire life. It didn't make sense.

Just before she was about to drive herself crazy with these thoughts, there was a tapping sound on her door. She turned in time to see Bob standing at the door; per usual he felt he didn't need to knock. She supposed that technically he didn't because this was his family's manor. But at the same time, the manor was up in the air between him and Alex and it was completely destroyed. Plus, everything they've all been through these last few weeks. She thought that he'd at least have the decency to actually knock and wait for her to answer.

She could have been naked.

Though, he was probably hoping that she was so he could take advantage of her.

She rolled her eyes at the thought and a small growl roamed in the back of her throat. Her wolf was strengthening and coming back to her; much to her relief.

"I'm sorry if I'm bothering you," Bob said as he entered the room and shut the door behind her.

She rolled her eyes again and turned away from him.

"Are you sorry?" She asked, trying and failing to keep the sarcasm out of her tone.

"I am," he said, sounding a bit defensive. "I just wanted to check on you and make sure you're okay. I know you've had a lot taken out of you earlier."

She turned back around to face him, eyeing him carefully and trying to read his face.

"I did," she said flatly. "It was a lot."

"I know..." he said, taking a step closer to her. "I was worried..."

"Were you?" She asked, raising her eyebrows at him and still not sounding convinced.

He frowned and cocked his head to the side.

"Did I do something wrong? Because last I checked, I saved your life," he said, a bit too loud.

She folded her arms across her chest.

"You did save my life and I'm grateful for that. But if you think I'm going to sleep with you just because you..."

"Wait what?" Bob asked, interrupting her. "You think I saved you to get you to sleep with me? Seriously?" He asked, sounding way too defensive.

"I know guys like you..." Kamala said, still eyeing him.

"Clearly you know everything there is about me. I'll admit, at first, I wanted to see how quickly I can get you into bed. But that was then and..." he tried to continue but she stopped him.

"And this is now? You feel differently now?" She asked, she wanted to laugh at that thought.

His frown deepened.

"Yes, Kamala. Things are different now," he said, locking his eyes onto hers. "I don't want to just sleep with you. I can't explain it but all I wanted to do was protect you and keep you safe. When I saw that you were getting drained, it was destroying me. I felt my connection with you losing grip and that's how I knew I was physically losing you. Your wolf was calling for mine to help and I knew I had to."

"Your connection to me?" Kamala asked, raising her eyebrows.

"You're telling me that you can't feel our connection? Your wolf isn't pestering you about it? My wolf has been all about you since the moment you walked into this manor. As I said, I can't explain it. I've never had that happen before. But I know I don't want it to end. It can't end. The more we deny it, the stronger it'll get. You know it, and your wolf knows it."

He was right; the more she resisted him, the louder her wolf seemed to get. It was unfamiliar and she didn't understand what it meant. But maybe there was a possibility that he was her mate after all.

"Look, I'm not saying we have to run away together tomorrow and marry," Bob said with a light chuckle. "I'm just saying, I'm not after you for sex. I'm not after you for your body... even though your body is..." he began saying while scanning her body hungrily. She couldn't help but blush.

"Stop," she said, interrupting his train of thought with a soft chuckle. "I'm sorry for assuming..."

"Don't be sorry," Bob said, sitting down beside her. "I just want you safe and that's the only reason why I'm in here. Because I wanted to make sure you were okay after earlier."

She stayed silent for a moment, staring down at her hands as he sat down beside her on the bed.

"I'm also here if you need to talk about anything," he told her.

She gave him a faint smile. Maybe he wasn't so bad after all.

"Thank you," she said gently.

"You're welcome, my lady," he said, bowing his head as he stood to walk out of the door.

"Wait," she said, almost urgently; he turned to her once more. "Do you think you can stay with me tonight? I don't really want to be alone."

She wasn't sure if it was a good idea or not, but the request more so came from her wolf than from her and she didn't feel like denying it.

He looked puzzled at first, but then he broke into a grin and sat back down on the bed.

"Anything," he said in return.
