Chapter 66: Deadline

I wake up in the darkness of the room. I know a lot is going on and I... I've just been thinking about her. The problems continue and the pack needs me.

I get up and pull on my pants and a t-shirt, still looking at her. The bed is a swarm of sheets, and she is in the middle, lying on her side, sinfully naked.

I can smell my scent all over her skin, see the little marks on her body, her disheveled hair, and the nibbles that, frankly, I tried to avoid but couldn't. Not to mention that she kept asking me for more.

I notice my soft bite, barely noticeable on her backside, I run my fingers over the reddened spot and hear her pant.

I had to use all my control not to put my hand between her legs... and lose myself there again. We had spent the afternoon and a good part of the evening making love. For hours, I held her close to my body, kissing her as she possessed me. "Nate..." she said softly as if she recognized my touch.

"Shh, shh, shh, rest my love. I'll be back soon," and I tucked her in, leaving a trail of kisses down her back until I kissed her neck. I sighed and smelled her perfume.

I need to check that everything is okay. Being an Alpha is a serious business.

With pain, I walked away. Roger is waiting for me outside, and so is Naomi.

"I'll stay with her, Alpha," she says. And I walk with Roger to catch up.

"I talked to Marianne...but she told me she will stay in town."

"What, why?" I ask in frustration, Penelope will be very disappointed.

"I think she senses that strange things are going on, and she doesn't want to leave her people alone, she believes she needs to be there" my beta explains, and I am impressed.

Maybe humans can indeed sense something, they can have a kind of intuition and no doubt they are loyal to each other.

"On the other hand... since I arrived my father has been particularly nervous. He seems to know about Marco's plans and the attack on the Council meeting. He asked me if I was okay and what had happened, and I didn't give him much detail. And just in the early hours of the morning, he left the territory."

"Hell, none of this can be good."

"No... I wanted to tell you as soon as I could. I know it's my family, but..."

"I know, Roger, it must be really hard, but if it makes you feel any better, I don't trust my dad either," I tell him, and we just get a mindlink from Michael.

"Alpha! Come to your parent's house! Right now!"

"Damn... Luna Ruth told me a few minutes ago that she found something........" Roger says and we start running.

Indeed, I hear the shouting from outside, my father is saying harsh things to my mother, insulting her when she tries to defend herself. Michael waits outside.

"You can't abandon your son like that! You can't go against his wishes like this!" she screams and I hear a thud.

"He's the one who abandoned me, and not just me, but the whole pack! He's turned his back on everything we believe in and supports humans! Mating with one!" I hear him yell, and I come in like a hurricane.

"Stay away from her!" I yell as I see my mom in the corner, a table is broken and there are several smashed objects on the floor, my mom comes quickly and stands next to me while Roger and I protect her.

"You shouldn't get into mate's business," he says through his teeth, annoyed by the interruption.

"I don't care how much of an Alpha you think you are... you have no right to treat her like this..." I say.

"Your human made you weak... you go around thinking you're the savior of the weaker... " he says with hate. I snarl, and my father takes a startled step back.

"Watch your tone, father... you will respect my mother and my mate. And an Alpha is just that, someone who takes care of those who are not so strong. And now, I realize that you are not the Alpha I admired... you are a spiteful man full of hate. You have completely disappointed me," I tell him, and he snorts.

"You are the one who let me down. I thought you were going to be the Alpha that would lead this pack to glory, so many hopes were pinned on you."

"We must change, the perception we have of humans is wrong. They are necessary, in them could be all the mates that most have not found," I tell him, and he looks at me in disbelief.

"That's outrageous!" he shouts and comes towards me, red with rage.

"I'm telling you one last time son, you have until the end of this week to reject that human, take a she-wolf Luna, and get this pack back on track...so we can all walk with our heads held high. I haven't worked for years to make Moonstone an embarrassment," he says angrily.

"I'm telling you once and for all, that's not going to happen.... Penelope is my mate, and she will be Moonstone's Luna," I say defiantly.

"Enough of this nonsense! The council is right, and many Alphas agree. Humans need to be eliminated, and I'd rather die than let her be Luna than let her live in this pack!"

"It's not up to you to decide anything! You are not the Alpha anymore. And I am giving you another ultimatum myself: drop whatever plans you have with the other packs against the humans. Yes, I know you have been involved... or I will banish you. Believe me, I will not think twice," I tell him, and he looks at me in surprise.

"You wouldn't dare... "

"I will not let anyone harm this pack, my mother, my mate," I say.

"I will do what I think is right as my son is obviously not well.... he has lost his mind from fucking that fat traitor..." he says sourly, and I grab him by the collar of his shirt and lift him.

"Do you see it now? My human mate is the one who gave me this power, do you feel that?" I tell him and see him shaking.

I release him, and he falls to his knees, I expand my aura so that my mother and Roger are on the ground. I see my father suffering from my power. I don't like to do this, but I see no other way.

"Apologize to me... apologize to me for speaking ill of her," I tell him, but he says nothing.

Roger told me that my aura felt like a heavy cloak that was falling until it was completely suffocating.

"Say it!" I yell and hear the others gasp.

"I'm... sorry..." he mumbles forcefully and when I get my aura under control I hear him gasp.

I feel so powerful that I dare to do something I never thought possible, you can't give an order to another Alpha, but it can't hurt to try.

"I forbid you to speak ill of my mate and to insult and attack my mother from now on," I tell him, and he looks at me with wild eyes, and I think it worked. I leave him there, dejected, in the chaos of the room. "Mom... you can come live with me, or maybe stay with grandma..."

"I don't want to leave you..." she says, and I hug her.

"I don't know what to do with him," I say to Roger as we walk out.

"Maybe it's better to have him under our watch, keep an eye on him," he says, and I nod.

Roger, took my mom back to my house, and I went to my dad's office to see if I could get any information there.

I go through the papers and see that he certainly had contact with other Alphas, especially Marco's father, Alpha Karl.

I remember that he was quite a powerful Alpha and led Crimson Fangs to be one of the top packs.

"What is this?" I see that there is a list of she-wolves, heirs of each pack, and next to it a list of alphas. Most of them are Marco's followers.

"He seems to be looking for an alliance... this can't be good," I leave the office with some papers and suddenly bump into someone who seems to be waiting for me. "Regina..."

"Nate...is nice to see you! You've been so lost," she said as she approached me, making me want to quickly move away from her. "What do you want?"

"Don't worry Alpha... I just wanted to ask you a question. Why didn't you ever choose me?"

"What do you mean?" I don't understand.

"You... you went out with other girls, but you never even saw me," I don't even know what to tell her. I was never attracted to her.

"I just want you to know that I'm here. I have Beta blood, I'm your best choice...I could be yours, only yours" she says in a sultry voice as she tries to be closer.

" Choice?"

"I understand that the human is your mate and that the bond is very strong... but I know that you know deep inside that she can't be Luna..."

"How dare you?" I never expected her to be so bold.

"She can't give you strong pups, I can. The pack would accept me immediately... we could be perfect for each other"

"Never speak of this again, I forbid it. And stay out of my business" I say, holding back my anger.

"Just consider my proposal... you may need me in the end" she says and walks away.
