Chloe's POV

I couldn't move, I just stood there frozen as I replayed Jason's words in my ears.

This was my biggest fear, the possibility of Lizzie still being in love with Marcus and him picking her over me because of the presence of their child.

It was obvious Lizzie was here to steal my man.

It was definitely going to lead to a war between us if she dared it. I swear on the moon, I'd never allow her or any other woman to take Marcus away from me.

But I was scared to my wits because she had everything I didn't and I wouldn't come close if I decided to fight with her over Marcus.

She was beautiful, composed, a pure wolf, and far more experienced and had more memories with Marcus.

I couldn't get over the sultry look she was giving him all through the night, even though I pretended it didn't get to me, but it did.

How am I supposed to react?

Should I be mad or surprised?

The cold atmosphere of the room made it hard for me to even think properly.

Angelo cleared his throat, breaking the awkward silence.

"Guys, We've more serious things to do than bother about this mate thing." he said with disgust evident in his tone and I forced the urge not to roll my eyes at him because he hated it.

Unlike Jason, who proved to be hard headed at all times, Angelo was actually very soft and I wondered why he had not found his mate. He was speaking out of sadness and plain jealousy.

"More important things you say? Tell me, what's more important than the fact that I was rejected by my mate because she is still in love with my supposed brother-in-law who happens to be a public toilet!" He yelled and I cringed.

I felt disgusted when he referred to my husband in that manner but I couldn't defend him now because I was equally angry.

"But I thought you said you rejected her?" I asked and he hissed before step siding me and going to sit on the armrest.

"It's the same thing, she rejected me, so I had to reject her. I couldn't face that embarrassment all by myself. Just so you know Chloe, the battle line between me and that bastard has been drawn, I do not care if he is your mate. I am definitely going to have my own pound of flesh, when you have this child, you're unmating him." He said with jaws clenched.

I turned to see any hint of humor on his face but he was dead serious.

Swallowing uneasily, I turned to sit on the chair. I didn't have a response to give Jason right now but one thing was sure I couldn't unmate Marcus because of this.

It was a valid reason but I haven't imagined my life without him, we just had to find a way around it.

In a bid to divert our attention from all the chaos, I turned my attention to Angelo, who had been moving around the house and doing random inspections.

"What did you say is more important Angelo?" I asked, as Jason's intense gaze pierced the side of my head and I shifted on my seat uneasily.

"Finally, I thought neither of you was going to pay attention. Well, it seems mom didn't commit suicide like we all think."

Jason chuckled as he tapped his feet repeatedly on the floor. "I knew it! I knew you were going to keep making excuses for that woman. If there's something you don't know about mom, she's very smart. Trust me, she has had this moment planned from the very beginning because she must have had a glimpse of the future. This is not necessary, we are only just wasting our time!"

"Why do you hate mom this much?" I was the one who spoke this time, I just couldn't help it. I knew I wanted to avoid him but I wasn't comfortable with the way he kept apportioning blames on her.

"Hate? That's a nice word, trust me. Did you know I had a deep conversation with this woman a few days after she came back into our lives? I begged her, cried my eyes out and asked her not to leave, yet she still went ahead to break my heart this way! Listen, I'm dealing with a lot right now, if she wants to be with that dog of a husband she is free to do so."

An intense anger surged through me, and before I could help myself, I gripped him hard, almost ripping his shirt apart. He just stayed still, staring at me like I had suddenly grown horns.

"Don't you dare call my father a dog! Don't you dare! I'm not the one who asked you to be born by an irresponsible person. If you know you can't deal with your shit then you can as well just stay away from us!" "That's enough Chloe, let him go!" Angelo tried to push me off him.

Apparently my strength had doubled and I was fighting both of them at the same time.

"Leave me alone! Let me deal with this bastard! Don't ever insult my parents!"

I feel an intense pain that shoots through my body, it feels like my skin is burning. My skin is literally on fire and the pain spreads like wildfire making me groan in agony.

Standing on my feet becomes a struggle as my legs begin to wobble and my body begins to give in to exhaustion.

My lungs were burning up badly, my chest heaving uncontrollably as I struggled to gasp for air. My body spasming as my muscles twisted and cramped in agony.

In all of this, I was sweating profusely, my clothes sticking to my skin as my eyes rolled to the back of my head, my pupils dilated as my body succumbed to the pain and I lost control totally.

At that point, the burn had gotten to the climax. I could hear voices in whispers and echoes, my hands were being pulled in two directions but my legs were suddenly rotted to the ground preventing me from moving. Just then, I slowly move the ground as I hear a distant voice calling my name, darkness descends and everything goes silent.
