Chloe's POV

I had no words for them, I had no words for them at all.

Protection me from myself?

That's the most absurd thing I've heard in a long time.

I stormed into my room, slamming the door behind me with such force that the walls rattled.

"Protect me from myself," I muttered, pacing back and forth like a caged lioness. "What the actual fuck does that even mean?"

It was all I could do to contain my rage, my heart pounding in my chest like it was about to explode. My brothers, with their self-righteous bullshit and their damn 'I-know-what's-best-for-you' attitude. I was sick of it, it was too much.

They claim to be protecting me from something but I have no idea what they were protecting me from aside from the fact that they thought Marcus presence in my life was capable of causing harm. Why would my mate even hurt me?

Just as I was about to kick something-anything-I heard footsteps approaching my door. Not now, I thought, my jaw clenched in anger.

I wasn't in the mood for more explanations, more excuses.

But the door opened anyway, revealing a hesitant Angelo and a contrite-looking Jason. "Chloe," Angelo began, his voice soft, "We need to talk."

"Talk?" I shot back, my voice dripping with sarcasm. "You mean patronize me some more?"

Angelo winced, stepping into the room with his hands raised in a placating gesture. "Look, I know you're pissed off." he said, his eyes pleading with me. "But please, hear us out. All this is for your own good, mom is out there right now, somewhere and we've been searching everywhere for her. We can't afford to put you in harm's way. Can you just listen to us for once?"

I crossed my arms, standing my ground. "Listen? Don't think because you involved mom in this, you expect me to fold. I've been asking about mom's whereabouts for days since I got discharged but none of you have told me anything sensible, but for the sake of common sense, let me hear what you have to say."

Jason cleared his throat, his expression somber. "You need to understand, Chloe. Your powers, they're strong and unpredictable"

"Enough Jason! Stop making me feel like a fool. For the record, my powers have been there since the beginning and what has that got to do with what we are saying. Stop deviating! Give me back my fucking powers and let me get the fuck out of here."

"We can't Chloe, for the record we do not know the plans that dimwit has against you, we've a duty to protect you..."

"I don't need your fucking protection! I can fucking protect myself. Let me get something straight. I think the both of you're jealous of my powers, you always have. Well, it isn't my fault that you both are good as useless, break the fucking spell and let me get the fuck out of here."

"It'd do you a lot of good to stop spewing thrash, you might not see the intentions of our actions but with time you'd appreciate us. We actually thought you've a brain but as it is we are left with no option to stick with it, it's either we go with you to the hospital using our powers or you forget it!" Jason said, his face marred in a frown.

Arguing with them non stop was only going to complicate things and waste my time. I had no choice but to accept their offer even though it made me feel weak.

For some reason, I was so determined in proving them wrong with Marcus and warning them thereafter to stop meddling in my business.

I clenched my jaw, the frustration boiling in my veins like hot lava. "Fine," I snapped, the words tasting like ash on my tongue. "Let's just get this over with." With that, I reached out and grasped Angelo's hands, my grip as tight as my resolve.

They both exchanged knowing glances as they felt the tension in the air. I was almost close to tears and I didn't know when tears started streaming down my face. After a long tension filled moment, Angelo nodded. "Very well," he said, his voice low and solemn. "We will break the spell."

He closed his eyes and whispered words in a language that I did not understand, but did I care? No.

As he spoke, a warmth spread through my body, like a current of electricity, banishing the numbness I had felt since they had first cursed me.

I flexed my fingers, my body thrumming with power as I felt the familiar rush of adrenaline, the tingling of my skin as my senses expanded beyond the limits of human comprehension. "Thank you." I murmured, her voice thick with emotion.

"I know this wasn't easy for you, but I assure you, it's for the best, you both can't continue treating me like a puppet, I've my life to live remember?"

"It was necessary," Jason replied, his face still hard and unreadable. "Now, let's go. Let's find the truth."

"Wait..." I said the moment we were about to teleport and the both of them turned to look at me like I had suddenly gone mad.

I didn't know where the sudden feeling of dread came from but I wasn't just prepared anymore. I didn't just know how to face the worst if it truly happened.

"Chloe, trust me, it's best you know the truth now and get it over with."

"I know, just wait a little please, I just need to think, I don't know what has come over me but I assure you, we'd be out of here in a jiffy." I said blowing air from my mouth as I closed my eyes trying to steady my heavy breathing and for the first time since I got discharged, I saw it, I've really missed a lot of information these past weeks.

I saw my mom.
