He didn't reply, he just stood there observing her, watching for her next move. His eyes flickered to me and he looked surprised. I also was surprised at myself that I hadn't already moved to stop Chloe, my feet wouldn't let me even if I truly wanted to. "Retreat!" It was a command spoken calmly and in a whisper, but the seriousness it held was enough to make the werewolves around us all groan in surprise and disagreement.

"I said retreat, didn't you all hear me!" Edwin yelled again. This time, the werewolves shifted back into men and headed back to the woods, just as they had come. Edwin kept his eyes on us, as he began moving backwards. "This isn't the end, Blackwood, you will be seeing more of me!" And just like that, he was gone.

Narrator's POV:

Meanwhile, somewhere in the tallest trees in the woods, a man had stood watching. His cloak flower with the night air, his face squeezed with an ugly frown when the white haired lady offered herself as a sacrificial lamb for her mate. It pained him that she wasn't scared of death and for the past nineteen years, that was all he had wanted for her. To see her die by his own hands, to watch her beg for mercy as he sank his talons into her chest and brought out her heart. He had been watching her for sometime and he was kind of impressed with the way she had mastered her powers even when she had no one to guide her. He couldn't let her unlock more of her abilities, else she would become too strong and he could never be king if he didn't get rid of her soon enough!

The werewolf called back his pack and they walked away without harming her or her mate. It intrigued the man in the trees the way she had handled the situation with such wisdom, leaving the enemy in confusion.

He looked to where the werewolves were retreating and back to where the half breed stood. She still had not said a word to her mate, but just stood there glaring at him. He was torn in between following the werewolf to strike a deal, or waiting to listen in on the couple's conversation.

He went with the former, vanishing into thin air and appeared in front of the pack, startling them all. They all staggered back in fear and surprise, but once they noticed what was before them, they growled aggressively, taking defensive forms as they readied to fight him if a need arose.

"A vampire?!"

"What is he doing on Marcus's property?"

"Does he have a death wish?"

He heard all their whispers and grunts, but didn't let himself get intimidated by that. He let the murmurs die down, then clear his throat.

"I come in peace," he said, raising his hands in mock surrender. "I am not the enemy here, we have a mutual enemy so that makes us kind of friends?"

"I can never be friends with a vampire," the leader of the pack growled and the rest concurred. "Leave now before it's too late, I wouldn't hesitate to take your bloody pale head off!"

The vampire made a sound that sounded like a choked chuckle. "Edwin, why kill me even before listening to my proposal? Or don't you want to get your revenge on Marcus anymore? Did his little wife scare you?"

"She did not scare me," he growled, his face scrunched up like the mere thought of it, disgusted him. "I just wasn't prepared for how she acted and I couldn't give her what she wanted!"

"So why?"

"Why what?!"

"Why do you not want my help?"

He gave the vampire a look of disbelief. "For one; I do not remember telling you my name. Two: you are a vampire and I have no interest in doing business with you. And three:" he paused, looking like he was pondering on his reply, then said; "I do not trust you."

He turned his back on the vampire and the rest followed, as they continued on their way. He warned that the vampire left before Marcus got his hands on him, because he wouldn't be able to go unpunished.

The vampire thought for a second, then spoke. "What if I hand over to you the wife of Alpha Marcus?"

The werewolf halted, swirling back to meet the vampire's serious gaze. He scoffed in disbelief, but the vampire could see that he had gotten his interest. "How exactly can you do that? His wife seems the most crafty, and I do not think she is someone to mess wi-"

"She is nothing for me, but a little brat who got in the way of all my plans and ruined my life! I would hand her to you and no matter what you do to her, I do not care!"

The werewolf considered for a while, using two of his fingers to rub his chin lightly. "And what's in it for you?"

"Her death," he deadpanned. "I want her decapitated and burnt to ashes!"

The werewolf nodded in understanding, his eyes hardening as he thought far on some unpleasant event that had happened in the past. "I agree."

"Good. Just call me when you need me, I'll be there."

And without waiting to hear whatever the werewolf still had to say, he vanished. When he retained his position back in the trees, the couple were no longer by the little lake, they were nowhere to be found. He muttered a little curse under his breath, making a promise to keep his eyes on the hybrid for long enough to get her alone.

He willed himself to return home and in seconds, he was in front of the doors of the cave, high up at the peak of of dracula's cave. He moved towards the double doors and they parted open for him to walk through. He moved as quietly as he could, sneaking back into his cell room with the thought that the cave master(dracula), had no idea that he had been sneaking out for the last couple of months!
