Alpha's One Night Bride
Alpha’s One Night Bride – Chapter 38

“Where the hell have you been?!” Rock hissed as he opened the door to find Jonathan and me standing on his doorstep.

I could see the fiery anger outlining his dark eyes, sending a wave of chills down my spine. It’s been about a week since I signed the contract, and this was the first encounter I’ve had with him since then.

I knew he would be pissed at the fact that I’ve been avoiding him. But since finding out about my mother’s affair with Boris Conway, I wanted to find out what’s in that box more than anything.

“I’ve been busy,” I muttered as I stepped inside.

Jonathan trailed closely behind me; he kept his eyes on Rock and was ready to attack if Rock made any foul attempts. I felt protected with him there and appreciated that he kept near me.

“We have a contract,” Rock reminded me.

I rolled my eyes.

“How could I forget,” I spat sarcastically.

“Dr. Emily will be here shortly,” Rock informed me as I took a seat beside Jonathan on the couch.

The house was quieter than usual and then I noticed that Melissa and Ronnie weren’t anywhere in sight. It was weird because Melissa was always here and hovering over Rock, almost obsessively. I was kind of hoping I would see Ronnie. The last time I saw her, which was yesterday, she mentioned that Rock was after my unborn baby for unknown reasons. She also mentioned there were other things I needed to know, and I wanted to find out more information.

That was a huge reason why I was there, to begin with.

I already knew Rock was up to something with an ill attempt, but having Ronnie confirm my suspicions made me feel almost sick.

“Where’s Melissa and Ronnie?” I asked him as he sat across from me with a small manila folder in his hands.

He was reading the documents in the folder before turning his gaze to me.

“I sent them out,” he answered, his tone remained flat.

“Will they be here soon?” I asked.

“Why?” He asked, eyeing me carefully.

I shrugged casually; trying not to give my expression away. Something I’ve been trying to work on. Jonathan had told me time and time again that my face is easy to read.

“Just wondering,” I answered with my best fake smile.

He assessed my face a little longer before turning his attention back to the manila folder.

I looked over at Jonathan who was watching him steadily.

“What’s in the folder?” Jonathan finally asked him.

Rock turned his gaze to Jonathan. Without taking his eyes off Jonathan, he took a piece of paper out of the folder and slid it across the table in my direction.

It was a list that resembled a grocery list.

“I only want you to eat the items off this list,” Rock told me, still staring at Jonathan.

I took the list and scanned it with my eyes. It was all rabbit foods. Carrots, lettuce, cabbage, tomatoes, and other varieties of fruits and vegetables. There were no meats, pasta, dairy, or any other of my favorite foods anywhere on the list.

I frowned and looked back at Rock.

“There’s nothing good on this list,” I argued.

He finally peeled his eyes away from Jonathan and turned his attention back at me, rolling his eyes.

“It’s not supposed to be good. It’s supposed to be healthy,” he spat. “You need to have healthier eating habits if you want this pregnancy to work out in your favor.”

I hated to admit that he was right; I didn’t have the best eating record. I liked to snack on junk food vs healthy food. This pregnancy was already going to be difficult; I didn’t want to make it worse for myself.

Before we could say anything more, there was a tapping sound coming from the doorway. Rock stood to open the door and walked in a beautiful brunette with long shimmering hair that fell down her backside in a long braid. She was a curvy woman with a small waistline; she wore a white button-down collared shirt that hardly held in her busty breasts. She had on a bright pink bra, which was visible through her white shirt. Her shirt was tucked into a small black skirt that barely covered her thick thighs.

She was holding a blue duffel bag and her thick red lips turned upward into a seductive smile as she greeted Rock.

He was definitely sleeping with her.

“Dr. Emily,” he greeted as he gave her a gentle hug; allowing for her big breasts to press against his chest. “I’m glad you could travel all the way here for this. As spoken about, you are more than welcome to stay here until after the baby is born.”

I rolled my eyes.

Of course, he was allowing for this woman to stay in this house with him, his luna, and their child. Rock never ceases to amaze me.

I wondered how Melissa and Ronnie felt about that. This woman looked more like a prostitute than a doctor.

“Thank you,” she said back; her voice was as seductive as the rest of her.

Scanning the room with her hazel eyes, she finally landed her gaze on me, and the seduction left her face. She gave me a polite smile as she made her way around Rock and towards me.

“You must be Arina,” she said, reaching her hand out for me to shake it.

I hesitantly shook her hand in return.

“Yeah…” I muttered.

“I’m Dr. Emily. But you can just call me Emily,” she introduced.

Opening her duffel bag, she took out a stethoscope and placed them in her ears, pressing the metal part against the side of my stomach.

I shivered at the cold touch. After a few moments of making no sounds, other than the faint sounds of my breathing, she took the scope out of her ears.

“The baby has a healthy heartbeat,” she told us.

That was relieving to hear; I could feel Jonathan relaxing from beside me.

“I’m going to give you a vaccine that will keep you disease-free,” Emily said as she took a needle, filled with a green liquid, out of her bag.

“Is it safe?” Jonathan asked, eyeing her carefully.

She smiled at him.

“Of course, it is,” she answered.

I winced as the sharp needle was inserted into my right arm without much warning. It was a quick process and before I knew it, she was always placing a small band-aid over the part the needle went through. But I couldn’t help but feel slightly lightheaded.

“I forgot to mention it’ll make you tired,” she added with a sheepish smile.

I leaned my head against Jonathan’s shoulder, and he wrapped his arms around me protectively as I felt myself falling asleep.

I was trying hard not to fall asleep, but it seems that the vaccine she gave me was sedating me and forcing my eyes to close.

Before I could stop myself, darkness was closing in around me and the mumbling of the voices in the room began to grow more distant.

I woke up in my old bed a couple of hours later. Jonathan was also in the bed, holding onto me. I was thankful that Rock wasn’t in the room, but Emily was.

This room brought back a lot of memories for me; this was the room I shared with my mother. The same room she died in when I was only 7 years old. Over the last 10 years, I’ve tried not to revisit this room because of the memories and the hurt attached to it.

Sitting up quickly, I caught the sad looks of Jonathan from beside me.

“I know,” he said gently, reading my expression.

I hadn’t realized I had tears in my eyes until he wiped them away using his thumb.

“We are going home soon, I promise,” he assured me.

I gave him a thankful, yet weak smile before turning my attention to Emily who was writing something down on a chart. Once she noticed I was awake, she smiled and closed the chart.

“Oh good, you’re awake,” she said, happily.

My frown deepened as I tried really hard not to growl at her.

“You drugged me,” I accused her, keeping my voice low.

Now it was her turn to frown.

“No,” she said, sounding almost offended. “I simply vaccinated you. It’s to protect both you and your baby,” she explained.

“Why did I lose consciousness?” I asked; I could feel the heat rising in my cheeks as it often does when I get angry.

“It made you tired. That’s all. There was no foul reasoning behind it,” she assured me.

She looked over at Jonathan as if to ask him for help. He sighed.

“Once you fell asleep, she did a few scans on your body to ensure that everything was running smoothly. She gave you some vitamins and then we put you in here so you can sleep it off. We’ve been here for a few hours, and I didn’t leave your side,” he assured me.

“I don’t want you to think I’m here to cause you any harm,” Emily told me as she came closer to my bedside. “By this time next month, your baby will be developing its werewolf side.”

I frowned; that was what I was dreading. A were-baby was going to be formed inside of me. Just as a regular baby grows, the werewolf side of the baby also grows. Once the baby is born, the werewolf side is locked away until they turn 16. Fully developed were-women can heal and reflect any damages done by developing werewolves in their womb. However, considering I wasn’t fully developed yet, I was told it was going to be even more difficult for me. Possibly even fatal.

“I have some other vaccines and medications for you once that starts happening. Hopefully, it’ll help to heal any damages. I must warn you though, it’s not going to be easy. So, I’d get as much rest as you can.”

I nodded my thanks to her before she left. As she walked out the door, Ronnie poked her head in. A small, tired smile played on her lips.

I was glad to see her.

She was hesitant before speaking; her gaze fell, and she sighed.

“We need to talk.”
