100 miles per hour.
Jonathan watched as the meter on his car kept accelerating. If he had known that Ronnie would be in Blackcrest, he wouldn’t have bothered bringing his car. He could get there much faster in his wolf form. However, he needed the time to figure out his game plan once he got to Blackcrest. It’s not like the guards were going to just open the gates for him.
That worked so well last time.
His only hope was that the guards wouldn’t let Ronnie pass and she was somewhere outside of Blackcrest keeping a low profile. Or maybe she decided to just turn home.
That was wishful thinking; from the sounds of it, Arina said she was very optimistic and determined to prove herself. His only option at that point was to get a hold of Erick through the link.
“Erick?” Jonathan said, calling out to him.
“Already heading there,” Erick said immediately. “I’ll be there way before you. If anything happens, I’ll keep you updated.”
Jonathan sighed relief, knowing Erick would protect Ronnie.
“What about Arina? Is she okay?” Jonathan asked.
“She’s with Anderson. He won’t leave her,” Erick assured him.
“Okay,” Jonathan breathed. “Erick? Be careful.”
(Erick)
The gate was new and so were the guards. Erick didn’t remember all that being there when he was just a kid; then again, it’s been years and a lot has changed. He remembered a while ago when Jonathan mentioned that they had guards now and how they refused to let him through to Blackcrest. Erick was hoping they turned Ronnie away as well. However, she wasn’t outside of the gate, and he could smell her scent going into Blackcrest.
The guards didn’t look particularly happy to see him; in fact, they looked completely annoyed. One of them dared to roll his eyes and the other folded his arms across his chest.
“Let me guess…” the guard with his arms folded began. “Cute little redhead?”
Erick stopped moving and his frown deepened as he stared amongst the guards.
“Where is she?” Erick demanded.
One of the guards looked behind him through the gate and motioned his head in the direction went. Panic began setting in.
These dumbasses let a 16-year-old girl into Blackcrest.
That panic soon turned into fury.
“Allow me to enter,” Erick demanded, his voice booming.
To his surprise, the guards stepped aside.
“Just so you can get her and get the hell out,” a guard stated.
Erick nodded before turning into his wolf form and charging into the town.
It was easy to pick up Ronnie’s scent; she always smelled a bit like pine, which is one of the things he adored about her.
As he got closer to the town’s center, her scent only grew stronger, which made him run faster. Then the scent of Elijah filled his nose. His memory instantly went back to the first time he was in Blackcrest when he found Elijah having his way with that girl Sophie when they were teens. His stomach began turning just thinking about it.
He wouldn’t know what he was going to do if Ronnie had the same fate as Sophie. If Elijah put his hands on her, Erick knew for certain he was going to kill him and anyone that stood in his way. Fury rose through his body as he pumped all four of his legs and quickened his speed.
Ronnie’s red fur came into view as he neared the center. Another dark werewolf, he knew to be Elijah, seemed to be chasing after her. He was going a bit slower; it was like he was playing some sick game of cat and mouse. He was taunting her and others in the pack were just watching.
Her left shoulder blade appeared to have b***d oozing from the teeth marks he left on her. Even in her wolf form, he could tell how terrified she was.
He watched as Ronnie fell to the ground after Elijah’s sharp claws dug through her flash, slicing through her face.
Erick growled as he jumped in front of her, taking one of Elijah’s attacks in per place. Even though they were both much older than they were during their childhood, Erick was still much bigger than him.
“Erick?” Ronnie breathed from behind him; her voice sounded weak.
He turned slightly and he noticed she was now in her human form. B***d fell down her pale features; bite marks on her arms were growing puffy and bruises lined up around her ribs.
This infuriated him even more.
Turning back to Elijah, he lunged towards him. Elijah fell backward as the weight of Erick’s body forced him to the ground; Erick swiped his claw at Elijah’s face, tearing through the fabrics of his flesh. With a roar, Elijah kicked his bottom paws from under Erick, making Erick fall to his side as Elijah swiped in his direction.
His attack missed Erick.
Erick used his teeth to bite at Elijah’s neck; to reflect Erick’s attack, Elijah swiped at his face and managed to claw through him, pulling some of his furs out.
As Elijah clawed at Erick’s face again, Erick used his teeth to stop the travel of Elijah’s claws, biting to the bones of Elijah’s paw.
Elijah called out in pain, his howl echoing through the streets.
Erick lunged at him again at full force with his claws and teeth ready to dig into him again; he could see the slight fear in Elijah’s eyes. Elijah knew he wasn’t strong enough to fight off Erick; he never has been, and he never will be. The thought of Elijah fearing him, brought a sense of joy to Erick, knowing he was going to win this battle.
Another growl and scent halted Erick in his tracks; he turned to see an even darker wolf staring at them. He was built bulkier, and his dark beady eyes were laced with hatred.
Erick watched as Elijah scrambled to his feet; from Elijah’s approach, Erick knew this other wolf had to be Alpha Graham.
Revealing a row of long and pointed teeth, Graham approached the two fighting wolves.
“Why is there fighting in my town?” His voice boomed through the town as his Alpha voice rose.
Most werewolves were already cowering away, but Erick stood his ground.
“Ask him,” Erick muttered, motioning his head towards Elijah.
“Intruders,” Elijah shot back.
Graham cocked his eyes at Elijah.
“They refused to leave,” Elijah explained further.
“Is that so?” Graham asked, addressing Erick.
“He has something of mine that I would like back,” Erick told him.
He glanced over at Ronnie who was passed out on the ground, covered in her own b***d.
He needed to get her out of here quick.
Graham followed his gaze down to Ronnie and then shot Elijah another look.
“She was also an intruder,” Elijah explained.
“How did she get in here?” Graham asked him.
“Ask the guards,” Elijah told him.
A familiar scent filled Erick’s nose and he knew that Jonathan was nearby. He sighed out relieved as his wolf friend came into view and was charging towards them with his full speed.
As he got closer, Erick heard his growling out, “GRAHAM!!”
Graham turned in time to be knocked off his feet by Jonathan who instantly lunged at him. Before Jonathan continued with his attack he turned to Erick.
“Get her out of here!!”
Erick didn’t hesitate. He bent down to Ronnie and placed her on his back. He turned back to Jonathan as Graham swiped at him and knocked him off his feet. Erick winced as b***d splattered from Jonathan’s face. But that didn’t stop Jonathan, it only made him angrier.
Erick wished he could stay and help Jonathan fight; once Elijah was back on his feet, he knew it was going to be two against one. But with the state that Ronnie was in, he feared he wouldn’t have time and he couldn’t risk her life.
He quickly turned from the fight and bolted out of the town.
…
It only took him a couple of hours to get back into town. That was with him stopping a few times to check on her conditions; once he heard her faint breathing, he continued his way.
On his way back he had already linked Arina and Anderson to tell them of the fight and how Ronnie was hurt. He told them to meet him at Dr. Beverly’s office, to which he linked her as well to tell her he was on his way to her office.
All three of them were waiting when Erick arrived with Ronnie. He transformed back into his human self as soon as Ronnie was in the custody of Dr. Beverly and was being looked at. At first appearance, Erick heard Arina gasping as she stared around Ronnie’s bruised and bloodied body.
Dr. Beverly had them all wait in the waiting room while she worked on Ronnie, which drove Erick insane not being able to be with her.
“How’s Jonathan?” Arina asked.
Erick frowned. He wasn’t sure how much he should tell her; she was already worrying about Ronnie and stressed out; he didn’t want to worry and stress her out over Jonathan as well.
“He can handle his own,” Erick told her. “Once he finishes up his loose ends, he’ll be home.”
She relaxed slightly and nodded.
“Was Elijah going to kill her?” She asked; her voice cracking as tears filled her eyes.
“I don’t know,” Erick admitted. “He was toying with her when I got there. Beating her. Biting her. Scratching her.”
Arina grimaced at his words.
“She’s lucky you got there in time,” Arina said softly.
He wished he had gotten there earlier; he wished he could have prevented the damages that were done with her.
Before he could say anything else, Dr. Beverly opened her office door and a faint smile played on her lips.
“She’s awake and would like to speak with you Erick,” she told him.
Erick’s nervousness increased as his heart leaped in his chest. Parting from the others, he went to see Ronnie.
She looked tired and utterly defeated lying on the medical bed. Dr. Beverly had her bandaged and stitched. But nothing could hide the purple bruises she had along her jawline and down the sides of her body.
Ronnie lifted her head slightly as Erick approached her bed, he motioned for her to lie back down. A weak smile played on her lips.
“You came after me,” she spoke in a low whisper as though it pained her to speak.
He leaned down so their noses touched; her eyes closed, and he could feel the warmth of her breath on his features.
“I will always go after you,” he said as he closed the gap between their lips.
