Alpha's One Night Bride
Alpha’s One Night Bride – Chapter 52

“So, what’s your next move?” Piper asked, her voice filled with a silky seduction.

Her wavy blonde hair fell silkily around her shoulders and down her back like melted caramel. Her sapphire blue eyes peered up at him through her long and dark lashes. She wore a red dress that hugged her body perfectly, showing off the curves around her waistline and amplifying her large breasts.

Her fair skin glistened as she soaked under the night’s sky; the moon reflecting off her body and tickling her features.

Out of all his affairs, Piper was probably his favorite. Not only was she young and beautiful, but she was easy to talk to. Despite her constant need for s*x and that she f***s him with her eyes, she seems to genuinely care about what he says. She listens and provides feedback that proves to be useful to him.

He enjoyed spending time with her; the more time he spent with her, the more he found himself sharing more with her. She didn’t fear him as most do. The more force he uses against her, the more she seems to enjoy it. She likes the abuse he gives her, and it seems as though she craves more.

“Arina is getting weaker. This pregnancy seems to be taking a lot out of her at such an early stage. So, my plan right now is to keep her alive for as long as I can. Dr. Emily is going to be basically living with her until the baby is born,” Rock explained, keeping his voice low.

“Then what happens once the baby is born?” Piper asked.

“We take the baby. Arina will be given wolfsbane to drink and she will die. I already have some high bidders in a different region wanting this child,” Rock told her.

Her eyes widened with curiosity and a little flash of excitement. That’s what he loved about Piper; things like this didn’t scare her. Instead, they excited her.

“What makes this child so important?” Piper asked.

“Her bloodline,” Rock answered. “The same bloodline as Benjamin Davis.”

Piper gasped.

“The Benjamin Davis? The Overseer?”

“The one and only,” Rock confirmed.

“Piper my love, I already know the answer to this, but can you keep another secret?” Rock asked.

Her eyes lit up.

“Well duh, baby. Of course,” Piper giggled.

“Good. Because there’s a wolf in Sabrebite that’s been keeping a secret. A secret that took a lot for me to uncover. This wolf hasn’t even told her own son. So, he has no idea that he comes from the extended bloodline of Benjamin Davis,” Rock told her.

“I don’t understand,” Piper said softly. “Why keep that a secret? What would happen if it got out?”

Rock smiled.

“There’d be a lot of angry wolves,” Rock answered, his voice darkening.

(Jess)

Wolves were dying.

Jess couldn’t help but blame herself for the fact that wolves around her are starting to die at the hands of one another. There have also been threats of territory wars.

She couldn’t shake the feeling that something terrible was approaching. Jonathan has been keeping her updated and she doesn’t think that Elijah’s death ended the war that was brewing. She’s never trusted Graham. He’s always had a way of making himself look innocent when in fact, he was the worst of them all. She wouldn’t put it past him to kill Elijah, just to make himself look good.

Graham was the reason that Jess’s husband, Regan, was dead. It was something she never even told Jonathan about. But Graham and Regan were friends at one point, or at least Graham acted as though he was Regan’s friend. Graham just wanted Regan out of the way so he could take over Sabrebite; his next move after killing Regan was to kill Jonathan.

Jess bought Graham off by giving him something more valuable.

The Overseer cufflink.

A small silver cufflink was designed to have eyes throughout each pack. The cufflink gives the overseer sight, and they can use their wolf instincts to see and hear anything going on in any pack. It was developed for Benjamin’s son, the next in line as Overseer.

Created by Naomi, the Witch of Perception.

The cufflink was to go to the next male born of the Davis bloodline once he comes of age and takes the thrown of Overseer. But that day never came. Jess’s mother ended up with the cufflink, to which Jess still has no idea how she retrieved it. Once her mother died, Jess ended up with it.

Jess supposed the next to occupy the throne as Overseer would be Jonathan, but she also knew how dangerous the Overseer role was and she didn’t want to put that on her son. Her mother made her promise that she would never breathe a word about their bloodline to anybody.

Jess kept her word.

Until Graham threatened Jonathan’s life. He had already taken Jess’s mate; she couldn’t bare lose her son too. So, she gave him an offer that he couldn’t refuse. As soon as he got his eyes on the cufflink, Jess knew he would be asking questions and she was prepared to answer anything thrown at her. As long as it kept her son safe.

“That can’t possibly be real,” Graham said, eyeing the small box with the cufflink revealed on the inside.

“I assure you, it’s very real,” she told him, tears staining her face.

He touched the cufflink with his fingers, and he could already feel his senses growing more intense. He inhaled sharply and widened his eyes as he stared around her features.

“You’re a decedent of the Overseer?” He breathed.

“Please, Graham,” Jess begged. “If you say nothing about this to anybody, the cufflink is yours. I won’t tell anybody about Regan.”

Graham stood there, staring at her for a long while. Trying to figure out if she was serious. More tears fell from her eyes, and she refused to break eye contact.

“Jonathan doesn’t know…” Graham said.

It wasn’t a question, more of an observation.

Jess shook her head slowly.

“No, he doesn’t. I would like to keep it that way,” she explained. “That cufflink opens the doors to the Overseer manor on Whisper Grove valley. It’s vacant. But it can be yours if you just walk away without harming my son.”

After a brief hesitation, a smile played on his lips. It didn’t meet his eyes and it gave Jess an uneasy sense. But Graham snatched the box from her hands and turned away.

Before he could leave, he turned back slightly.

“Deal,” he said, before disappearing through the doorway.

That night haunts Jess to the core. She’s made some terrible decisions in her life and most of them have been to protect her family and oblige to her mother’s wishes. But that must have been the worst thing she’s ever done. She gave Graham a power that no one else could ever dream of having; she gave him the power of the Overseer.

He’s able to see everything and hear everything; there’s nothing that anyone can do that Graham isn’t aware of. That includes people in his pack. Graham told Jonathan that he had no idea Elijah was going to other territories and hunting on forbidden grounds. But Jess knew that was a lie.

It had to be a lie.

Graham had the sight.

But of course, she couldn’t tell Jonathan that. She couldn’t even begin to explain her wrongdoings. It killed her inside knowing that she was to blame for everything Graham is doing and how he was deceiving Jonathan in such a way that Jonathan is completely blinded by.

Jonathan isn’t even aware that Graham was the one who killed his father. To keep her word to Graham, she breathed none of that anybody. She told Jonathan that Regan died due to a dangerous venison snake. One bite of this snake can kill a whole wolf in its tracks.

His first order of business as Alpha was to rid the forest of these snakes so no others in the pack will meet the same fate as his father. She never had the heart to tell him how his father truly died. If she told him now, he would go after Graham, and she knew Graham was too powerful for Jonathan to take on.

She couldn’t even believe Ronnie, Arina’s half-sister, was stupid enough to go to Blackcrest alone and confront Graham. She was a naive young girl and thought that merely talking to Graham would save the nation. Jess understood that she only did that to prove her worth and to prove that she was on their side.

What Jess had said to her during their last meeting was out of fear and anger, but she never meant to hurt this young girl. She had no idea where that outburst had come from, but it was clear that she hurt a lot of people by saying those cruel words. She never even had the chance to apologize just yet.

Jess sat at her kitchen table holding onto the photo of Regan; tears were filling her eyes as she stared into her late husband’s eyes. She rubbed her thumb across the frame and down the features of his face.

“I miss you so much,” she whispered as she sobbed silently to herself.
