Alpha's One Night Bride -
Alpha’s One Night Bride – Chapter 59
I had never seen somebody so beautiful in my entire life. Her body was the shade of milk chocolate; her figure thin and wrapped in a dark beaded gown that went down around her feet. Her hair was thick, dark, and braided down her back, landing around her waistline. She had a face of a goddess; eyes of a deep emerald with speckles of gold, which brought out the warm coloring of her skin.
“Naomi…” I breathed. “She’s real.”
The countdown began as the red haze made its way across the moon. Jess stood outside her white chalk circle. In the center of her circle was the sage, the pink rose, and a chunk of Jonathan’s fur. I watched as she took a match and lit the center of the circle, igniting it into a large flame. Taking the book in her hands, she spoke the summoning spell in Latin; I couldn’t understand what she was saying but as soon as she began speaking, the light orange and yellow flames began turning pink and then purple.
Ronnie and I stood back as Jess continued speaking, the flames growing bigger. At the same time as that was going on, I noticed how all the wolves were glowing a hazy red from the red moon, including Ronnie. I was the only one untouched.
Each wolf began their howling, making the redness grow more intense. Ronnie looked tired as her energy began draining; at the same time, Erick looked stronger in his wolf’s build as Ronnie’s energy swirled around him, strengthening, and igniting him.
As wolves began making their way into the wolves to start their hunting, Erick stayed behind with Ronnie. I turned back to Jess to see the progress of her summoning. She was also glowing a hazy, and she looked drained herself.
I hoped this wouldn’t mess with the summoning.
A white glow began appearing within the pink and purple flames; my mouth dropped open in awe as the glow grew more intense. Squinting my eyes to see better, I realized there was a figure walking through the light way. The figure appeared to be far but was coming closer with each passing moment.
Then there she was standing most gloriously and breathtakingly.
Naomi.
The flames behind her began to demolish and Jess fell to the ground in front of her; weakened and exhausted.
Gazing around her surroundings, her eyes found Jess. She couldn’t have been older than 20; she appeared so young and flawless.
She knelt to Jess; a small smile placed on her lips as she touched Jess’s shoulder blade. I watched life filling Jess’s features and strengthening her. She breathed in relief as the satisfaction caught up to her.
“You did well,” she said to Jess, her voice silky and sending warmth through my body.
I glanced over at Ronnie and Erick to make sure they were seeing what I was seeing; they looked just as amazed.
She helped Jess to her feet; I could tell Jess was scrambling to find her words. She was starstruck by the Witch of Perception.
Rightfully so.
“I know why you summoned for me,” Naomi said breathily.
Of course she did; she knew everything. She had the sight. As soon as she stepped foot on our land, I’m sure she knew what was going on.
“You did the right thing,” she spoke a bit louder now so that Ronnie, Erick, and I could hear her.
She gazed around Jess and her eyes landed on me; her smile widened as she took a step closer towards us.
“You are the luna of the Overseer,” she said to me; it wasn’t a question.
I nodded; I wasn’t sure how to address her or how to speak to her.
“An expecting mother,” she observed again. “You are so young and are already facing complications with your birth.”
It was incredible how quickly she could see everything.
I nodded again.
She stepped around the others until she was face to face with me. I could feel the warmth and love radiating off her body. It was almost overwhelming; she smelled like a bouquet and the pink outline of her aura nearly melted my heart as I came into contact with her.
“Breathe in,” she instructed me; she kept her voice soft like velvet.
I did as she said immediately as she placed her long, delicate fingers on my stomach. I felt the heat from her hands on my stomach right away. The heat from her fingertips kept rising the brighter her pink aura grew.
As hot as her fingers had begun, it didn’t hurt. I could feel her heat soothing away the pain the troubles of the pregnancy. The swelling on the side of my body began going down and I felt as though energy was being filled into me.
This time I breathed in automatically and let out a sigh of sweet relief as the pain melted away.
She smiled and took a step back.
“The rest of your pregnancy shouldn’t be too bad. But be aware that there are people who want your child. You will need to protect her at all costs,” Naomi warned.
I couldn’t get my “thanks” out quick enough. I was scrambling for the right words to say. I was beyond grateful for what she had just done for me. She made the pain for the pregnancy disappear and all the negative symptoms I was facing were also gone.
Somehow, I knew that I didn’t have to say anything though; she knew.
Smiling, she turned her attention back to Jess who was still staring at her in wonder.
“Graham must be stopped,” Naomi said; the silkiness was beginning to melt away, leaving a hardened exterior as it was time to get down to business.
“He is approaching quickly. For me to diminish the cufflink, I need to come into contact with it,” she explained.
Jess nodded as she stared off into the woodland forest.
“The problem is, we don’t know where he is,” Jess told her, finding her voice once again.
“I do,” Naomi told her. “But we are going to be interrupted and blocked from him.”
Jess turned to Naomi; confusion clear on her face.
“First things first,” Naomi began, turning to me. “We need to get Arina to safety, and quickly.”
Erick and Ronnie were by my side instantly; I was grateful for them being there. Naomi smiled at them. Though ultimately, she looked worried.
I followed Erick and Ronnie through the streets of Sabrebite; turning back slightly to see Naomi and Jess taking off in the direction Jonathan was in.
I could almost feel in my bones that something bad was going to happen. My inner wolf was telling me to keep pushing forward and get home as soon as I possibly could but then there was a part of me that wanted to make sure Jonathan was alright.
I heard far distant howling deep within the woodland forest and it didn’t’ sound like any wolves I recognized. It sounded like there was a commotion and other wolves were charging into the wolves to assess the issue.
Pausing, I stared off in the distance, trying to figure out what was going on.
Was it the war?
Has it begun?
Was Graham here?
Was Jonathan okay?
I could feel myself beginning to panic. Ronnie was by my side instantly and Erick stood on the other side of me. Erick was also staring in the same direction I was staring; I could tell he also wanted to run into the woods and see what was going on. He hated being on the sidelines; especially considering he was a huge wolf, and he was the strongest.
I’m sure he was also worried about Onyxfang, but he said he had the strongest security in his pack guarding his town and would reach him if there was a breach.
“Arina?” Ronnie said, assessing my face from beside me.
She was more worried about me than anything, which I appreciated her for. I tried to give her a reassuring smile.
“I’m okay,” I assured her. “I’m just worried about Jonathan and everyone.”
Thinking about how Graham killed Anderson, I couldn’t imagine the same thing happening to Jonathan. My heart hurt just thinking about it.
Erick almost looked as though he had zoned out, but it only lasted a moment because then he turned back to face us. Panic was clear on his face.
“We need to go,” he practically yelled; frightening us.
“What’s going on?” I tried to ask as he grabbed onto my wrist with one hand and Ronnie’s writs with the other.
“We need to go now!!” This time he did yell as we trotted across the town.
I could hear screaming coming from the woods.
Then the gunshots.
Actual gunshots.
I felt my heart falling into my stomach as the number of gunshots began increasing; I could hear the growling and the anger from wolves all around us.
What the hell was going on?
As we kept running, I saw our house in the distance. I was almost relieved to see it, but I couldn’t help but think about the commotion back in town and the gunshots coming from the woods. It was much quieter once we got far enough away, but Erick seemed to still be in panic mode.
He knew something and he wasn’t telling us what it was.
He didn’t have to tell us what it was; we were to soon find out.
First, it was the ringing in my ears that sent me to the ground; and then it was the explosion. A dusting of black cloudlike smoke surrounded me. Blocking my vision and making its way into my airwaves; I could no longer breathe. My senses were compromised as the pain shot through my body.
“Arina!!!” Was the last thing I heard before blacking out.
