Alpha's One Night Bride
Alpha’s One Night Bride – Chapter 65

“What are you trying to say to me right now?” I asked, eyeing Jess with suspicion clear in my face.

She was standing in the living room of Jonathan and my home. Jonathan was finally home, and he was resting in the bed. He was grazed by a bullet and beaten severely during the war with Graham. Thankfully, he didn’t die. Jess was there and shot Graham before Graham had a chance to shoot Jonathan.

Meanwhile, Ronnie, Erick, and I got caught up in an explosion of our own where we almost died. Me more than them. But I was able to speak with my mother who revealed she was the moon goddess and has been looking down at me this entire time. She also warned me about Rock and his intentions to sell my unborn daughter to third-world countries. Which, to me, sounds disgusting and sick and beneath him.

But, knowing him my entire life, I knew what he was capable of. I knew how he treated my mother and how he treated me. I should be surprised by what my mother had to say about him, but I wasn’t. I just felt ill and worried that he was going to accomplish this sick goal of his. Especially if Jonathan doesn’t recover before the baby arrives.

I needed to somehow deliver this baby safely and be sure of her safety, all while still obliging to Rock’s demands because I needed that box. The box that held all my mother’s stuff. It was clear that there were more secrets than I could ever imagine; my mother revealed that not everything is what it seems at first glance. She warned me against Silverside and told me that she didn’t want me going there anymore.

Back when I was in Silverside, I learned about my mother’s affair with Boris Conway. It appeared that my mother and Boris fell in love, but because of some obvious circumstances, such as both were to marry others, they could never truly be together. However, once I was born, my mother realized she didn’t want to be with Rock anymore and left him to be with Boris. She ended up on Boris’s doorstep with me and asked to be with him.

Because they were both already married; my mother being married to Rock and Boris being married to Nikini. But that apparently didn’t stop my mother from wanting to leave me with Boris and Nikini, thinking they could provide me with a better life than her and Rock. So, she wrote me a letter explaining to me how she couldn’t care for me anymore and that she was so sorry for not being here when I needed her. It was meant to be given to me at a later age but for some reason, she ended up changing her mind.

She left Silverside and returned me home to Ironclaw. She left the letter there and yet somehow Rock got his hands on the letter. The last time I was in Silverside, Boris had told me that he would investigate further into that and figure out how Rock got the letter. I trusted Boris because he was the country’s greatest detective and the head detective. Not to mention it happened under his roof, so I didn’t think an investigation was going to be too long.

However, it’s been months since my short time in Silverside and I hadn’t heard anything from Boris. I was curious as to why I haven’t heard anything until Jess just informed me of something entirely new. Something I wasn’t expecting to hear from her; I thought we were done with the secrets and the lies. But apparently, that, in itself, was a lie.

“It was something I hadn’t thought about it in a long time,” Jess said softly; tears flooding down her cheeks. “I’m so sorry…” she whispered.

“So, start from the beginning,” I demanded; I could feel the anger level increasing as I paced back and forth across the living room.

I was trying to keep my voice low because I didn’t want to wake Jonathan. He had just gotten home a few hours ago and he seemed utterly miserable. Erick and Ronnie had left a little while ago because there was nothing more they could do at that moment. Erick wanted to get back to Onyxfang and be with his pack and assess the damages done.

I felt awful he couldn’t be there with them and protect them but none of us predicted that they would target Onyxfang first. Plus, Erick had extremely strong guards, stronger than Erick, that was more than capable of fighting off Graham and his goons. However, we didn’t know Graham was going to be carrying firearms and explosives.

“I was only 13 years old when I met Nikini. She seemed like such a nice girl at first. But my mother quickly warned me against her. Told me she came from a bloodline that wanted to cause us harm. We took off from the town and as we left, we could hear the guards from her pack chasing after us. She had called the guards on us; just as my mother had told me. She wasn’t a good wolf and it scared me to think I was almost her friend,” Jess grimaced.

“Okay, but you are missing the part as to how she knew about the Davis bloodline and why she would give my father that letter,” I nearly snapped.

I was sick of these riddles, and I just wanted to know the truth.

“Later in life, I found out that Nikini was part of the Davis bloodline. I don’t know if she knew it at the time though. But when she was around 1 or 2 years old, she was adopted by the Campbell family. A stuck-up rich family in Wildtooth Shadows. Nikini was put up for adoption at birth because girls born in the Davis family, after a certain number of generations, were shunned and disowned. But her birth name was Nikini Davis.”

“She’s a Davis…?” I breathed, staring at Jess intently.

Jess nodded slowly.

“So, she’s related to Jonathan?” I asked for clarity.

Jess nodded again.

“We can smell the scent of a Davis bloodline. When you went to Silverside, she could probably smell the scent of Jonathan. At the time, I didn’t think she knew about the Davis bloodline. I didn’t think her mother or father would be the type to explain anything of that to her. So, I wasn’t too worried when you went. But when you told me that Rock somehow received a letter that your mother wrote and then all this other stuff. I knew it had to be the work of Nikini. She’s the only one I can think of who would inform Rock of anything.”

“Why would she be working with Rock?” I asked.

Jess shrugged.

“I’m not entirely sure,” Jess admitted.

“How could you not say anything to me? To Jonathan?” I nearly hissed.

I could feel the tears burning in my eyes as my anger increased.

“I wanted to. I really did,” Jess tried to explain.

“But you didn’t! This puts our daughter in danger,” I told her. “Rock has connections everywhere. I trusted Boris and to think he could have turned on me at any moment.”

I was furious and I felt betrayed.

“We don’t know if Boris even knows about any of this,” Jess said.

She was right, we didn’t know if Boris was involved. However, he was supposed to be the greatest detective, and the fact that all this lying and planning happening under his roof had gone completely missed by him, didn’t make sense to me. Then there was the fact that Boris told me he was going to investigate more into it and never got back to me.

I assume that he found out it was Nikini, found out everything, and then kept it from me because he wanted to protect his precious wife. He was a corrupted detective and I felt sick to my stomach for trusting him.

I could feel the baby moving uncomfortably within me as I continued pacing back and forth. I was trying to calm myself down because I didn’t want to upset the baby or my body. It wouldn’t be long now before the baby was due and I was already nervous as it was.

Naomi had made it so the damages and the pain subsided, which I was beyond grateful for. So, now I’m just hoping for smooth sailing childbirth.

“I’m sorry for keeping this from you, Arina,” Jess said slowly. “I never meant for any of this to happen. I thought I was protecting you; I thought I was protecting all of you. When I learned all this out, I was really young. I didn’t want anyone else to be burdened by this knowledge because it’s a lot of information. I never imagined it would come back to haunt us like this.”

Jess was right; it was a lot of information and she already owned up to not telling us about Jonathan being a Davis. She felt awful about it and I understood she was only doing that to protect him. Now she was telling me that Nikini was also a Davis and is quite possibly plotting against me with Rock. It’s not like Jess could have ever predicted any of this.

She truly didn’t know.

After a few deep breaths, I finally began feeling my body relax.

“Okay…” I said softly. “It’s okay,” I told her.

Her face looked relieved. But it only lasted a moment because then it twisted into utter worry as my face turned into a pained expression.

A shot of pain went through my entire body, and I nearly buckled over. It felt like an electric shock that coursed through my stomach. A clear liquid fell from under my legs on the ground.

Jess and I both stared at it in horror because we both realized what had just happened.

My water broke.
