Alpha's One Night Bride -
Alpha’s One Night Bride – Chapter 74
Jonathan needed to get Arina out of there. He wasn’t sure what was going on, but it was satisfying to see both Melissa and Rock getting taken into custody by Boris. However, there was still a part of him that didn’t trust Nikini and Boris. He wasn’t sure what the others were thinking, but something didn’t sit right with him.
Arina had mentioned that her mother, during a coma dream, warned her against Silverside. Warning her against Nikini and Boris, so it wouldn’t make sense for them to all of a sudden be on our side.
Glancing over at Arina, she was looking apprehensive.
If Nikini and Boris were up to something, they were hiding it well because he couldn’t see into it even with the Overseer cufflink.
Ronnie was sobbing and Arina was trying to comfort her.
“Do you believe what she says?” He asked Jess who was still staring off in the distance of where Boris and Nikini went.
She frowned and glanced up at him.
“Nikini?” She asked.
He nodded.
“I want to,” she admitted. “I believe what she says in a sense. That she didn’t send the guards after us herself. That she truly didn’t know about being part of the Davis bloodline. But everything else… I don’t know.”
“Do you think they are really taking them to prison?” Jonathan asked.
He could see into it and see if they actually do end up going to the Grey Howler Prison of Silverside, but he wanted to know what Jess thought of the situation.
“I hope so,” she answered.
Looking over the girls, they were both hugging with tears lingering in their eyes. Jess and Jonathan made their way over to them and joined in on the hug.
“Ronnie…” Jess breathed to her. “What you said to Melissa was incredible.”
Ronnie wiped her tears away with the back of her hand and sniffled; she forced a smile at Jess, but it looked more nervous than anything.
“I’m so sorry for judging you so harshly and misjudging you all together,” Jess said softly.
Ronnie wrapped her arms around Jess and pulled her in for a hug.
“Thank you,” Ronnie whispered in return.
“We need to get out of here and get back to Erick,” Jonathan informed the group.
Even though both Rock and Melissa were in custody, that didn’t mean they were safe. In fact, they were far from safe. This wasn’t the end of the war; other wars were brewing all over the county. Wars that Graham had started in an ill attempt at recreating the territory war.
Now other packs wanted in on the war and were making their way across the county to take over what they can. Jonathan could see the fights happening in real-time and some territories have been destroyed already.
If they kept it up, there wouldn’t be any territories left to take over.
Jessica had come back to warn us about how the war struck Moon-Valley. Though when Jonathan checked in with Greggory, it didn’t seem as though he was too concerned with the war as much as he was concerned with his night of passion with his wife.
As they returned to Onyxfang, Jessica was pacing back and forth. She looked nervous and she looked as though she has been crying for hours. Her face was reddened, and her eyes were bloodshot.
Her eyes widened as she saw them approaching and Erick jumped to his feet in surprise. Instantly, Ronnie ran over to Erick, and she was kissing him; tears springing from both of their eyes.
“I’m so sorry we left you,” Jonathan heard Ronnie whispering to him.
“I was so worried,” he said back, holding her even tighter.
“I know…” she responded.
“It was my idea…” Arina said stepping next to Ronnie.
“Of course it was,” Erick said, eyeing her.
It was obvious he was upset, but he wasn’t going to say anything with Jonathan standing right there. He wouldn’t dare talk ill to his best friends luna.
“I’m sorry,” she said to him softly.
“I’m just glad you’re okay,” he told her, giving her a small smile.
He turned back to Ronnie and kissed her again. Looking around the broken-down building, he noticed the small fire in the center of the room that Erick had built. The warmth of the fire was soothing on Jonathan’s cold skin. He didn’t realize he was cold until that moment.
The room they were in looked to be an old bakery; soot and mildew were covering the floors and the walls, so the natural tiling and wallpaper were unreadable. There were cases behind, and around, the main counter, where there would typically be bakery items. There were some tables on the far left of the building and a couple of booths closer to where Jonathan stood.
He also noticed it was a bit quiet. There were no signs of a baby crying. He wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing.
“Where’s Emee?” Jonathan asked.
Erick pulled apart from Ronnie long enough to point over in the far booth and then went back to kissing Ronnie.
Emee was sound asleep in the booth; Arina was already making her way over to her and cuddling Emee while she slept. Relief flooded through Jonathan as he saw his daughter safe and unhurt. He knew at that moment, that everything he was doing was worth it.
“I need to go home to Moon-Valley,” Jessica announced; tears pouring from her eyes. “I haven’t been able to get a hold of Greggory. Something’s wrong.”
Yeah… something was wrong alright. Jonathan wanted to tell Jessica what he saw when he tuned into Greggory earlier, but he didn’t have the heart to break her heart. She would find out soon enough.
So, he nodded in agreement.
“Yeah, it’s probably a good idea if you head home. Just be careful,” Jonathan warned her.
She nodded. Arina stood to her feet; she looked worried. The two hugged tightly.
“Please be careful; I have a feeling this isn’t the end of all things bad,” Arina told her softly.
Jessica nodded as they pulled apart. She said her goodbyes to Erick, Ronnie, and Jess, then she disappeared through the bakery doors.
“We should get home too,” Jonathan told Arina. She nodded in agreement as well as she picked up Emee and cradled her against her chest. “I want to make sure you’re at least safe before I go…”
She shot him a look.
“Go? Go where?” She asked, curiosity and fear lingering in her eyes and voice.
Jonathan hated that he had to spring this on her so suddenly, but she knew that he was going to be the Overseer and needed to take on the responsibilities as such.
“Wars are going on all around the county. I need to go end those wars. It’s what Benjamin would have wanted,” Jonathan told her.
Jess gasped in shock.
“You’re going to take on the full role of Overseer?” Jess asked, stepping up next to him.
Jonathan nodded.
“I have to. I have to put an end to the war. If I don’t, I worry that it’ll destroy all territories. I can’t allow that to happen,” Jonathan told them.
Arina’s eyes were large with worry.
“Jonathan… you can’t just leave again…” she whispered; her voice was a small squeak.
He wrapped her in his arms and kissed the top of her head.
“I need to protect you and Emee. I need to protect everyone. It’s part of my duty as the Overseer. I can’t ignore this anymore. I need to put an end to this war, once and for all. Plus, with Rock and Melissa in custody, you are safe for right now,” Jonathan assured her.
She blinked away her tears.
“I don’t want to lose you,” she said slowly. “I can’t lose you.”
“You will never lose me, Arina. I promise you that I will return to you. But I need to do this for all packs. I need to put an end to this whole thing. I need to fix Graham’s wrongdoings,” Jonathan explained.
Arina sniffled as she wiped the tears off her face; she nodded. She knew what he was saying was right. There couldn’t be a territory war; now that Jonathan was the Overseer, it was up to him to put an end to any wars and keep all wolves safe. She knew him better than anybody and knew that he wasn’t going to change his mind.
“Do you have to go now?” She asked.
He shook his head slowly.
“No, I want to get you and Emee home first. I’ll leave in the morning,” he said.
“I’ll go to,” Erick said, surprising everybody.
“What?” Ronnie said from beside him.
She looked anything but pleased. The last time a friend went to go help Jonathan, he didn’t come back alive; none of them wanted that for Erick.
“I want to do my part and help. I’m sick of sitting on the sidelines and playing babysitter. I want to protect Ronnie just as much as you want to protect Arina and Emee. Melissa and Rock are gone now; there’s no immediate danger to them. I want to help fight in this war.”
“Erick…” Ronnie said in a broken whisper.
He glanced down at her.
“I’m sorry to just spring this on you. I just want to help,” he told her softly.
Jonathan knew better than to argue with Erick; plus, he was right. There was no immediate danger in Sabrebite right now besides this war, so there was no reason for Erick not to go. Jonathan also figured he could use the extra help because he wasn’t sure how this was going to go down.
“You can’t just go…” Ronnie told him between tears.
“Actually, I think it’s a great idea. I could use the help. Thanks, man,” Jonathan told him, shooting him a smile.
Erick returned the smile with a head nod.
“So, it’s settled?” Erick asked, as though he was now asking for permission.
“It’s settled,” Jonathan confirmed to his friend.
No…” Ronnie cried. “Erick, you can’t…”
He started murmuring something to her that neither Jonathan nor Arina could hear. Jonathan turned back to Arina.
“We really should get going,” he told her.
She nodded and went to grab Emee.
“We are going to stay here for a bit longer and clean some stuff up. I also think we need to talk a bit more. We will catch up with you guys later,” Erick said, eyeing Ronnie.
Jonathan waved from over his shoulder as they left.
