Chapter 30

HARVEY

I watch as Theo leaves with Hayley.

I close the door behind me and look back at the woman who now is sitting on the kitchen counter looking at the photo of the baby.

"You knew, didn't you?" she asks me.

I don't say anything but walk into the kitchen to grab two beers. I pull the tops off of them and move around to stand on the other side of the kitchen counter. "Judging by your silence, I have my answer," she says and looks up at me.

I don't smile at her; she has been a cruel mother to Hayley. We all witnessed it and she thought we never noticed.

She looks at me. "Why didn't..." she says but I can't help the growl that slips out of my mouth. "Don't pretend to be a mother to her now and show you care," I say to her, she looks taken back. "You think we didn't notice how you treated Hayley, Mum we heard everything Carly was saying as she was spreading them rumors around school. I never believed any of them, neither did Harrison, as for the no training. Hayley was trained by us and dad when you were at your precious clubs at the pack house. You never knew what was going on with Hayley because you never bothered trying," I said.

She doesn't say anything. She grabs the second beer bottle that I placed down in front of us and takes a swig. I look at my bottle and start to play with the label. "You know I was there when she delivered Luke," I said and looked up at her, her eyes were on me. "Hayley took it hard, she couldn't remember what happened to her, she was knocked out by Carly so bad that she blacked out when she came around she had to deliver him."

"I had to watch my little sister cry, her heart breaking because a she-wolf didn't want her to be with a guy that is her mate," I say with a growl.

My mother looks down. "Harv, I never thought..." she says and stops. She looks at me. "Your father knew, didn't he?" she says in a whisper.

I nod. "Yeah, he had a phone call saying that Hayley was injured, and he needed to be there for consent, but he rang me as he had to catch a flight," I said to her.

She huffs out "He should have told me what was going on, she's my daughter," she says.

"What would you have done? You both argued, and you never liked Theo. We all knew that. We listened all the time while you were telling our father how he was a bad influence on her and he shouldn't show her any attention, as she was weak," I said through gritted teeth. "Why did you treat her like that?"

"You heard us," she said, sounding surprised.

I look at her. She can't be seriously thinking that they were arguing quietly. I move closer to her so she can feel my anger towards her. "Yeah, we did, even Hayley who, by the way, would cry herself to sleep," I said.

I moved back and I went into my back pocket, pulled out the letter that my father gave me to give to her. I slide it across the table. "Here! This is for you. I was told to give you this," I said. "Dad wrote a letter to you and gave it to his lawyer, who is a friend of my bosses. He gave it to me. The instruction I had was to hand it to you."

I leave the letter and move away from the table and slowly walk towards the door but I stop, my mother looking at the letter with my father's writing on it. A tear slides down her face but she looks up at me. but she doesn't say anything. “I'm staying at my mate's house tonight and Mum," I say and she just looks at me. "Leave Hayley alone. You both need space. Maybe give her a few days to calm down and she needs to be with her mate."

I turn and walk out, leaving my mum with her letter. Hopefully something in the letter will give away something to her, especially for the way she was treating Hayley.

RUTH

I look at the envelope that Harvey gave me, my mate's handwriting on the front.

Goddess, how I have missed seeing the little notes he wrote to me.

All three of my children hate me.

I took another swig of the beer and gulped it down.

After I place it down on the counter, I opened the envelope and pulled the letter up, opening it up and read:

If you are reading this, then I'm no longer with you. I know you will find this tough to be without me, but I really need you to be strong.

I love you with all my heart.

But honey you have to be strong for our children, our three amazing children. Harrison has never been the same since he came back from the mission he was on; he lost his best friend that day. Harvey is set and also waiting for the right timing to get his mate. She is a hell of a beauty. But my darling, you need to put all the grievances aside. Our little girl who you thought was a brat and wasn't doing right in your eyes well. She is not doing so well at this moment in time.

You see, she lost a precious gift, her child. I know she made me promised no to tell you, so I thought I would write it to you. I may even tell you when Hayley is ready to talk about it, but our baby girl is suffering and it is breaking my heart watching her.

The baby is Theo's; Luke is the baby's name. She named him after his dad; Luke would have been so proud of him and of our little girl.

The last time we spoke, you argued that Hayley needed to stay away from Theo. That was the last time we ever mentioned Hayley in the house as she left after that argument. I believe that Hayley and Theo are destined true mates. I looked it up in the library and it can happen. Their wolves had an instant connection with each other; it was like they were meant to be.

Do you know how rare that is?

Hunny, I want you to stop believing in all the bull crap that hideous girl is spreading around about our little girl. I'm sure I could smell her scent at the hospital the other day, but it was faint. Everyone can believe what they want to, but you should believe Hayley. Our little girl is going to need you.

I am about to run out of room on this letter, but I want to tell you that I love you more than anything and I will be watching over you all. Hopefully, when you receive this, our little girl will be in our arms, but I need to tell you all this as I know you will need a reminder of how precious life is.

I miss my mate.

I'm such a horrible mother to my daughter; I didn't mean to believe other people. I was just caught up in all the high life of being in the pack house as everyone needed my help after the old alpha and Luna passed away. Also the Beta families were killed too. I made sure I was the eyes and ears around the place, but everything I heard about Hayley made me want to string her up and hide her away so she could be safe.

I didn't realize that I was the one pushing her away.

"You know I was right," says a voice from the side of me. Jackie pulls a chair by the side of me.

I sigh as more tears flow down my face. "Yeah, I know," I said, looking at my sister Jackie. "How much of that did you hear?"

She looks at me. "I heard everything," she says. She takes the letter out of my hand and reads it.

After she reads it, she smiles. "Pat always had a way with words, didn't he?" she says.

Jackie looks at me and places her hand on my cheek. "You were hard on that girl because you believed everyone else and not her. You know what that was like," she said.

"Yeah, I do," I said, remembering back in the day, a woman named Olivia had it in for me for dating the bad boy, but he wasn't my mate. I left him to be with my mate. Olivia was happy, but he wasn't.

Jackie looks at me. "You need to give her time, but I think you should talk to her and I mean talk to her," she says and looks at the photo of the baby, my grandson.

She smiles. "What I would give to have my mate and son back," she says and looks at me. "I know everyone in this pack talks about me being crazy but I don't care. It gives a sense of freedom and to be honest, everyone here is so up their own arses."

I can't help but laugh and Jackie pulls me into her for a hug. She held me.

I need to sort out with my daughter and sons, but mainly Hayley.
