Arranged To The Beast Alpha
Burn of remembrance

LEAH

I stepped out of the guest room, my heart thudding. This was it; the moment I had been secretly dreading and hoping would somehow never actually arrive, despite its importance.

But here it was, and I was supposed to go along like everything was perfect. My father was waiting there in the hall, his face stretched into a smile that might've looked genuine if I hadn't just heard his threats moments before. The fact that he could switch so easily, so seamlessly, made my stomach turn.

But then I saw her-Sarah. My sweet, loyal sister. The sight of her immediately calmed me, her presence a reminder that I wasn't totally alone, that I was doing this for a very good reason, and that it would all be worth it in the end when I finally got out of this marriage and ran off with her. I sigh.

Instead of walking over to my father, I moved straight to her side, and without even asking, I looped my arm through hers.

"You're walking me down the aisle, sis," I told her. She blinked in surprise before her hands moved, signing, *Really, I would love to, sis.*

Her smile was so bright, so genuine. I hadn't expected her to be this happy, knowing I was getting married under terms I hadn't exactly chosen.

Maybe she was just happy to be here with me, or maybe she was relieved that our father couldn't hurt me with her by my side. Either way, it was enough to lift my spirits.

"Oh, this is too beautiful!" Cleo's voice cut in as she hurried over, her phone already out. "I have to get a picture."

I rolled my eyes a little but smiled, glancing over at Sarah. Cleo snapped a few shots, then leaned in, beaming at us. "Okay, I have to go make sure they're all ready to receive you," she said, tucking her phone away and hurrying off. I watched her disappear down the hall, wondering how she always managed to stay so upbeat and so confident in everything she did.

A moment later, Kai stepped forward, with three guards in tow. "Ready, Leah?" he asked, his voice calm.

I nodded, barely trusting myself to speak. Kai motioned for two of the guards to fall in behind me, and he took the lead, guiding us down the long corridor toward the hall where everyone was waiting. The doors were closed, and I could see more guards stationed outside, standing like statues. The sight of them made my stomach churn. All this security, all these people watching... it felt like I was being delivered instead of celebrated.

I looked down at Sarah, and for the first time, I noticed how tense she looked, her small hands trembling as she clutched my arm. I tightened my grip on her, leaning close. "It's okay," I whispered. I wanted to make her feel safe, even if I didn't feel that way myself.

She looked up at me, her lips curving into a shy smile, trying to show me she was fine, even though I could see the unease in her eyes.

Just then, the doors swung open, and soft music began to play, a delicate melody that washed over the crowd. The kind of music that was meant to sound hopeful and romantic, though, to me, it felt like a blanket thrown over a cage. Still, I forced a smile, lifting my chin as I took those first steps forward, arm in arm with Sarah.

Inside, the hall was stunning. Cleo had outdone herself; everything was decorated in shades of blue and black, my favorite color woven through every detail. The lights were dim, casting a soft, intimate glow over the space, and for a moment, I let myself get swept up in the beauty of it. There were so many faces-faces I didn't recognize, all watching me, whispering to each other as we walked past. I kept my eyes forward, focusing on the one person.

And there he was. Damien, standing at the altar, looking as if he'd stepped straight out of a dream. The dark blue tuxedo he wore fit him perfectly, every detail seeming to have been crafted just for him. My heart skipped at the sight of him, and I had to bite my lip to keep from smiling too wide. He looked so handsome, so... composed. His gaze was steady, and when our eyes met, something in his expression softened, just for a second.

I felt the blush creeping up my cheeks, and I had to look away before I lost whatever bit of confidence I was holding onto. The closer we got, the more real it all felt. I glanced around the room, taking in every flickering candle, every perfectly arranged flower. This was my wedding day, even if it didn't feel like I'd imagined it would.

Finally, we reached the altar. Sarah gave my hand one last squeeze before she stepped back, joining my father and disappearing into the crowd. I was left standing in front of Damien, close enough that I could feel the warmth of him and hear the low hum of his breath.

In front of us stood a middle-aged man, dressed in a red formal robe that marked him as one of the elders. He looked at me with a kind of detached solemnity, as if he'd done this a thousand times before. He cleared his throat, a small smile breaking the serious lines of his face.

And just like that, the world quieted around us. It was time to make our vows and become one, husband and wife. Alpha and Luna.

Damien and I joined our hands together and repeated the vows the elder laid out for us. And then he brought the vial of silver dust, I gulped the one part I knew would always remind me of this day. The burn of remembrance.

The elder handed the vial to me, I poured the powder on my arms and winced as it burned me. Damien immediately put his hand on mine and we shared the burn. The crowd erupted in a cheer, while my heart raced as I stared directly into his eyes.

Bound, we are. Forever? Only the Goddess knew.

"You may now kiss your bride." The priest said and Damien leaned in and kissed me, only so briefly it surprised me.

"Alpha Damien Regan and his newly wedded wife, Luna Leah Regan."
