Arranged To The Beast Alpha -
Kill
DAMIEN
I dropped the box of pizza on the dinner table, it took every form of skill I had to get Leah back into this house without the humans going off track.
"Eat," I instructed barely holding back the annoying nesting in me being, but she only looked at the box and back at me, releasing a satisfied sigh, a mockery of my efforts.
"Athena offered us hot cocoa and cookies. I am full from that." She replied, her eyes dim with the delight she experienced back at the human's house.
"Yes, but Athena could have also drugged you and called the police to have you captured if she by the slightest knew you were a werewolf."
Leah scoffed, her brows creasing deeply, she pouted, her lips muttering under her breath. "I am not even a Werewolf."
"You are!" I growled, forcing her gaze to meet mine; she rolled her eyes and reluctantly took a slice of the pizza. "There." She rudely slapped the piece on her plate before shoving it into her mouth. My phone buzzed in my pocket, and I took it out, staring at the message that popped up on my screen. The name tag, the content, made my jaws clenched and my fist tighten.
"Eat up and go to bed," I said sharply, not bothering to look back. Her irritating voice, always full of questions and defiance, was the last thing I wanted to hear right now.
I strode down the hallway, each step echoing louder in my head than it probably should have. I had to be more careful with this lady than I intended, running into a group of humans so recklessly. Why couldn't she just listen for once? Why did she always have to push to test the boundaries I was barely holding together? Thank the Goddess I got there in time before she could blow it all up.
I pushed the door open, and walked in, sliding to the desk seat. I took out my phone and read through the message Kai sent.
*We found something.*
I sighed and dashed into my call log, placing a call across from him. He picked up on the first ring.
"What do you have for me?" I asked, my feet restlessly tapping against the carpet, the flat sound a mild distraction to my present situation.
"Urh... Yes, Damien. On Tamarind Street, there's an underdogs base there; the soy said it seems to be the headquarters where they all meet and discuss their operations. We found the photo of a guy you should keep a lookout for. It turns out Leah's assassins were not just three but four in number. Cliton found it in the CCTV just by the end of the depot street; the culprit's face was captured after he was seen fleeing their hideout."
I took the phone off my ear as Kai kept talking, I went through the message he sent and found the image of the man he spoke about. Now I just had to find him and force him to fish out who planned the attack on Leah.
"So how is the plan working out? Is Leah suspicious of the sudden second chance honeymoon?"
"Great, other than the fact she mingled with humans for her utmost curiosity. I have to keep a close eye on her, this idea is stupid." I remarked. "Well, you were the one being overly protective and judging our guarding skills. She's your wife and problem now so deal with it."
I scoffed, "Just keep everything ok standby. I will find the tamarind tomorrow." I hung up, tossing the phone on the table.
My mind wandered back to a few days earlier.
FLASHBACK (Three days earlier)
Kai barged into my office, the door slamming open with the kind of energy only he could bring. My head jerked up from the papers on my desk, eyes narrowing against the harsh glow of his phone as he shoved it toward me without so much as a hello.
"What is it, Kai?" I asked, my voice sharp, clipped. I wasn't in the mood for one of his dramatic entries-not today.
"Look at this," he said, practically thrusting the screen into my face. I leaned back instinctively, catching a blurred glimpse of what looked like a party in full swing-people dancing, colorful lights, the whole deal.
"It's a photo of people having a good time. What's the purpose?" I deadpanned, but he didn't so much as flinch.
"Look closer," he pressed, his tone low and urgent. Reluctantly, I squinted at the image, scanning the crowd. At first, nothing stood out. Just people celebrating, like any other night. But then, there it was. My eyes caught on a detail-something that made my stomach twist into a tight, uneasy knot.
The logo.
It was subtle, just barely visible on the back of a jacket worn by some guy in the crowd. But I recognized it instantly. The Underdogs.
My jaw clenched. "This is from the Thanksgiving parade, isn't it? The night three people turned up dead."
Kai nodded, his expression grim. "Exactly. That jacket was found near the bodies, but nobody could trace it back to anyone specific."
I heard about the attack and even saw the jacket the human police had in their custody, that was why it looked. Those serial killers were now on my trace.
I stared at the photo again, my mind racing. These Underdoggs weren't just a random gang; mercenaries, the kind who didn't care about allegiances or consequences.
They worked for whoever paid them, and they had a reputation for making problems disappear-permanently. The fact that their logo had shown up at the scene of those murders wasn't just a coincidence.
"They knew," Kai continued, pacing now like he couldn't stand still. "They knew the Underdoggs would leave no trail back to them because they stay in the human world. Out of reach."
I tossed the photo onto my desk and leaned back in my chair, the weight of it all settling over me. Leah. Of course, this all came back to her. She had been a target ever since she stepped into this pack. She's too fragile for all these. I met Kai's gaze, my voice steady but cold. "Not on my watch."
His pacing stopped. "What do you want to do?"
I stood, the chair scraping against the floor as I pushed it back. "We find out who hired them. And we end this. Leah and I have somewhere to be. Get the transport ready." FLASHBACK ENDS
Now I just need to get to find their hideout whilst keeping Miss Curious in check.
