Avenging The Triplet Alphas -
Chapter 34
Loki's POV
I hated leaving home just as much as I hated taking a long flight but for the sake of what I was trying to accomplish, it didn't matter to me.
Everything was pretty much set up already, there were only a few tweaks needed to make the plan look even more solid. This was all it for them, there was no second chance or opportunity if this went wrong. It was probably why my brothers were paranoid about the possibility of making a mistake. During the flight, I read through the report from the investigators over and over.
I didn't tell Jonathan that I had hired another investigator to conduct his research on Arielle after the man he picked out had submitted his report. It wasn't that I didn't believe his reports, I wanted to be sure. I didn't believe Arielle could've undergone such transformation within a short period, the difference was a lot to take in at once. It was unheard of for a banished wolf who had gone rogue to find a home in a strange pack and rise through the ranks to become the fiancée to the Alpha.
The new investigator had presented similar findings to the previous, Arielle was some sort of big shot now. She was amongst the elites in the werewolf community now. She had gone from being cast down into obscurity to making a name for herself. "How long till we land?" Jonathan asked me, forcing me to take my eyes off the documents in my hand for the first time in hours.
"We should be off the plane in an hour or two." I checked my watch, we had been flying for around three hours now.
"Do you have a plan yet?" He asked me again.
I nodded. "After a good night's rest, we make contact with her pack first thing in the morning. A small part of me believes they know we're on our way already, it should help make our approach a lot easier given they already know why we're here." "What if they react badly towards our arrival? We know very little about Ethan and the depth of the strength of his pack. We should've carried out a proper intensive analysis before we started our journey."
I understood his reluctance and line of caution but I had it all figured out, I wasn't going to put my family in the face of danger despite our desperation to succeed with this.
"We don't have another month to spare and you know it. If they were going to be hostile towards us, I doubt if they'd have let us into their state in the first place. They're the most powerful pack in the state, nothing goes in or comes out without their knowledge I'm quite certain of that. It's only logical to assume that they control everything in it." I explained, hoping to calm their nerves.
I didn't just task the investigator I hired to find Arielle, I also ordered him to report everything he could learn or discover about Ethan's pack.
I wanted to know who I was coming up against, going into a new land unprepared would be folly and to their detriment.
I wanted to know who I was coming up against, going into a new land unprepared would be folly and to their detriment.
My biggest concern was Ethan, it was reported that he was a seasoned war hero. He didn't shy away from conflict, he faced them head-on no matter the circumstances levied before him. If diplomacy failed to resolve the problem at hand, there was every possibility that war would be the next logical move and I was going to relish going up against an Alpha like Ethan.
Before we left home, I sent out spies all over their land to report any news of an ambush as soon as we land. I would hate to be blindsided and if anything I've read happened to be true, Ethan was besotted with Arielle and love could make a man do unspeakable things to protect what he cherished the most.
On my instructions, the investigator I sent had been sloppy on purpose. He left enough clues to be picked up, just how I wanted. Ethan was no fool, I didn't need a soothsayer to tell me that. If I wanted to win this game, I had to make my first move before it started. I knew his first move would be to gather his pack warriors and have them prepared in the event of a battle happening, their focus would be on us alone while I would be able to inculcate a joker into the game.
My options were pretty limited but the Ethan had enemies that spanned far and wide, and I just needed the strongest out of them all to effectively destroy Ethan when the time comes.
"Loki, any positive news from the spies? I'm beginning to lose my patience." Elijah asked me as soon as he walked up to where I sat, he was the most paranoid of all of us.
Patience had never been a redeemable virtue of his and if it was left to him, he would call for war as his first choice and discard whatever the damning consequences would be.
"We haven't gotten anything yet. There haven't been reports of the Black pack doing anything other than what we presumed would happen, it's impossible to get into the fortress without being a member of the pack." I replied. "It's pretty difficult to know what goes on behind those walls if we don't have eyes on the inside. Ethan controls a tightly knit core, getting in is going to take some time."
"We don't have time on our hands, we're going to land in a few minutes and we don't have enough or know enough to unravel the man. How hard can it be to find something we can use in our favor?"
Jonathan was feeling slightly frustrated and I could understand why. But unlike my brothers, I was looking forward to seeing Ethan in person. I had to see up close the kind of person we were going to be dealing with. "Shouldn't our focus be on Arielle?" He asked me again.
She was our focus quite alright but while she is our main priority, she wasn't the only player in this game of ours. We wouldn't be able to get anything done without taking him out of the picture, it would be logically impossible for him to let Arielle leave without putting up a fight.
"He won't let her go so easily. Have you forgotten he's in love with her? Rumors have it that they're engaged to be married in a few months from now. If we want to take Arielle back home with us, Ethan had to become our priority as well."
I was slightly disappointed that neither Jonathan nor Elijah deemed Ethan to be a worthy opponent. It was a rookie's mistake and I knew it. While we were the superior pack, Ethan was no pushover and if I had learned anything from reading out his war against his uncle, it was that he wouldn't be a pushover.
He was a threat and rightfully so.
"Ethan isn't a man prone to making mistakes, not when he knows the high stakes involved in this. He knows we're coming and he knows we're on the lookout for him, we wanted it to be the way from the start. We wanted him scared and wary of the danger we possessed and now that I'm convinced he's understood the strength of our pack, he's bound to be extra careful than he has ever been."
I answered, turning towards my brothers.
"We can't keep up this game of chess forever," Jonathan replied to me. "We have to focus on the bigger picture and what we were coming down here for, getting Arielle back."
"It's been weeks, he's bound to make a mistake any time soon. As it happened with his uncle, he has his moments where he becomes rash and gullible especially when emotions are heightened, we just have to wait for it to happen. Believe me, I understand you both think I've been wasting a lot of valuable time making your research about the kind of Alpha he is and how powerful he might be, but I know this will work."
"You sound so certain." Elijah stared at me.
He was skeptical about the whole thing and I couldn't blame him, I sounded like a mad man.
"A man driven by the need to protect what he loves is bound to make a move soon. We just have to be waiting and ready for when he strikes. All we need to do is stoke the flames and wait for it to burn down everything he longed for."
I was sure about this. Ethan didn't know how desperate we were to bring Arielle back, so we would act on it. It was better to make him feel the pressure instead of it being the other way around.
"So what do you suggest we do?" Jonathan asked after a long pause.
I smirked. "We do what we came here to do in the first place, bring Arielle back home."
