Gemma beamed, and fuck, I understood now why Julian warned us to stay away.

Because Christ, Gemma Briggs was gorgeous. Creamy skin, pretty freckles, bright blue eyes, and vibrant hair that reminded me of summer—of the hot sun and sprouting flowers. The orange kind with coppery speckles. Lilies. Tiger lilies.

“It’s nice to meet you, Noah,” Gemma replied, unaware that she was blasting me away with that smile of hers. She leaned closer and muttered, “I’m so sorry you have to live with my brother.”

I laughed.

She was sweet, but I could tell she had little claws.

I liked that.
