Waverly shuddered as she clenched the shirt in her hand.

She closed her eyes but couldn't help sniffling. Forget it; respect the dead! Anyhow, he was gone. She could only let bygones be bygones. She should let it go, no matter how great the grudge was!

If the Wright family weren't so pestering, she really didn't want anything to do with them. No one won in this marriage, and her reputation, no, perhaps her entire life had also been caught in the mix, no? Maybe, death was true freedom. Living was not as happy as being dead, just like she was right now!

However, she had to stay alive no matter how miserable she was!

Since she decided to stay alive, she'd look alive. What was more, that family didn't deserve it, even if she fell depressed, it wasn't worth it!

Not worth it!

Touseling her hair in annoyance, she heard rustling as she moved her hands. Waverly lowered her head to see the shopping bag by her feet. Inside was her soiled outfit.

She glanced at the shirt in her hand and unconsciously twitched her lips. Getting up, she fished out a pen and drew two big turtles on the back of the clean shirt.

Take advantage of me, bad!

Stand idly by, bad!

She thought the turtle's head didn't look good bare after she was done drawing, so she added four strands of hair on it, rendering her chuckling when she looked at her 'masterpiece'. "Hmph, I'll draw a turtle every time you leave a bad impression. This will be your big surprise when this is all over!"

Making a face at the shirt, Waverly folded it and stuffed it in a corner she rarely used. After cleaning up the mess, she grabbed the handbag and put it in the glass bag cabinet before she carried the shopping bag with her soiled clothes to the washing machine. With a shake, a small yellow box fell out. Curious, she bent over and picked it up. "Huh? What's this?"

Turning it over, she saw a couple of words, XX ointment.

Anti-inflammatory ointment?

Touching her cheek lightly, Waverly smiled. When did he buy it? She didn't even notice!

"Well, you at least have a heart!"

Holding the ointment in her hand, she even hummed a tune for once. After getting everything done and cleaning her face, she opened the yellow box and applied the ointment as instructed.

The cool touch brought a slight stinging sensation to her skin, but she felt much better. Seeing that the ointment was a grayish-brown, looking very obvious on her cheek. An idea struck her as she looked at her mottled face in the mirror, fishing out her phone. Meanwhile, Wyatt had taken a shower and ended a call when he heard a ping on his phone. Opening the notification, he got a jumpscare seeing the content, nearly chucking his phone away.

It was a photo of Waverly winking, pouting her big red lips, covering half her face as she wore a ridiculous big red flower on her head. There were even a few texts on the side.

Am I pretty?

This woman sure was interesting. Was she worried that he would not have nightmares?

Shaking his head, Wyatt guffawed. He got what she was trying. She wanted him to know she saw the ointment he got her and even used it. And that big pouting red lips, looking like she was making a kiss, was to tell him thanks, wasn't it? She could've just texted him a thank you when she deliberately did all this!

"Haha..."

Inexplicably amused, Wyatt's mood brightened up as he texted a reply.

"Yeah, put more on. Scare the hell out of some ghosts!"

On the other end, Waverly received his text when she had just removed the lipstick. She couldn't help chuckling as well as she removed the excess ointment on her face before heading out.

The dramatic and disaster-stricken night surprisingly ended on a rather good note for the both of them...

Ending a day's social engagement, Willy dragged his tired body home. His heart seemed to have frozen over, indescribably empty, as he lay in bed.

He subconsciously felt his neck and pulled out a thin silver necklace with couples' rings. He stroked it for a while before he clenched it in his fist. Laurie, where the hell had she gone?

Why couldn't he find even a single thing about her when he had turned almost all of Casterwich City upside down. Even Sharon couldn't contact her?! She probably didn't have a lot of money on her. She didn't have a home either. So where could she have gone to?

He couldn't believe a living person carrying a big belly could disappear before his eyes!

Where in the world had gone wrong?

Suffocating from the heartache, Willy got up and made his way to the wine rack, taking a bottle of wine and a wine glass. Laurie and his soon-to-be-born baby...

His heart was aching and bleeding.

He had been frantically searching for

her lately, working overtime

non-stop afraid of having any time to himself. He seemed to be able to hear the sound of his heart

Love

shattering as if he was going

die

every time he saw a motor

a child.

After chugging a few glasses, suppressing his frustration, Willy headed for the shower.

As the freezing cold water splashed on him, his stiffened body gradually relaxed. Exiting the bathroom, he looked up inadvertently to see the toy poodle plushie in a red and blue sweater on the sofa, and an ethereal voice popped up in his head.

"... Let's get a pair. I'll hold the white one, and you take the brown one. We can even stitch words. Let's do 'male' and 'female'. Perfect!"

As though captivated by a magical force, the white toy poodle plushie with 'wife' stitched onto it was already in his arms when he came to his

senses.

"They were supposed to be a pair! Even you two are separated... Are we destined not to be together? Laurie, you loved dogs so much; you no longer want this one. Do you not even want your Tutu as well?"

Why did she have to be so cruel? She could come at him if she hated or resented him. Why must she so cruelly leave him with their child, and without warning at that!

Slumping onto the sofa, Willy looked

away, and a pair of tiny blue shoes

came into his sight. Half of its shape had been formed, the string still attached to the ball of yarn, an unfinished work. He could tell the effort she had put in as he felt the neat corner. Suddenly the image of her walking around while stitching in her pregnant belly came to his mind. Tears welled up all of a sudden.

She loved this child... his child!
