Bedmates Soulmates
CHAPTER 142

'Tsk, tsk. Are you getting cold feet? I guess I can understand. After all, you and McCarthy are brothers. Maybe you don't have it in you to destroy your own flesh and blood."

A pause, and then the man's voice continued. 'But does he think about you in the same way? His mother is responsible for the death of yours. And he took Deborah from you. Wasn't she the love of your li- 'Shut up!' Liam's cold voice was filled with rage. 'One more word out of you, and I'll kill you.'

'Ooh, I'm so scared. Are you going to bring down the wrath of the mighty McCarthy clan on little ol' me?"

'I will if I have to. Now stop pestering me and close the door on your way out.'

Liam gnashed his teeth, seething.

Santoro's words brought back dark memories of his past.

He would never forget what the McCarthys did to him and his mother.

Revenge was his goal in coming back to Stamford.

He would give everything, including his life, to exact it.

Austyn McCarthy was going to die at his hands.

Liam would make sure of it.

Sean patted his host on the shoulder. 'I'm glad to see you've still got the fire in you. Just don't forget to direct it at the right target. When I saw you getting close to that Hewitt woman, I was worried you were going to give up your goal for the gal. 'Miss Woods, what are you doing here?"

Kayleigh jumped at the sound.

She whipped around and came face to

face with Charles, Liam's right-hand man.

In the study, Liam and Sean exchanged a look.

Liam scowled.

Sean's eyes glinted with malice..

Both men made for the door.

Kayleigh leaned against the wall, her knees shaking.

'M...Mr Wadsworth, you gave me quite a fright!' she said, feigning indignation. 'Why'd you sneak up on me like that?"

Charles' eyes landed somewhere over her shoulder.

He gave a slight bow. "Young Master."

Kayleigh, trembling, turned around slowly.

Liam was standing there, quiet and dangerous.

Next to him was a man whose eyes made Kayleigh's hair stand on end.. "You can go now," Liamn said.

"Yes, Young Master.' Charles left as stealthily as he'd appeared.

'L..Liam.' Kayleigh tried to force a smile, but her teeth chattered.

'How long have you been standing there?"

Liam's gentle voice belied the threat in his words.

'I just came up the stairs two seconds ago, I swear! I'd just reached the landing when Mr Wadsworth appeared out of nowhere. He didn't make a sound when he walked and scared me.' 'Come on in. Liam held the door open for her.

Kayleigh braced herself and stepped into the study obediently.

She stared at the floor, trying to put as much distance as possible between her and the terrifying stranger who hadn't taken his eyes off her.

The man had a reasonably good-looking face, but his eyes were reptilian.

The door banged shut.

Kayleigh almost jumped out of her skin.

She didn't know why she was feeling so scared, but she was.

Something about the conversation she'd overheard and about the stranger just made her blood run cold.

Fear permeated every pore of her being.

It was a soul-shaking, immobilising fear.

She wanted to faint, but she couldn't.

Kayleigh uttered a tiny yelp when Liam pulled her into his arms.

He spoke next to her ear, but his words were directed at Sean. 'You can go, too. We're done here. I'll call you later.'

Sean, whose arms were crossed, ran his eyes over the actress.

He gave her a lascivious wink. 'Miss Woods, I presume? Nice to finally meet you in person. Why are you shaking? Are you feeling unwell? I happen to have some medical knowledge. Maybe I can give you a check-up." He licked his lips.

Kayleigh leaned on Liam to prevent herself from collapsing under the stranger's suggestive yet sinister gaze. 'I'm....I'm fine. Just feeling a bit chilly.

'Didn't you hear what I said?' Liam growled. 'Get out of here!!

Sean gave an insouciant shrug.

Flashing another smile at Kayleigh, he finally departed.

As soon as the door closed, Liam shoved Kayleigh onto a sofa.

Before the disoriented actress could get up, Liam straddled her.

Their faces were just inches apart.

'So, how much did you hear?' he whispered in the tender voice of a lover, which sent another shiver down her spine.

'I didn't...I didn't hear anything."

"Tsk." Liam traced a finger over her sheet-white face. 'You know I don't like it when people lie to me. So, tell the truth.
