Bedmates Soulmates
CHAPTER 280

Gideon breathed out heavily. 'All right."

He said to Kira, 'Don't go anywhere, okay? I'll be back soon."

He looked fixedly at Martin. 'Keep an eye on her. Make sure she's still here when I get back."

'Yes, Young Master.' Martin nodded, remembering what happened at the hospital last time.

The young lady had managed to give him the slip.

As soon as Gideon disappeared from view, Kira started towards the stairs.

She had to get back to the lounge in case Austyn came looking for her.

After a few steps, she stopped, spun around and glared at Martin. 'Why are you following me?"

'I'm just following Young Master's orders, Martin said placidly.

'He's your employer, not a slave owner. You don't have to do everything he says, you know."

Martin just bowed slightly and said nothing.

The young lady was quite feisty.

Was that what attracted Young Master to her?

Kira stood with her arms akimbo. 'I'm going to the ladies' room. Stop following me if you don't want to be called a pervert.

She followed the signs and headed for the nearest restroom.

Martin hesitated for a second, but went after her anyway.

Kira stood in front of the sink and washed her hands for the fourth time.

She poked her head outside the door and shrank back immediately when she saw Martin standing guard in the hallway. The man was relentless.

He probably wouldn't leave till she came out.

Kira sighed.

The restroom was huge, with twenty stalls and two rows of back-to-back sinks.

She found a plastic chair in a corner, probably the janitor's.

Kira plopped down on the chair and started thinking.

She wanted to call Austyn, but her phone was left in the clutch bag, which was left in the lounge when Gideon dragged her away. She sighed again.

It seemed that her only move, for now, was to wait it out.

Maybe Gideon's assistant had to answer the call of nature at some point and be forced to leave.

Kira heard a toilet flush.

The door of the second-to-last stall opened.

A woman walked out.

She wore a black knee-length dress with sequins.

Her heels clacked on the tiled floor with a crisp sound.

Kira froze when she saw the woman's face.

She must be hallucinating.

The woman had a face exactly like hers.

Was this a dream?

The woman didn't appear to have noticed Kira in the corner.

She washed her hands, dried them with a paper towel, checked her makeup and then left.

She did not once look in Kira's direction.

Kira remained motionless in the chair.

Her mouth was hanging open.

She pinched her cheek.

It hurt.

So this wasn't a dream.

She had just met her doppelgänger!

Kira shot to her feet and chased after the woman.

Martin was still there, but his head was lowered, his eyes on a pack of cigarettes.

Kira seized the opportunity and tiptoed away from him, thankful for the carpeted floor which

Her Depelganger

absorbed the sound of her footsteps.

She started running as soon as she left the hallway.

She glanced back.

Martin wasn't coming after her.

He must not have noticed her.

Kira scanned the hall.

She spotted the woman in the black dress ahead of her, moving towards a large balcony..

Kira approached slowly.

She marvelled at the woman's face in profile-it was almost a carbon copy of hers.

If she didn't know any better, she would've thought Helen had given birth to identical twins.

But Kira soon realised they were not really identical.

The woman was about half a head taller than her, with a fuller figure and longer hair.

She was standing in front of the railing, looking pensive.

"Um, hello.' Kira ventured a greeting.

Gwen turned her head.

Kira was taken aback, not by the striking similarity of their faces, but by the complete lack of surprise in the woman's reaction.

Her eyes didn't widen; her brows didn't shoot up; her jaw didn't drop.

Kira recalled her astonishment when she first saw the woman's face, but her doppelgänger didn't appear surprised, not even a little bit.

Did this mean she'd seen Kira before?

Gwen recognised Kira Hewitt on sight.

So this was Gideon's beloved, the woman of his heart, the woman he'd been searching for for the past two years.

Gwen gave her a once-over.

It was like looking into a mirror.

Other than their height difference and Hewitt's slightly more youthful air, they could have passed for identical twins.

Gwen inclined her head. 'Hello."

Her Cooperganger

Kira pointed to her own face. 'This may sound a bit weird, but, um, are we somehow related?"

Maybe Dad had a younger sister or brother somewhere, and this woman was Kira's cousin.

Their faces were so similar that they had to share DNA somehow.

Gwen looked at her with a faint trace of a smile. 'Miss, this is my first time meeting you. If you are a relative of mine, wouldn't I have seen you before?' Kira scratched her head.

The woman was right.

Kira's question came from nowhere and must have sounded a little impertinent to her.

'Sorry, I was just...surprised. I've never met my doppelgänger before."

'I'm not your doppelgänger,

Gwen thought. 'I'm your stand-in.'

Kira shifted her gaze away, but she couldn't help stealing curious glances at the woman.

The more she looked, the more she was astounded by how similar they were.

But she also noticed subtle differences not visible from afar.

For instance, the woman's smile, though charming, was a little too symmetrical and too.... perfect.

Both corners of her mouth were raised by exactly the same degree.

Only the muscles around her mouth moved..

There was no slight crinkling of the nose, no tiny wrinkles around the eyes.

Kira looked away.

Gwen noticed Hewitt's inquisitive gaze.

When she sensed Gwen looking at her, Kira offered a polite, sheepish grin. It irked Gwen.
