Bedmates Soulmates -
CHAPTER 361
Jesse heaved a sigh when he sensed she wasn't going to accept his explanation.
Maybe he should leave it to Austyn
Kira was Austyn's wife.
It was Austyn's responsibility to clear up the misunderstanding.
He, Jesse Chase, was just a poor doctor who got dragged out of bed at night to do a thankless job,
As compensation, he decided to charge Austyn twice the market rate for a house call.
"I'll leave you to rest. Take care of your shoulder for the next couple of days. Stay away from strenuous activities."
Like climbing down a second-floor balcony with a bedsheet ladder.
Jesse closed the door.
1 Think Fin Falling in Love Will He
He found Austyn in the study.
An ashtray on the table n
next to him was overflowing with cigarette butts.
Jesse knocked on the open door before walking inside.
'Her right shoulder's dislocated. I fixed it. She'll be fine." Austyn just nodded.
Jesse patted his friend on the shoulder. 'I don't know what happened between you two, but I think I have a rough idea, seeing the state the bedroom is in. A word of advice, be gentler next time. Don't act like a barbarian. Your wife's such a sweet girl. Don't bully her like this." Austyn didn't say anything
Jesse helped himself to a cigarette from Austyn's pack and lit it up.
"You know, you could learn a thing or two from your assistant, Jesse said. 'Kal talks too much; you talk too little. But if you don't tell a certain someone all the nice little things you've done for her, she's never gonna know."
Jesse tried, but Kira appeared sceptical about what he said.
Austyn thought he was protecting Kira; Kira thought she was held prisoner.
This kind of misunderstanding and all the drama that ensued could have been avoided if the man had been just a tad more open. Jesse blew out a smoke ring. "You're thirty years old, man. Time to grow up. I know you don't exactly have a lot of experience when it comes to romantic relationships. The last girlfriend you had was, what, seven years ago? You really need to learn how to treat a woman right. That is, if you still want this marriage to work.'
Jesse gave up when Austyn showed no response.
He rolled his eyes.
'Fine. Don't listen to me. I'm still single. Who am I to give you marital advice?'
He placed the tube of ointment on the table. 'Apply this to her bruise, three times a day. It relieves pain and swelling. If the bruise won't go down after a week, come and see me.' Jesse turned around.
The study was pin-drop quiet without his voice.
When Austyn whispered something, Jesse almost didn't hear him...
But he did, yet he couldn't believe what he heard.
'Come again?
Austyn looked straight at him.
'Jesse, I think I'm falling in love with her."
The cigarette in Jesse's hand dropped to the floor.
He didn't notice.
Did he hear Austyn right?
The man was falling in love with Kira?
Kira Hewitt?
'Are you out of your mind?" Jesse shouted.
Remembering the subject of their conversation was next door, he lowered his voice and whisper-shouted. 'Are you crazy?'
Austyn wasn't supposed to love Kira when he married her!
He wasn't supposed to feel anything for her.
In fact, he wasn't supposed to marry her in the first place.
"A Pock And A Danie Hand Mi
A Rock And A Damn Hard Place
Jesse's jaw had dropped when he learned about the secret marriage.
He'd thought
friend was insane back then
But he relaxed when he realised it was just Austyn's way to compensate the girl
The title of Mrs McCarthy would give her protection and a pretty comfortable life.
It was going to be a marriage in name only.
It would be like Austyn had a long-term house guest.
But now, hearing this declaration of love, Jesse knew for sure Austyn had gone off the deep end.
'Do you know what you're saying?"
Austyn nodded.
Jesse struggled to keep his voice down. 'When I said treat her right, I meant don't dislocate her shoulder or throw stuff in the room. I didn't mean fall in love with her! Please tell me you're kidding." "I'm not.
Austyn had struggled with it.
This feeling that was swelling up inside his chest.
He didn't recognise it at first.
It wasn't the same feeling as what he had for Deborah.
So he didn't think it was love
Fondness mixed with guilt, maybe, but not love.
