The housekeeper looked to the stairs. Young Master's not with you?"

'I thought he'd left."

"Huh? But I didn't see him go out.' Elsie wiped her hands on her apron. 'But I remember hearing the sound of engine last night. Maybe he left at night?"

Elsie checked the bedroom and the study upstairs.

Both rooms were empty.

Kira sat at the breakfast table, holding her phone in hand.

When she called Paul to apologise for her absence from the office for the past two days, the manager had sounded extremely understanding

She didn't know what Kai told the manager, but Paul seemed to be under the impression that Kira had come down with a sudden bout of a mysterious illness that was keeping her brdbound. Paul even extended her leave by another week.

Kira hung up the phone, relieved.

With her arm like Popeye the Sailor's, she was in no state to report for work

Kira shoved a spoonful of oatmeal in her mouth but tasted nothing.

She replayed the events of the past three days in her mind.

The way Austyn acted at the restaurant was a real shock to her

Then came the false imprisonment.

Jesse called it protection, Kira thought it made no difference.

She'd made up her mind to divorce him, so she refused to let him touch her after they got home last night.

He stopped at the last minute, but Kira was still reeling from the traumatising experience.

But then he got Jesse to tend to her wounds

He sneaked into the room and applied ointment on her arm while she was asleep.

Kira was confused by all the mixed signals he was sending

"Huh? What?" Kita was startled out of her trance.

Elsie was sitting next to her and waving a hand in front of her

She gasped at the swollen arm. 'What happened? Who did this to you? Young Master?"

Kira wanted to shrug, but the pain made her give up.

So she just nodded.

Elsie's face fell. 'How could he do such a thing? This is so wrong. How could he treat his wife this way?"

Kira opened her mouth but checked herself.

Should she talk about this with Elsie?

The matronly housekeeper was genuinely concerned about her.

She urged Kira. 'Go on, tell me. Come on, don't cover for him. This time, I'm not going to side with Young Master anymore. No matter what happened between you two, that's still no reason for him to lay his hand on you." Kira's heart was flooded with warmth. 'Elsie, I...I suggested the idea of divorce to him last night. 'Young Madam, what are you thinking?' Elsie was beside herself. "Why would you want to divorce him? Young Master may be a little cold at times, but deep down, he's a good man!'

'You were ready to condemn him a minute ago,' Kira thought. 'Now you're defending him?"

Out loud, she said, 'He's the one who wants to abandon me first,'

He said so in the restaurant.

She heard it loud and clear.

Liam had touched her, so she belonged in the dumpster.

Kira didn't think she could stand the humiliation if Austyn said that to her face, so she made the first move.

"What? When did he say that? Elsie couldn't sit still. 'Did you two quarrel again? Maybe he said it in the heat of the moment. I'm sure he didn't mean it. 'Young Madam!' Elsie would have grabbed Kira's arm but stopped herself at the sight of the bruise. "You can't have any contact with Llam. Young Master is going to go through the roof if he knows this!!

'He already knew. He saw me with Liam. Kira pointed to her arm. 'That's how I got the bruise."

Elsir's mouth opened and closed several times.

She wrung her hands.

'If this is because of Liam, you got off lightly."

That comment put Kira's back up. 'You mean a dislocated shoulder is getting off lightly? What should he have done? Tie a cinderblock around my ankles and feed me to the sharks?"

"Oh no no, that's not what I meant." Elsie hurriedly shook her head. 'I misspoke."

Kira leaned back in her chair, unappeased.
