Chapter 133 Workplace Challenges

“A date?”

Such an innocent request surprised Yvonne. She leaned back on the sofa, quietly observing Benson.

Benson smiled at her, not with a superficial politeness, but with a genuine smile that seemed to see through her thoughts.

He broke the silence softly. “What’s the matter? Do you think I’d only make crude requests like asking you to sleep with me?”

Yvonne didn’t answer, her eyes seemed veiled with a mist, making it hard to focus clearly.

Her mind was exhausted from the journey and the family disputes, and all she wanted now was a moment of peace.

The silence lingered for a while, and the atmosphere in the room became almost suffocating.

Finally, Yvonne spoke faintly, her voice tinged with weariness, “You could do that.”

“Just sleep with you?” Benson’s tone carried a hint of mockery and coldness, as if testing her limits.

Yvonne nodded slightly, her voice almost pleading. “In front of my mom, can you just play along?”

Benson stared at her face, as if trying to find more hidden emotions in her eyes.

Yvonne pressed her lips together awkwardly; she hadn’t intended to be so blunt, but not saying it made her feel uneasy.

Eventually, Benson paused for a moment before succinctly agreeing, “Okay.”

“Five times,” he added, setting a condition.

This unexpected response made Yvonne pause, then she laughed wryly. This man always managed to be unpredictable.

Benson fell silent and sat next to her, a peculiar atmosphere flowing between them.

His face was tinged with faint displeasure and a bit of contemplation, as if he was evaluating the pros and cons of this deal.

Still in her outdoor clothes, Yvonne relaxed on the comfortable sofa, her breathing becoming more eve

even.

As time passed, fatigue finally overcame her remaining alertness. She closed her eyes, easing the tension. of the day.

Benson felt the weight of her head resting on his shoulder, the slight pressure causing his own body to

relax a bit.

He glanced sideways, seeing her long, dark eyelashes flutter gently, casting a soft shadow on her delicate face.

At this moment, she had shed her daytime sharpness, revealing a bit of a young girl’s fragility and fatigue. His fingers unconsciously brushed her messy hair aside, quietly watching her sleep.

In that moment, even the air seemed to become gentler.

His gaze drifted unintentionally to the abstract painting on the wall, his deep eyes reflecting the chaotic colors of the artwork. He sat silently, pondering the future.

Chapter 133 Workplace Chutengen

The next morning, the first rays of dawn filtered gently through the sheer curtains, falling on Yvonne’s bed.

She opened her eyes to find herself alone in bed.

She recalled waking up in the middle of the night, feeling too hot to sleep.

She had quietly gotten up, changed into a cool blue nightgown, and splashed her face with cold water in the bathroom, feeling more refreshed.

Returning to bed, Benson was already sound asleep, his breathing even and calm, like a carefree child.

The following morning, she slipped on her slippers and went downstairs.

As she approached the dining room, she heard cheerful conversation and laughter.

She stopped, curious, and listened.

“Benson, is Yvonne really that amazing?” Hannah’s voice was filled with joy and pride, discussing some exciting news.

Benson’s reply was warm and sincere, “Yes, she’s outstanding. I remember the time in the sterile workshop, she stood there, radiating brilliance, truly unforgettable.”

Hannah’s laughter grew brighter, “Yvonne is such a smart and diligent girl! Benson, you must cherish her.”

Benson’s response was firm and affectionate, “I certainly will. I care for her deeply, you can rest assured.”

Yvonne leaned quietly at the doorway, Benson’s words “I care for her deeply” causing her heart to flutter slightly.

She knew that even if Benson was comforting her mother, there was some truth in his words.

She knew her mother, Hannah, hadn’t been this happy in years, and she was grateful for Benson’s efforts.

As Yvonne entered the dining room, Benson noticed her arrival, his gaze instantly softening, filled with concern and affection.

He stood up, pulling out a chair for her like a gentleman

“Good morning, Yvonne,” he said gently, as if everything between them was perfectly normal.

Susan, the housekeeper, walked in with steaming breakfast.

The aroma of bacon, eggs, and freshly baked bread filled the room.

“Good morning, Yvonne, Mr. Benson,” she said warmly, offering the well–prepared dishes.

“Yvonne, Benson said you could stay here for a while, Hannah looked at her daughter with anticipation and joy.

Yvonne smiled slightly, glancing at Benson.

He gently stroked her head, his affectionate gesture and loving gaze capturing the warmth of the moment perfectly.

Over the next two days, both Yvonne and Benson stayed at Yvonne’s home.

Her mother looked more spirited, while Mary, another employee of the household, seemed genuinely unable to work anymore.

Later, Yvonne had Megan investigate and her apartment, her

arned that Mary had been confined to movements severely restricted.

This made Yvonne suspicious, prompting her to plan a visit to Mary’s place to find out the truth.

For her, the safety of every family member was equally important.

Yvonne looked up from the screen, her gaze drifting through the floor–to–ceiling window to the dusk settling over the city outside her office.

Though the workday was nearing its end, her mind was still wrestling with unfinished reports and unresolved project progress.

Her fingers tapped the desk unconsciously until her phone’s vibration interrupted her worries.

Benson’s name flashed on the screen, making her heartbeat quicken slightly.

As she answered the call, Benson’s cheerful voice came through.

“Good evening. Yvonne. How about we go out for dinner? I remember we said we’d have hot pot again.”

His voice eased her tension a bit.

Yvonne remembered that cold night when they first went out as friends, sharing a warm, friendly time over a steaming hot pot.

Now, Benson’s mention of it undoubtedly brought back those fond memories.

She smiled slightly, her tone light, “Sure, I’ll join you.

She knew his suggestion of hot pot was partly to cater to her taste, this thoughtful gesture making her feel warm.

She quickly packed up to leave, but just then, her phone rang again. It was Megan.

Reluctantly, she answered and heard Megan’s urgent voice, “Yvonne, the head of BR, Steven, just arrived! They’re already in the meeting room.”

Her heart sank, and she had no choice but to turn back, driving back to the office.

Entering the office building, the corridor felt unusually quiet, only her high heels echoing in the empty hall. When she opened the meeting room door, Steven and another handsome, tall man were in conversation,

Steven saw her and immediately greeted her with a somewhat apologetic smile.

“Yvonne, this is Jeremy Gilbert, our head of domestic market operations.”

Steven’s introduction eased the atmosphere a bit.

The man smiled, “Hello, Miss Yvonne, I’m Jeremy Gilbert.”
