Benson 167
Chapter 167 Conversation at the Derelict Hotel
Yvonne stood in the airport lobby, clutching her ticket. The time was 7 PM.
Her mood was exceptionally heavy, knowing she still had a long wait ahead.
She glanced outside at the pale winter sunset. The sky was darkening, and the temperature was steadily dropping.
She called Megan, her voice tinged with anxiety. “Megan, what did you find out about Olivia?”
She tried to keep her tone calm, but the urgency seeped through.
Megan’s voice came from the other end, filled with regret and apology.
“Miss Yvonne, I’m sorry… I found out that Olivia passed away seven years ago.”
These words hit Yvonne like a cold, heavy stone.
Despite her rational mind telling her to be prepared, hearing the news still brought an immense sense of loss.
Her eyes welled up slightly, but she quickly lifted her chin, trying to suppress the turmoil within.
Olivia had been her childhood friend, someone she could never mistake.
She took a deep breath and calmly said, “Don’t worry about it anymore.” Her voice carried a decisive and resolute tone.
Since the situation was irreversible, she had to look forward and not let herself drown in sorrow and helplessness.
Benson had been “busy” in St. George for many days, and Yvonne suspected he had gathered a lot of information about her.
After some thought, she decided to change her plans and cancel her trip to the airport, opting to return to Matthew’s villa instead.
She soon arrived near the villa, her expression exceptionally calm.
She dialed Benson’s number, her tone calm yet tinged with coldness. “Where are you?”
The phone picked up, and a deep voice came from the receiver, with a hint of tenderness. “What’s wrong?”
“Where is Mary?” Yvonne got straight to the point, skipping any pleasantries.
“She’s upstairs,” Benson’s voice revealed a trace of unease and fatigue, clearly
at a loss on how to handle the situation.
Yvonne said no more, hanging up the phone and heading towards the derelict hotel.
The hotel was old, in stark contrast to the luxury car parked outside.
The lobby was small and felt even more cramped and oppressive due to the presence of several men.
The corner lights were dim, and the floor had a few stains, creating a suffocating and uneasy environment.
She walked into the lobby. Matthew, wearing a hoodie and jeans, was taken aback by her arrival. “Sis, why are you dressed so lightly?”
Yvonne didn’t respond, just looked at Matthew coldly and asked, “Where’s
Mary?”
“Upstairs,” Matthew replied simply, clearly surprised by Yvonne’s presence.
Yvonne climbed the creaking wooden stairs, each step feeling particularly
heavy.
She pushed open a room door, and there was Mary, looking disheveled.
Mary had a few scratches on her face, and her already bad leg looked even more battered, as if she had just endured extreme torture.
Mary looked up and saw Yvonne, sneering without a hint of remorse on her
face.
She sat on the floor, exhausted, but her eyes gleamed with satisfaction and
defiance.
Her expression seemed to hide a sense of psychological victory.
“Yvonne, I think you’re quite pathetic.” Mary’s voice was laced with sarcasm, her eyes cold as she looked at Yvonne like a useless doll.
Yvonne leaned against the small window in the room, her gaze fixed on Mary.
She didn’t speak, just quietly observed Mary’s behavior.
Her expression was calm and resolute, as if she had made a firm decision in
her heart.
“What nonsense are you spouting? Don’t you want your leg anymore?” Matthew interjected impatiently, clearly fed up and annoyed by Mary’s actions.
His tone carried a hint of anger, as if Mary’s behavior had finally provoked him.
Mary couldn’t help but laugh, her laughter filled with a mix of madness and
contempt.
“Just now, Mr. Benson came and taught me a lesson. He thought I was
secretly poisoning you.
Haha… Yvonne, Mr. Benson has no idea why you’re targeting me.
He doesn’t know that you actually hate me, and he doesn’t even know what it means for him to choose you.
You’re just a bed companion. Seriously, the boss treating his wife as a bed companion, haha…”
Mary’s laughter was tinged with madness, and tears streamed down her face from laughing too hard.
Her expression was full of mockery towards Benson, ridicule towards Yvonne, and helplessness towards her own fate.
Yvonne’s face remained calm, her gaze more intense.
She looked at Mary, whose madness stemmed from unrequited love, and felt a faint sense of sorrow.
Mary’s craziness and bitterness brought Yvonne a deep sense of disappointment, but she remained composed and rational.
“I’m not you go crazy.” Yvonne’s voice was resolute:
are to wate
“I’m here for a trade. Tell me what you know about Olivia, and I’ll let you go.
Mary’s eyes flickered, seemingly surprised and intrigued by Yvonne’s words.
She tilted her head, her smile fading, replaced by a scrutinizing look.
“Really?” Her voice carried a hint of uncertainty.
“Yes.” Yvonne nodded, her tone firm.
“That’s not enough. I also want to continue acting.” Mary demanded more,
clearly unsatisfied with just getting information about Olivia. She wanted more
benefits from it.
Without hesitation, Yvonne agreed. “Fine.
Matthew stood aside, frowning, obviously unhappy with Yvonne’s decision.
He didn’t understand why Yvonne was being so lenient with Mary, but he knew he couldn’t intervene.
“Sis!” he tried to dissuade her, but his voice was filled with helplessness.
Yvonne looked at Matthew with a determined gaze. “Leave and close the door.”
She didn’t want any distractions, needing to ensure the negotiation went smoothly.
The door opened and then closed, leaving only Yvonne and Mary in the room.
Outside, the world grew colder, snowflakes began to fall, and the white scenery created a desolate atmosphere.
St. George’s night was covered in layers of frost, as if the entire world was enveloped in silence and cold.
Benson stood outside the hotel, his eyes scanning the surroundings, everything seeming to blur.
His heart was filled with chaos and anxiety. Mary’s words were like a slap in
the face.
He realized he knew nothing about the relationship between Yvonne and Mary, and this ignorance caused immense pain and guilt.
He always thought Yvonne’s actions were just to retaliate against Mary, but the reality was not so.
He began to understand that Yvonne’s disappointment and pain were far beyond his imagination.
