Chapter 203 The Reason for the Fever

The temporary board meeting of Caesar Group was underway, filled with tension. The conference room was shrouded in a heavy atmosphere, with the sunlight outside blocked by thick curtains, casting weak and scattered patches of light on the floor.

Around the conference table, the shareholders sat up straight, their expressions varied–some anxious, others angry.

The clock on the wall ticked away, and time seemed to crawl slowly in this oppressive setting.

The air was thick with tension, making it hard to breathe.

The core topic of this meeting was the cutting of several business lines.

For many shareholders, this was undoubtedly a bitter pill to swallow, like pouring water into hot oil, causing a stir of waves.

The shareholders‘ dissatisfaction boiled over like hot oil, instantly erupting.

Voices rose in the meeting room, each person displaying unease and indignation on their faces.

“Your Caesar Plaza doesn’t seem to be doing much better, yet you want to carry out such drastic reforms.”

Someone couldn’t help but voice their disgruntled doubts, their voice heavy

with anger.

“Miss Yvonne, someone in trade, thinks she can manage a fashion. company; it’s truly naive.

Another shareholder coldly mocked.

These words were like sharp arrows, striking Yvonne straight in the heart.

She stood at the front of the conference table, her gaze steady, with a hint of fatigue on her face.

She tried to explain the benefits of cutting these business lines, stating

that these lines no longer held real value within the group and had become burdensome

Her words were like light piercing through the fog, trying to illuminate. everyone’s confusion about the future.

However, the shareholders were evidently unconvinced, despite knowing that the value of these business lines had significantly diminished.

Yet, they were unwilling to give them up because they concealed a considerable amount of hidden income.

The shareholders‘ voices of doubt continued, with anger and dissatisfaction intertwined in the air, creating an invisible pressure.

The temperature in the conference room seemed to rise due to the arguments, and the sunlight streaming through the curtains resembled beams of restlessness.

Yvonne remained firm in her stance, resolutely stating, “This is a necessary step for the company’s future development; we cannot be blinded by short–term interests.

The conference room door gently opened as Benson walked in. He rested. his chin on one hand, sitting at the side of the conference table, silently observing the entire situation.

His face was stern, and a trace of calmness gleamed in his eyes.

Even though the atmosphere in the conference room was tense, Benson seemed detached, focused on watching the scene unfold before him.

One of the directors saw Benson’s arrival and quickly asked, “Miss Yvonne’s idea–has it been discussed with Chairman Charles and Mr. Benson? Do you also support this decision?”

Benson slightly lifted his chin and casually responded.

“I agree with Miss Yvonne’s decision. Rather than wasting resources on products and business lines without market competitiveness, we should. focus on projects that can achieve breakthroughs.

This will not only allow the company to stand out in the industry but also

facilitate effective integration of the company as a whole.”

His words carried clear logic and firm determination, immediately

silencing the opposing shareholders.

Chairman Charles had already agreed to this decision, and as the future leader, Benson naturally wouldn’t easily change direction.

Yvonne listened quietly from the side, and Benson’s speech gave her a slight shock.

She didn’t quite understand why Benson attributed all the credit to her, but she knew it was a huge support for her.

After the meeting, Yvonne proposed temporarily closing Caesar Plaza to upgrade the company and brand comprehensively.

She even presented the overall design plan for Caesar Plaza, a move that surprised the board members and earned the young CEO more admiration and recognition.

In the conference room, the shareholders‘ expressions gradually became complex, some appeared thoughtful, while others showed a hesitant smile.

The sunlight outside gradually softened, and the atmosphere inside eased.

Benson showed a look of surprise when he saw the detailed plan later on.

He gained a deeper understanding of Yvonne’s capabilities.

Before the meeting, Yvonne had asked him to discuss with Mr. Donald whether the jewelry design competition project could be postponed.

Because her plan was very well–executed, the mall layout adjustments and overall design style changes required time.

This made Benson realize once again that Yvonne was not just a business elite but also had profound accomplishments in art and design.

She was a top student at Parsons University, and with her talent, she could easily become an influential designer.

If John were still around, her life would undoubtedly be cherished, with a loving husband.

However, now she had to face more challenges and pressure.

The meeting lasted a full two hours, with Benson being the first to leave the conference room.

Unlike him, Yvonne was the last to leave.

Megan was waiting on the side, and when she saw Yvonne come out, she smiled happily.

“Miss Yvonne, you and Mr. Benson have such a great rapport.”

Yvonne looked up at Megan, “What rapport?”

Megan chuckled, “In the office, you didn’t say anything, but Mr. Benson immediately understood what you meant. It was clear you wanted to use his influence to get the store closure done.”

Yvonne was slightly stunned, recalling that it seemed to be true.

Even though their relationship wasn’t great, the tacit understanding between them at work was gradually emerging.

She could easily understand his meaning, and he could quickly grasp her

decisions.

Megan continued, “I just thought, wasn’t cutting the business line the thing. you most wanted to do at Caesar? With Mr. Benson’s help, why didn’t your

mention it?”

Yvonne looked a bit puzzled and, after a moment of silence, said, “I’m not quite sure about that either.”

Yvonne pushed open the office door, momentarily pausing at the sight

inside.

Benson lay on the sofa usually reserved for hosting business guests, looking lazy and somewhat helpless.

The office lighting was soft and warm, and the yellow light made the quiet afternoon even more serene.

Every inch of the floor was gently covered by light.

The air seemed filled with a stagnant sense of fatigue, adding a heavy touch to the space.

Yvonne walked over quietly, her eyes fixed on Benson’s pale face.

Seeing this, her heart tightened slightly, and she quickly reached out to feel

his forehead.

The abnormal temperature she felt made her brows involuntarily furrow.

“Benson, why do you have a fever?” her voice was laced with worry and reproach.

Benson half–opened his eyes, his voice weak but with a hint of teasing, “It’s all your fault.”

Although his words were lighthearted, they seemed heavier than expected as they echoed in the room.

Yvonne frowned tightly, impatiently retorting, “Stop talking nonsense. Get up and eat; I’ll go buy you some medicine.”

As she turned to leave, Benson suddenly grasped her hand.

“I can’t get up.” Benson’s voice was even weaker, yet his grip on Yvonne’s hand was surprisingly firm.

He slowly lifted his head, his eyes meeting Yvonne’s. The eyes that usually sparkled with wisdom now seemed to be filled with a layer of mist.

After a long pause, Benson finally spoke, his voice choked with emotion, “I took two cold showers yesterday and ended up with a fever. Isn’t it your fault?”
