Chapter 205 Mockery and Self–Reflection

Benson’s body was almost pressed against her back, feeling her soft warmth, his breath unintentionally brushing against her neck.

The warm breath moved across her skin like a gentle feather, stimulating her nerves

Her skin was particularly sensitive to this intimate contact, instantly blushing a faint red.

She couldn’t help but feel a bit embarrassed, as if she were a naive young girl easily flustered.

Benson was not surprised by her reaction.

Maybe it was because of her physical constitution, but whenever he was intimate with her, her reactions were always particularly obvious.

He thought of a word-“delicate.”

However, this delicacy was not just a description of her appearance but also a deep–seated purity within her.

When she turned to look at him, a trace of coldness flashed in her eyes, as clear as autumn water.

“Benson, stop pretending to be weak. It doesn’t suit you.” Her voice was icy, piercing straight to the heart.

Her words were like a cold wind, dispersing the warmth around him and making the air turn chilly.

This direct way of expressing herself might be one of her strategies to break the ice.

She hoped to break the impasse between them with such a tough approach.

Her eyes were full of determination and calm, leaving no room for doubt.

Benson smiled slightly, despite his exhaustion, his voice carried a hint of

helplessness and gentleness.

“I’m not pretending. I really am weak. His voice was low and weary, as if the illness of the past few days had drained him of his usual vigor.

i

His body almost completely relied on her, as if it was a dependency and also a helplessness, “I’m a patient now…”

Yvonne listened, the corner of her mouth curling up with a bit of mockery.

“You really can be flexible.” Her voice carried a touch of lightness, but the worry and concern in her eyes were unmistakable.

Benson relaxed upon hearing her words.

He was not someone with a strong sense of machismo and pride.

Years of business experiences abroad had taught him to use softness to deal with difficulties.

No matter how aggrieved or unjust, he could face it with a tolerant attitude.

Even if he was treated poorly outside, he never felt he was greatly wronged.

To him, making his wife happy and achieving their goals smoothly was the most important thing.

However, Yvonne was clearly not buying it.

“Okay, just focus on your IV. I have to go back for a meeting this afternoon. Yvonne stood up, slinging her bag over her shoulder, and straightened her clothes.

Her movements were clean and decisive, with a hint of resolve.

Benson turned his head to watch her leaving, his brows furrowed, his tone. carrying a trace of anxiety, “You’re leaving me?”

“I’ll have someone else take care of you.” Yvonne’s reply was tinged with coldness, her figure gradually fading, appearing somewhat aloof.

Benson leaned against the headboard, his eyes following her departure.

She left without even looking back, as if their relationship had completely

ended

The air in the ward seemed to grow heavier with her departure

After leaving the hospital, Yvonne walked outside, her expression complicated and indescribable.

She called Benson’s two secretaries to inquire about his work situation.

She knew Benson’s work at Caesar was extremely busy, sometimes not even having time to eat.

She couldn’t help but worry, as he clearly neglected his health.

She thought about this morning, realizing he might not have even had breakfast.

This situation left her feeling both helpless and angry, as her husband’s disregard for his health truly pained her.

She then called her mother–in–law, Victoria, briefly informing her of Benson’s hospitalization.

Victoria’s tone was cold, like a northern wind, “Is he dead?”

Yvonne was stunned for a moment, then replied, “Not yet.”

Victoria’s voice carried a hint of boredom and impatience, “Got it. Handle him however you want. If you don’t want to, just leave him.”

After hanging up, Victoria sighed deeply, filled with worry for the couple’s future.

She knew their relationship had become precarious, seemingly without room for reconciliation.

Back in the hospital ward, Benson’s fever and gastroenteritis pain made. him extremely weak.

He had barely slept well the night before, the pain and exhaustion

tormenting him, making it nearly impossible to rest.

When William arrived at the ward, he saw that Benson’s IV bag was nearly empty.

He quickly pressed the call button for the nurse to replace the medication.

In the dimly lit ward, Benson’s figure appeared particularly shrunken and lonely, curled up in the bed, looking extremely tired and helpless.

Benson barely opened his eyes, surprised and weary at seeing William, Why are you here?”

“Yvonne called Matthew to ask if he could come take care of you. Matthew was on a business trip, so he asked me to come.”

William explained, his tone carrying a hint of helplessness and mockery.

Benson sat up, leaning against the headboard, his brows tightly furrowed,” That woman just left me here?”

“Come on, considering what you’ve done, her taking care of you shows she’s kind–hearted.”

William’s tone was teasing but also carried a hint of admiration for Yvonne.

Benson frowned deeply, “It’s her kindness that worries me.

William glanced at him, a trace of sympathy in his eyes.

“Couples always have conflicts or arguments, there will always be some resentment. But look at Yvonne, her demeanor is so gentle, her emotions stable. She handles your relationship as if everything is normal, as if nothing ever happened.”

“But I can’t really sympathize with you.”

William’s tone carried a hint of sarcasm and indifference.

“Whatever you think, you brought this on yourself. When she first married you, everyone could see how happy and in love she was, but you were cold

and indifferent.”

“Okay, are you here to irritate me?”

Benson interrupted impatiently, his tone filled with fatigue and

helplessness.

William shook his head, his tone light, “I’m here to mock you. If you knew

this would happen, why did you do it in the first place? You avoided it for three years, and you still couldn’t escape, right?”

Benson’s expression revealed deep exhaustion and helplessness.

His brows were tightly knit, seemingly unable to escape the current predicament.

William’s teasing stirred his inner turmoil, increasing his confusion and uncertainty about the future.

He knew that his current predicament was not just physical illness but also deep–seated frustration and helplessness in his heart.

The dim light in the ward remained, William’s voice echoing in the quiet

room.

At this moment, Benson felt trapped in a quagmire he couldn’t escape,

with those around him only able to watch, unable to offer substantial help. Benson rubbed his aching forehead, “Just shut up already.”
