Chapter 226 Unfulfilled Expectations

Yvonne stood at the entrance of the hospital’s Inpatien word, her fingers cold as they tapped on the door, but the only response was silence.

Her heart was filled with anxiety, yet in this cold, white space, she knew she couldn’t really bring herself to

kick the door down.

Her breathing quickened, and sweat beaded on her forehead, while the air around her seemed to press on her patience.

Jeremy approached her, concern etched on his face.

His eyes held a mix of warmth and helplessness.

“I’ve booked a hotel for you. You should rest; I’ll take you there.”

His voice carried a tone of care and tenderness, clearly noticing Yvonne’s exhaustion and anxiety.

Yvonne lifted her head slightly, a flicker of hesitation in her eyes.

She felt her body was utterly fatigued, yet her inner anxiety made it hard to relax.

Her voice trembled slightly, “I’ll go on my own.”

She tried to insist on her decision, though she knew deep down it might not be realistic.

Jeremy crossed his arms, his gaze soft but resolute. He didn’t reply immediately but silently observed Yvonne, as if trying to read her true thoughts from her expression. His silence carried an understanding and resignation, clearly recognizing Yvonne’s determination.

“Alright, Jeremy, I’ll follow your arrangements; I won’t argue anymore.”

Finally, Yvonne lowered her head, a hint of compromise in her eyes.

Her voice was tinged with helplessness and gratitude, as if she had finally accepted Jeremy’s kindness.

She knew that although Jeremy’s suggestion seemed firm, the care behind it was something she couldn’t refuse.

They both left the inpatient ward together, walking out of the hospital building, where the night breeze brought a slight chill.

The night in Mesquite was cool, much more comfortable than the dry heat of Las Vegas.

Yvonne had her coat draped over her arm as she stood under the outdoor lights, waiting for Jeremy’s car.

The light bathed her figure, casting a soft glow over her silhouette.

Yvonne’s features appeared even more delicate in the light; although her cheeks looked slightly thinner, she still retained her unique charm..

Her clear, autumn–like eyes sparkled with a captivating light, as if they could easily stir emotions deep within someone’s heart.

Her figure was elegant, her curves graceful, showcasing her feminine allure.

As she stood there under the lights, she looked like a living work of art.

Just then, a black luxury car slowly pulled up in front of her.

Yvonne looked up, smiling politely as she glanced over However, as the car door opened, her smile froze.

The man who stepped out was Benson, and his sudden appearance left her momentarily stunned. The smile vanished from her lips, replaced by a flash of surprise and confusion in her eyes.

Benson stepped out of the car, his tall figure exuding an undeniable aura of authority.

His gaze lingered on Yvonne’s face for a moment before he walked straight over and pulled her into his

amis.

Without any words, he leaned in and kissed her.

The kiss was filled with intense possessiveness and emotion, as if he was trying to pull her entirely into his world with that single act.

“What are you…” Yvonne’s voice was laced with surprise and confusion, her eyes widening.

She tried to push Benson away, but his arms held her tightly like steel.

His kiss carried a deep emotion, as if he was using this gesture to express the complex feelings within him.

“You’re wondering why I didn’t leave, right? Since you were so eager for me to go, I decided not to give you what you want.”

Benson’s voice was tinged with a mix of mockery and defiance as he continued to kiss her with force, holding her firmly in his embrace.

His hands were warm and strong, resting on her slim waist, as if he intended to keep her close.

He knew the beauty that lay beneath her clothes, and he wasn’t about to let anyone else touch her.

Jeremy’s car headlights briefly illuminated the scene of the two locked in a passionate kiss at the hospital entrance.

It was near midnight, and Benson, with his strong build, held Yvonne closely, their intimate moment under the lights looking surprisingly beautiful.

Jeremy watched the scene, a slight smile curling his lips. He didn’t get out of the car but instead quietly backed away.

He was a bit surprised by Benson’s unexpected behavior, but there was also a hint of amusement.

Just like at Mr. Donald’s dinner party, Benson always managed to bring unexpected surprises.

Although Benson’s actions surprised him, the unpredictability added an element of interest.

He mused to himself that if an opponent was too easy, there wouldn’t be much fun in the challenge.

Benson’s kiss gradually softened, becoming tender and filled with deep emotion.

Although Yvonne couldn’t fully reciprocate his passion, it was enough to satisfy him.

His lips left hers, and he held her tightly, whispering, “I won’t leave you again.”

For some reason, Yvonne’s eyes began to sting, and a suffocating sense of sadness started to well up, as if needles were pricking her heart.

A complex mix of emotions rose within her, impossible to describe with words.

She tried to push Benson away, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t. Instead, she pounded on

his chest.

Her fists lacked strength, but this small act of defiance brought her a bit of relief.

Benson silently held her, letting her vent her emotions.

He leaned close to her ear and whispered, 1 prefer you outbursts over your coldness.

Yvonne, in frustration, bit his shoulder, but Benson didn’t finch; instead, he seemed to enjoy the sensation. He reveled in the closeness, despite Yvonne’s intense reaction, finding it refreshingly real and precious.

Every move she made, every breath she took, gave hirrian indescribable sense of satisfaction.

When they finally got into the car, Yvonne quietly sat in the passenger seat.

The soft light inside the car bathed her face, casting a faint glow over her features.

Her eyelashes, like wings, cast ontle shadows on her fair skin.

At that moment, she exuded a melancholic beauty, like a solitary landscape in the night.

Benson leaned in, gently touching her lips before kissing her softly.

Yvonne turned her face slightly, trying to avoid his touch.

Her heart was filled with complex emotions, difficult to express in simple words.

She felt a growing tension between her past coldness and Benson’s efforts, an unresolved contradiction. “Are you not going to ask why I didn’t leave?”

Benson’s voice carried a hint of teasing and impatience, his eyes holding a bit of expectation, as she would ask.

“Go wherever you want.” Yvonne’s voice was cold, tinged with irritation.

She had been angry during their earlier conversation, not wanting to argue with him any longer. However, now her emotions were even more tangled.

if hoping

She sensed that her previous indifference clashed with Benson’s persistence, creating a conflict that seemed impossible to resolve.

Benson’s sunk costs were too high; losing her made him feel like he was being taken advantage of.

His eyes showed a determined refusal to accept defeat, clearly unwilling to let go of this relationship easily.

For him, this was a deal he couldn’t afford to lose.
