Jana's

POV

I woke up slowly and knew that Alexei had been in our house. I left my room and checked the main part of the house. Nothing had been moved. I headed into the kitchen to grab something to drink. I was sick to death of having to get my fix from these stupid blood bags. The only time we were allowed to kill was only an animal that we were hunting. That was it. There was nothing like the rush we get from drinking from a human or a wolf. That was a pleasure that I really missed. It was the worst part of living here. Their fear as we drank from them was what I missed most. Seeing how they killed the rest of our group, Anika and I would have been fools to admit that we were as bad as the rest of them. Alexei and Dmitry had "saved" us, and we were not about to waste the opportunity. I have never seen such strong vampires in my life. Coming here and learning about them was very educational. I wanted Alexei as soon as I realized that he was royalty. Mating with him would make me stronger, a lot stronger. Once, I bore his mark.

I would have everything I ever wanted at that time. Respect, power, and money were there for the taking. The problem was that Alexei didn't want me. I tried so many times, but he wasn't interested. That has never happened to me before. I am very attractive and made special friends with some of the other vampires that patrolled with us. The important ones here in the coven stayed to themselves. Always training and trying to improve themselves. Thinking they were so much better than the rest of us. Fuck them. Who cares if they have powers? They could still be killed, just like I could.

I knew that Alexei would never allow me near his mate. I knew I had a tail following me, and I am sure I will have a tail tonight. But I will leave the bitch alone for a few days. They will all expect me to come after her again, but they will all be waiting for nothing. They expect it, so I need to wait a week or two before I go after her again. There would be a real issue if I killed her. I am just going to have to try to scare her away. If she leaves, I can't be punished. It will show him that he was not worth the risk to her. I will then remind him that it is worth the risk for me to be his. One way or another, he is going to be mine.

I checked my phone and saw a message from Phillip. He was always up for a good time, and I must admit, he made it very worthwhile. Plus, I owe him. He was the one who pointed me towards her little house in the woods. I told him I would gladly meet him in our usual place. He replied that his sister wanted to talk to me at the armory before we got to our business. Now, that piqued my interest. I didn't even know his sister, so what in the hell does she want to talk to me about?

Probably friends with that Cara girl. Well, too bad for her if she is, I will not let Cara off easy. Alexei is mine. My dalliance with Phillip isn't serious, but of all the men around here, he was the best so far. I usually don't allow a mutt to touch me, but I needed something more than what I had been getting. I knew that trying for a stronger-ranked member of the coven would alert Alexei, so I avoided them. I was desperate when I went onto their pack lands. I had just been looking for one of them who was brave enough to want to fuck me.

Phillip was more endowed and more aggressive in our encounters. That made it better for me personally. I even considered letting him be mine if this thing with Alexei couldn't be salvaged. Phillip laughed when I told him that I was willing to be his. That was very insulting to me, as I knew that they interacted with vampires more regularly than an average pack did. He should have been fucking thankful I would even consider lowering myself to be willing to be with him. Even if I didn't love him, he should have realized that what I offered him was much more than he deserved.

If he wasn't one of the best lovers that I have had, I wouldn't have even made the offer in the first place. He was a fuckboy, and I knew that I wasn't the only one. I smelled some of the she-wolves scents on him when he came to me. I should have known that he wouldn't settle down. He was having too much fun right now. He told me that after he turned twenty-six, he would start to look for his mate. He is twenty-three now and doesn't plan to stop for a while.

I heard a knock on our door, and we never get visitors, so this is unusual. Our house was built with no windows. As we were both fledglings, we couldn't take direct sunlight, so this was our home until we could get an upgrade. Just three doors were built in our house. One is in the front, one is at the back, and one is at the side to use in emergencies. Anika also heard the knock and came out of her room to look at me. Silently questioning me if I was expecting anyone. I shook my head, but I wasn't either.

She walked across to open it and immediately stepped back to allow them to enter. I watched as Dmitry entered, followed by Ivan and then Alexei. I knew why they were there and smirked. I guess she told him.

"Anika, we need to speak to you and Jana. We have some questions for you both," Dmitry stated before walking over to stand next to me. It was clear why they were here, but since Anika didn't know, I was going to play ignorant, too.

"Anika, I need to know if you are involved in what Jana did?" Alexei surprised me by starting off the questions.

"I don't know what she did. What is going on?" She asked. We were friends, but I didn't involve her in my plan to eliminate Alexei's mate. I assumed that I could do it all on my own.

"I have met my mate. Jana here, who cannot seem to accept my rejection of her advances, tried to kill her today," Alexei told her, and her gasp of shock let them know that she was not involved. Alexei studied her for a moment before saying, "Don't let Jana's actions get you kicked out of my coven. I would suggest avoiding her for the next week. I have another place for you to live if you want to move. If you believe you can keep from assisting Jana, it will probably spare your life,"

Now, it was time for me to gasp. He just implied that he was willing to kill me over a disgusting witch. "Wait just a minute. You do not have any proof of me doing anything. I came home before the sun was up. I swear I didn't do anything. I don't even know who your mate is, Alexei. I saw people when I returned, Polina can vouch for me, I know I saw her. I have done nothing wrong," I cried out in fear. I have seen Alexei in action. The look currently on his face told me that he would end me and not think a thing about it. I felt fear curling up in my stomach at the threat. Neither Ivan nor Dmitry blinked an eye at what he said. They already knew and didn't care if my life was now on the line.

"Oh, but you are wrong, Jana. Cara's mother was there the whole time. You were either too focused on Cara or weak to sense her, but you were seen. Her mother is ready to end you. Did you honestly think you could get away with it and not be seen? Think again. Cara being alone was a trap. I saw what you did. Not only did you break the Coven's rules, but you also broke the rules that Black Adder has. Do you think that you can do whatever you want? I saw you rush her and could not get past her shield. I watched as you lost your temper and tried repeatedly. You won't get another chance at her. I will escort her, or her mother will, from now on. You lost, Jana," Alexei told me.

"I have wanted you for years, Alexei. Why can't you accept me? I am a vampire. I am willing to accept you for the rest of my life. What makes Cara better than me? I'm attractive, too. It would not be a hard life. Why can't you give me a chance to make you happy?" I asked him with a sob. Everything was ruined. All my plans and wishes were crushed. For what? I am just as good as her. I need a reason why.

"I love her, Jana. She is my mate, and I love everything about her. I have never cared for you more than as the leader of this coven. You have caused me problems for the last time. I am trying to find a coven who will take you in, but it is difficult. Your behavior while you have been here is unacceptable. You thrive on chaos, and I can see now that I probably should have ended you with the rest of your feral friends. It was a mistake that I am still paying for. You have probably sealed the fate for the next few outings we have. I will be much less likely to believe anyone else in the future," Alexei told me.

His words cut through me like a knife. They hurt, as I had truly wanted him. I have for years, only to find out that he never liked me from the start. He rescued us because he believed what we had told him. I think he knew that we were all trying to kill that witch. I know why he wants to get rid of me now. We wanted to drink from the witch to get her powers. Now that he has a witch, he worries about us doing that to her. He should be because I will deal with her before I am forced out. I swear it.

"Is there anything I can do to keep from being thrown out?" I begged. I didn't want to leave. Life is much harder outside this coven. I won't make it alone, and they all knew it.

"No, you are done here, as far as I am concerned. Don't play innocent. I have evidence and will present it when it is time for you to leave. There is not anything innocent about you. Your own actions are the only reason this is happening to you. Not mine or anyone else's. Stop pretending that you can change. It is an impossibility at this time," Alexei told me.

"Anika, make sure you don't get pulled into her plans. You will be thrown out along with her if you do," Dmitry's strong voice rang through the house. They all turned and left our home, and the silence was deafening. There was nothing left to say. Alexei made it absolutely clear he was done with me.
