Betrayed by My Pack – Wolfless Hybrids Escape -
Chapter 97 –
Paxton's
POV
The guards had told me that Lisa was there and raising hell. She got by them, and I will be having a discussion with them later about it. How in the hell did she even find out that they were here? I made sure that the warriors that Lisa liked to mess around with were not assigned to this detail for this very reason. Can they not do anything right? I was fuming by the time we arrived at the cells. The guards knew they were in trouble and had already tried to figure out who the leak was.
I arrived quietly, stayed just out of sight, and listened to their conversation. They were much smarter than she was, but they finally managed to convince her. Lisa had always been jealous of Cara. She had always blamed Cara for my having feelings for her. It was like Lisa was scared to admit that I was the one who wanted Cara, not vice versa. I believe that if she ever admitted it, she would have to accept it. That was something that she was not going to do.
I felt the tears on my t-shirt as Lisa almost ran into me. I knew that she cared for me much more than I ever cared for her. She was always worried about Brenna, Luna, or Cara taking her title away from her. I even agreed to give her the position if she would leave Cara alone. I thought I was protecting her from Lisa; instead, it made her hate her even more.
Cara never had any part of it, yet Lisa was always after Cara. I thought after she became the Luna, that she would ease up. But she seemed to double down. Deliberately hurting Cara and giving her the very worst jobs in the pack for her to do. War was coming, but they would never be leaving here. I don't care if the Council demands their release or not. They are here now, and I will die before I willingly give Cara up. I hadn't realized how much I had truly missed her until she left. Having her back makes me feel whole again. I won't allow her to leave again. "Why are you still here, Lisa? They do not concern you at all. If you are wise, you will forget they are here," I told her. She was still standing there crying, but when Cara saw me, she walked back over to the sisters against the far wall.
I smiled at the girls, amused they thought they would keep me or my men from entering their cell. Those pathetic cots will get crushed trying to keep us out. I had my men working hard to finish the house. We will be able to move them in there today. That means that we will get to sleep with them tonight. I am very excited about them getting to see it. The place looks great, and I know they will love it. I had spared no expense for them. I was surprised that she warned Lisa about the vampires. It won't matter. Lisa is already dead to me. I will deal with her later. "Did you really kidnap them from their mates, Paxton? Are they telling the truth?" Lisa seemed shocked.
"I returned them to their original pack. They belong here, Lisa. This is where they grew up and where they belong, so it is not kidnapping. They ran off for no reason. I just corrected things for them," I told her.
"Paxton, are you seriously going to put our pack at risk to hold them here against their will? Their mates will come from them. Do you even know who they are mated to? This could blow up in your face. Have you even thought this through?" Lisa angrily asked. "Since when do you care about the pack? You need to go home and forget you saw them. Don't mention it to anyone. What I, or my men, do is none of your business. You are just a symbol in the pack. You don't care about what happens to it. You have done nothing to help it grow since you became Luna. The only thing that you have successfully done here is bully others and spend my money. That's it. Now, suddenly, you are willing to be a proper Luna. Excuse me if I don't believe you," I scoffed.
"You never gave me the chance to learn. Your mother never liked me and wouldn't show me how to be your Luna. I was willing to learn. All I have ever wanted was to be by your side, Paxton. You're acting like I never tried. I did try for my first eight months as your Luna. You kept correcting me but never teaching me how to do the job correctly. If you and your parents refused to show me how to do the job. Whose fault is it? You accepted the deal I made with you. I showed up, Paxton until you drilled it into me that it didn't matter what I did. You had an issue with me being your mate. You should never have accepted the deal I made you," Lisa replied.
"I never wanted to accept the deal you made. I was only trying to protect Cara. I wish I had known that Brenna and Luna were already protecting her. What you did was low and underhanded. Yet you stand there acting like you are the victim here. Why do you think you would possibly be the victim? The only victim here is Cara. I didn't protect her like I should have. Which gave you the opportunity to hurt her. You are the one at fault. You knew I wanted her, you don't have to lie anymore now Lisa, just admit it," I ground out in anger.
"I did what I had to do in order to be your Luna. You knew what you were doing when you slept with me. You know that my parents wouldn't just look the other way. You were my first, and everything I did was in order to be your perfect Luna. But you never appreciated me. You only liked and accepted Cara. Even when I had her scrubbing the floors, you ignored me and were transfixed on her. I was your Luna, dressed up and looking beautiful, yet you never looked at me like you looked at her. Even when she was covered in filth. Well, guess what? The joke's on you now. How does it feel to care so much for someone, only to realize that they don't like you at all? Welcome to the club, asshole," Lisa cried out.
I have never seen her this pissed off ever before. I didn't even try to hold my laugh in. "Still trying to twist it all onto me, huh, Lisa? That is hilarious. You are officially the worst Luna for the Kamaria pack. Cara looks gorgeous no matter what she is doing. You could be draped in diamonds and fur and still not match up. You just don't get it. I would move heaven and earth for Cara. Just go away, Lisa. I don't want to look at you anymore. You should never have held the title, but I am ready to rectify it now," I harshly announced. Cara is about to become my Luna. She will be a thousand times better than Lisa ever was.
"You bastard! I hate you so much, Paxton. I am not going to make it easy on you. We'll see if you can get me to step down or not," Lisa loudly proclaimed before running away. Thank the Goddess she is now gone. I am sick of hearing her voice.
"Cara, I am happy to tell you that I built us a home. You get to move in there with us tonight. You will be able to live with your sisters. I hope that you will be able to let go of the previous mates you had. Soon, they will no long in the picture. When they arrive, we will make very sure of that. Once they are gone, we can then mark you as ours. I made sure that you three will love what we came up with. We decorated your rooms according to your tastes," I proudly told them.
I had hoped they would thaw a little toward us, hearing that we were making a great effort to ensure their happiness. Of course, a few of the extras were for us, too, like the large tubs for us to soak together and the large showers with the large ledge built in them. We want to be with them as much as possible. I hope once they see what we have done for them, they will understand how far we are willing to go to ensure their happiness.
They were all still staring in fear at us. How could they possibly fear us? Don't they know what we have done to get them back here to safety? They have known us all for a long time. Clay came here every break he had in school to hang out with me. We are not strangers to them at all. You wouldn't know it to look at them now. Fear is the only emotion showing on their faces. I didn't want them to be afraid of us. We worked so hard to get them back to us. That should count for something.
"Brenna, you know us. There is no reason to fear us. Rex loves you, and he will take excellent care of you. There is no reason to try to keep us from you. Don't you realize the extent of what we have done to get you back? We have gone against a strong pack to get you back. That should show you the lengths that we are willing to go to. I will have difficulties with the Council, but I did it for us, for you. Can you not see that?" I pleaded with them. Lisa is gone, so I have no reason to be mean anymore. I wanted them to trust us, to be happy with us. "Please, you didn't do this for us, Paxton. You did this all for yourselves. All because of your own lusts. We had finally found our mates, and we were all happy. Then you pulled this. You can't honestly expect us to be happy at your announcing that you would be killing our mates. We don't want to be here. We don't want to be your mates. We don't want to play house with you. We know why you did it like you did. You wanted to keep us away from anyone who might be willing to help us. It will only be a house of horrors for us. If you think that we are not aware that you will be attempting to rape us, you are mistaken. We plan on fighting you every step of the way," Cara boldly stated as she looked into my eyes.
"We did this for love," I told her, bewildered at how she could say such a thing.
"You did this for lust, so don't try to lie to us. You can't fool us; we know exactly what you did. You three colluded to kill our parents, all in order to have your way with us. How could we ever feel any affection towards the men who murdered our parents? We will fight you until our last breaths. Clay made up the plan. You told Rex to carry it out, and he did. Did I miss anything?" Cara yelled. How in the hell did she know that? We had sworn that we would take that secret to the grave.
