Blurred Lines 1: CHASE -
Chapter 108
Chase
Sofia might have a point," Rafa said. After my conversation with Sofia, I met him for a run the following day. "Vincent's place was empty. It's like they were expecting someone to go to his place." "You didn't get anything? Not even a f*****g clue where he went?" I asked, my irritation clawing its way out of my chest. I felt like we were being treated like a pawn in this game.
Although my annoyance wasn't directed at Rafa, he flinched at my outburst. We paused from running. We were following the trail on the riverside, and it was our second lap. The sun wasn't up yet, but the morning had already lit up everything around us. Since it was Sunday, the place was a bit more crowded.
"Nothing." Rafa explained. "The place was wiped clean. But Sean took a few things from the house. Computer, receipts and some pictures. He said he'd take them to Joe, and if something came out, he'd call you."
"Sofia suggested someone must be orchestrating this shit." "Kenzo?"
"No. Someone bigger than Kenzo."
Rafa pondered on it. "That's fucked up, but there's a huge possibility. We might be looking at this the wrong way. Maybe Kenzo is also a pawn in this scheme. I think we should wait for them to make another move. Whoever is behind this will show himself if Sofia's assumption is right."
"Too many fucking maybe, don't you think? I don't like it, Rafa... What the f**k have I done in the past to deserve this shit?"
"You've done a lot of shitty things, Chase," Rafa squeezed my shoulder. "But you deserve a second chance."
I sighed. He's right. That's the problem. I've done tons of shitty things, and I don't know which of them is hunting me to this day. Why now? My life had been peaceful for almost a decade.
Loud giggles coming our way cut our conversation short. Rafa halted when one of the three teenage girls approaching us intentionally bumped him. She looked up at him shyly, batting her lashes, murmuring a timid 'sorry!
"It's cool," Rafa grunted, skirting past the girls and jogging to where I waited for him. My best friend sighed, and shook his head. "Girls."
I chuckled, receiving a pointed glare from him. "What?" I shrugged. "You've always had a nick for young girls."
"I'm done with girls. I already found my woman." We paused at the wooden platform extended towards the river, a wooden railing encompassing it. The water was calm, reflecting the pastel glow of the slow-climbing sun. Four elderly ladies were stretching on one corner of the platform. They caught sight of us, murmuring something to one another, and giggled.
Note to never take this trail on weekends again. Or better yet, I should've asked Sofia to come with me. My insides knotted, remembering what she did last night. It was the first time she took the lead in the bedroom. It's the first time I submitted to a woman, and fuck if I wanted to do it again.
Rafa pulled out his phone, frowning as he read something on it. His frown morphed into a scowl, typing furiously. I could practically see smoke coming out of his nose and ears. He shoved his phone in his short's pocket, jaw clenching. "What?"
"It's Georgia," he grumbled. "Something came up again - and canceled our lunch." He clenched his fist and faced the waters, "I don't know what to do anymore. Giving her space didn't work. Now there's this mile-wide wall she'd put between us, and she wouldn't even let me cross it. We were both hurt when she lost the baby. Not only her. It's my baby too."
"She blames herself for it, Rafa," I said, careful with my words.
This has been a sensitive topic for all of us. Only Georgia knows what she feels, but Rafa's feelings are valid. "I gave her time. I gave her space. I don't know what she wants from me. I already bared my heart out and told her I still love her."
"She wanted you to move on." Rafa flinched. "And she thought you already did when you gave her space."
Because she asked me for space, man!" The ladies in the corner darted their eyes in our direction. "F**k." He reked his fingers through his Hair
I approached Rafa, patting his shoulder. "Sofia has a plan."
"What is she planning? Look us inside a room and hope we'd kiss and make up?" he said dejectedly,
My lips pressed on a hardine because that was actually Sofia's plan, Plain and simple.
Rafa chuckled. "That won't work. I just know it won't. I know Georgia. She'll throw a fit, and she might hate me more, Sofin included."
We walked back onto the trail and headed to our cars. "Bofia knows Georgia longer than you. You two might have been in a relationship, but don't women know how a woman's mind works? Just chill for a bit." "What else can I do? I don't want to force Georgia if she doesn't want to see me."
Rafa was so fucking selfless for his own good. If I were in his shoes, I would force Georgia to talk to me. Slap me if she needs to, take her anger and frustration out on me. Not all wounds would heal with time, and she had avoided facing Rafa long enough Georgia was a stubborn woman who needed to cut Rafa some slack. But speaking my mind about this topic was not necessary. At least not yet, so I shut my mouth and asked Rafa if he wanted to come with me and meet Adrian, Derek's dog trainer friend, I called in a favor last night if he could bring Hunter to the mansion. We were supposed to meet him in the dog training facility, but I'd rather stay with my girls.
Taking Hunter out of the facility took longer than I expected. We were in a convoy of three cars when we returned to the mansion. I was excited to see Elise's reaction when she sees Hunter.
"Princess?" I called, stepping inside the mansion. I asked Rafa to lead Adrian to the backyard along with Hunter. I bet it'll be love at first sight.
I found my girls in the kitchen. Elise was eating her bowl of fruits. But my eyes were instantly glued to Sofia. Her eyes were misting when they met mine.
F**k.
She thought I left her again.
"Daddy!" Elise jumped from her seat. She was still in her unicorn onesie, holding Jessie in one arm as she ran to my arms. I caught her, kissing her forehead. Her disheveled blond curls tickled my face as I peppered her cheeks with kisses.
I met Sofia's eyes. She was leaning against the sink counter, biting down on her lip. I can't help but smile at how cute she looked, trying to hide her relief at seeing me. She wore a blue kimono with big lilies print, a belt securing it around her tiny waist. Her hair was tied in a messy bun and her face was bare of make up.
"I got something for you, Princess," I said, setting Elise down on her feet. Her big blue eyes widened. She always loved surprises.
"What is, Daddy?" She bounced on her heels, curls tumbling in waves over her face.
I chuckled. "It's in the backyard."
Without another glance, she darted from the kitchen and opened the sliding door leading to the backyard. Her squeal nearly busted my eardrums. Like she had a spring on her heels, Elise barrelled towards Hunter, the puppy sitting patiently between Adrian and Rafa.
Hunter was a one-year-old Belgian Malinois. Adrian had already taught him a few tricks, but was wagging his tail as Elise kneeled in front of him. Adrian had mentioned that Hunter was one of his best dogs. He shows patience and attentiveness even at such a young age.
Of course, I called in a lot of favors so we could get Hunter. The name even fits Elise's future dog she and Julian were saving up for.
I nodded at Adrian, signaling him to teach my daughter how to take good care of Hunter. He'd be coming over for the next week until Hunter gets settled with his new environment, until our home becomes his..
Once I was sure that Elise was all settled with Hunter and Adrian, I turned to my fiancee, who still wore that disinterested mask on her face.
She busied herself wiping the kitchen counter. It was already squeaky clean. The sunlight beam passing through the glass panel above the sink glowed on the granite top.
I came up behind her and wrapped my arms around her waist, coconut, and lavenders filling my senses.
"Good morning," I kissed the side of her head.
"Good morning," she replied, wiggling out of my hold. "Coffee?" She stood before the coffee maker, sticking a pod into the machine.
"How about a kiss?" I asked and walked behind her, wrapping my arms around her again. When she wiggled free from my hold, I gripped her hips and spun her around to face me. I trapped her with my body against the counter. "Kiss..." I stick out my lower lip. She avoided my gaze and bit her lower lip.
"Baby..." I nudged her cheek with my nose like a dog would its owner. "Kiss."
Sofia's brows knitted together, and she glared at me, clearly fighting a smile from breaking off her lips.
I skimmed her neck with my nose, torturing myself in the process. She smelled so sweet, yet I could
be myself on her and sex. Wild, wild sex, which we had last night. F**k!
She hasn't showered yet, and I'm filthy from the run. An idea kicked in.
"Chase!" Sofia squealed, her hands automatically wrapping around my neck when I scooped her up bridal style. "Put me down!"
Her protest fell on deaf ears. I took the stairs two steps at a time and kicked our bedroom door shut. In the bathroom, I opened the shower head and set her on her feet. Her shriek filled the shower enclosure. The icy cold water hit us overhead. She narrowed her eyes at me, but I pinned her on the shower wall, smashing my lips on hers.
"You thought I'd repeat my mistake?" I grunted, pressing my lower region on her hip bone. This woman could make me hard with her glare. How the f**k is that even possible? "I met Rafa for a run and got our little princess Hunter."
She pressed her hands on my chest. I gripped her wrist and pinned them above her head with one hand, untying the belt of her kimono. Water pelted her pink silk sleepwear, drenching the sheer fabric by the second. I grew harder as the downpour made her dress transparent. Her nipples were punching against the material.
I want to wrap my lips around those peaks, but I must wash away her worries first.
"Sorry for not telling you," I murmured against her neck, licking her skin. "It took longer than I thought."
She shook her head. "I didn't-"
I pinned her with an intense stare. She lowered her eyes to my chest, my shirt clinging to my skin.
"You had that look again, Sofia. We're in this together. I won't make a move without telling you first, okay?"
She met my gaze, vulnerability and uncertainty clear in her eyes.
I sighed and pressed our foreheads together; the water was warming up. "Should've trusted you. That was my mistake. But you trusted me, despite my shortcomings. I'm keeping my promise. I won't make the same mistake again, okay?"
She nodded; this time, I could see the relief washing over her features like the water washing away the evidence of my morning run.
"Sorry for thinking of the worst, Chase. I thought you went out again with Eros or Carlota." She nibbled her lower lip. "You've been doing that these last couple of days. Leaving early and coming home so late."
"I know, baby," I gripped her jaw, my other hand still cuffing her wrist above her head. "But after our conversation last night, I'd be a fool not to confide in you. Some sentences are incomplete if you are not reading this novel on FindNovel.net. Visit FindNovel.net to read the complete chapters for free. You gave me a new perspective. Rafa thinks that whoever is behind this will come to me in the coming days and show himself. We have to be ready for that."
Sofia stiffened, fear crossing her face. Fuck. Maybe it wasn't the ideal place to tell her about Rafa's assumption.
"But for now, let me enjoy this day with my girls, okay?" I kissed her lips. "Starting by enjoying your body."
