Blurred Lines 1: CHASE -
Chapter 76
-Chase-
Mom swore that living on the seaside would make her life longer. It improves her heart rate; the air isn't polluted, and the salt water has healing properties.
She might be right, I thought as my Nike dug deep into the sands with each dash. As the cool morning breeze assaulted my hair, my sleeveless shirt clung to my sweaty skin.
I ran my fingers through my hair, catching my breath. I've been out running since four in the morning.
I couldn't sleep, not because of the nightmares, but because Sofia was here. She arrived in Rio yesterday. It was f*****g hard to keep my hands off her. Last night, we were pretty loud. I'm sure mom heard us through the hallway. I wanted to keep her all to myself, but mom was proving to be a tough competition.
It had been six months since we made things official, six months of a torturous long-distance relationship. I swear, my pilot, Arthur, is already fed up with flying me to Boston every weekend.
Sofia volunteers to fly to Rio every other week, but I know how tiring flying can be. Somehow, we made a long-distance relationship work, but if I could make things easier for her, I would.
Sofia and mom were drinking coffee on the patio when I came back to the house. I watched them through the glass panel in the kitchen. They were the epitome of a mother and daughter gossiping in the morning. I tried to keep up with their conversation once and never tried again. Those two make a good tandem for a talk show.
After drinking water, I went to my room and showered. Laughter drifted through the house when I came out of my room.
Mom and Sofia were in the kitchen now, preparing breakfast.
"Morning, Ma." I kissed mom on the cheek, picking a grape from the salad she was dressing. "Aw!"
She swatted my hand. "Did you wash your hands?" she used that motherly tone, the one she had used since I was seven.
I groaned, glaring at her playful smile. She likes to scold me like a child when Sofia is around. Sofia giggled as she continued setting the table.
I circled the kitchen island and wrapped my arms around her from behind, kissing her cheeks. If mom wasnt here, I would have thrown her over the table and ripped her oversized t-shirt. "Morning, babe."
"Hi." She turned and tucked her hair behind her ears, biting her lip. She glanced over my shoulder- peering at mom - before standing on the tip of her toes and crushing our mouths together.
It was a peck, but I wanted more. My grip on her waist tightened enough to make her moan. "We got company," she whispered, slapping my chest playfully. A coy smile played on her lips.
"We would be alone if you only chose my place," I smiled, sliding a hand down her b**t cheek, squeezing her perfect globes.
'Fuck, I want to have her for breakfast instead.
"Stop..." she giggled when I rained kisses on her face.
She melts into me, holding my shoulder as I give her a soft, gentle kiss. It doesn't take long before we get lost in each other's touch, the world fading in the background.
Sofia pulled away, eyes glazed over, when she felt my c**k twitching between us. "Chase..."Squeezed her a*s once more and pulled a chair for her. "We stay in my place tonight, temptress."
Her shoulders went rigid, but I couldn't help it. Spending two nights with her is not enough to quench my thirst for her.
Mom sets the salad on the table, giving Sofia no chance to respond.
After breakfast, I had to answer a few emails and calls. I have been busy since the Fortaleza coffee plantation expanded to export coffee. There's still a lot of work to be done before Maria Clara Coffee can fully penetrate the international market, but this one is mine. I didn't inherit it from dad, and it's fulfilling to see it thrive.
Some emails cannot be helped. I wanted to clear my weekend schedule for Sofia, but if she had learned that I ignored emails and called for her, I wouldn't hear the end of it.
I wanted to finish early, but it was past one in the afternoon when I wrapped everything up.
I stepped into the living room and looked through the floor-to-ceiling roll-away window. Mom and Dad were sitting comfortably on the patio. Sofia was watching them from the sofa. Her back was on me. She was aware of my presence. My footsteps weren't light. Circling the sofa, I plonked beside her, pulling her by the waist until she sat on my lap.
"Why are you perving on my parents?" I nuzzled my face into the crook of her neck.
"Clara said she's gonna give Diego an answer today," she whispered like it was a secret no one must hear. Dad seemed to make progress with mom. I didn't help him in any way. He was patient, bringing mom flowers, fruits, and gifts every weekend. He was truly persistent when he wanted to be.
"Yeah?" I lift my face from sniffing her neck. She always smelled so good there.
She nodded, glancing over my shoulder. "I think they're going to have their happy ending.
My face scrunched. Being in love was one thing, but happy endings still sounded sappy. "What?" Sofia asked.
"I hate happy endings," I said, and her nose scrunched. "I hate endings, is all," I corrected. Sometimes my mouth runs on its own without a f*****g filter. I had to remember that Sofia is the romantic type who still believes in fairytales. "Oh," she considered my words. "Me too. But endings are beginnings, too, you know. Like starting a new chapter."
"Well, I hope mom and dad start this new chapter in their life now. They've been apart for so long." I looked far into the other side of the wall. Our first family picture hangs along the many portraits mom put up there. It was taken last Christmas, the first Christmas I spent with a complete family.
"Me too." Sofia tucked her head under my chin, circling her arms around my waist. "I'm happy you finally have a whole family, Chase." There was a pinch of emotion in her tone. "It's different, isn't it?"
Having a girlfriend that understands me beyond words is a plus. Sofia is an amazing woman, but the history we had, what she knew about me, and how she accepted my past are things no woman could live up to.
"It is," I said, cupping her chin. "I've never been happier, Sofia. And I owe it all to you. You taught me how to let my anger go and let the past stay in the past."
She held my eyes for a beat longer before reaching up, trapping my face in her warm palms. "It's not me, Chase. That was all you. You freed yourself from all the regret and pain. I'm just here to hold your hand every step of the way."
There was so much emotion in her eyes. Adoration, love, longing, need... I'm finding it hard to cope with how lucky I am to call this woman mine.
"Oh, look," she gasped, eyes trained over my shoulder.
I twisted on the waist just in time for dad to draw Mom in his arms for a kiss. I groaned, wanting to wash my eyes with bleach.
"I did not need to see that," I groaned.
Sofia giggled, pinching my cheeks. "Aw, come on. Don't they look cute?"
My face crumpled in disgust.
"Come on, let's get out of their hair." I set Sofia on her feet. "Get dressed before those two start to
rip their clothes off!" I said and slapped her b**t. She squealed, running up the stairs while I trailed behind her.
