Born Almighty Warrior -
Chapter 604 A Change In Opinion
Ricky and his companions didn't stop Edward from leaving. However, Edward's words continued to cloud their thoughts. They couldn't help but think about the Birthplace of Ghosts over and over again.
Perhaps the greatest opportunity in the Land of Ghosts could be found in the Birthplace of Ghosts. Soar queried, "Did he tell us the truth?" The shock in his eyes had just begun to fade. "Could it be that Martin has already figured out the whereabouts of the Birthplace of Ghosts?" By now, Soar was already over his initial confusion and had now shifted his focus to trying to decipher Martin's game plan.
"Only the brave one can discover whether he told the truth or not," Terrence replied solemnly. "Some of the elders from the Nanchao Clan once told us that there were certain restrictions in the Birthplace of Ghosts. On the other hand, I have never seen or heard of any restriction which can't be broken by a middle spiritual king,” Samson imparted to his companions dubiously.
"You don't have to stress yourself out with that little prick's words. I have to go to the Birthplace of Ghosts, and I'll accept Martin's invitation," Ricky retorted with urgency and impatience in his tone of voice. "Even if we refuse his invitation, I'm sure Martin will get there one way or another. Once he obtains something from the Birthplace of Ghosts, our safety will be compromised.”
"I guess Martin already knew that we would rise to the challenge and give in to his bait,” Terrence pointed out. "That being the case, we might as well showcase our bravery.”
"I'm really looking forward to kicking their asses!"
Their conversation was interrupted when they all noticed something above them. They looked up at a piece of beast hide floating in midair. It was left there by Edward before he departed.
The map of the Birthplace of Ghosts was clearly shown on the beast hide
Having made up his mind, Ricky stretched out his hand and grasped the beast hide in his hands. "They told us about the restrictions in the Birthplace of Ghosts. Thus, there is no need for us to hurry. What we should do instead is wait for the Enlightening Fruits to ripen. Then, we will refine the energy we can harness from them. From there, we will explore any other items lying around the area that can be highly advantageous to us,” Ricky specified calmly. He had already calculated what their next possible move could be in preparation for Martin's plan.
The decisive battle between Ricky's and Martin's teams finally came.
Martin and Duncan weren't capable of imposing any serious threat to Ricky and his friends. Nonetheless, their lack of intimidation did not stop Ricky from wondering about the kind of surprises or traps Martin and his henchmen had prepared for them.
'l just hope you two suckers won't disappoint me. The moment I get out of the Land of Legacy, I will hunt you down. I'll make sure that you, along with the entire Golden Leopard Valley and the Golden Rhino tribe won't go unpunished, * Ricky thought to himself with gritted teeth.
Terrence agreed with Ricky's arrangement. Although they desperately wanted to find out whether Martin was truthful to them or not, they also knew deep down they shouldn't do anything before first ensuring their safety. Currently, the best option they had to ensure their safety was to prioritize the refinement of the Enlightening Fruits.
"Samson. First of all, I must remove the tracking powder from you and your sister. Please forgive me for my boldness," Ricky told Samson and Carley as he turned to face them.
In order to help get rid of the tracking powder, he would have to expose his power and capabilities. Regardless, he didn't want to be tracked and followed by his enemies all the time.
Edward told them the tracking powder could only work for a span of three months. Since Ricky didn't believe whatever came from his mouth, he might as well remove the tracking powder while he had the time to do so.
"What?" Samson responded in astonishment.
Even Terrence suddenly got confused by Ricky's sudden proposal. If what Edward said was, indeed, the truth, then the tracking powder could not be removed by force. They would have to wait for at least three months before the powder would begin losing its effect.
"Ricky, are you sure you can do that?" Terrence questioned, his face filled with excitement and skepticism. Even he wanted to get rid of the spying tail annoyingly and sneakily lagging behind him. "Well, I can give it a shot!" Ricky tried reassuring his companions.
"Is there anything we can do?" Samson asked expectantly. If Ricky was capable of ridding off the tracking powder from them, then he'd be glad to assist him however way they could. He did not admit it openly, but he did feel the confidence in Ricky's words.
Besides, getting along with Ricky in the past few days, Samson had also come to know more about the ace genius. He felt a strong, solid trust that Ricky knew what he was doing.
"The two of you, just hold your breaths and concentrate. No matter what kind of power or force I push into your bodies, don't fight. Do you understand? I understand it's unfair for you. But you have to trust me and help me with this," Ricky said, trying to convince Samson and his sister.
"Is this really safe?” Samson was now beginning to show signs of doubt.
While Ricky had already gained Samson's confidence and trust, the thought of doing not even the least bit of resistance as their bodies received an outside force was a little too much to take. What if, albeit unintentional, something poisonous was mixed into whatever it was that Ricky would be pushing into them?
In the end, Samson was as quick to shake off his doubts as he was to entertain his initial fears. He and Carley decided to take the risk and give Ricky the go-signal to do what should be done.
"Thank you for trusting me," Ricky said briskly with a big smile on his face. It felt good to finally be trusted...especially by the siblings. He knew they had a rough beginning, and he always wanted to show them that he never meant nor willed for anything bad to happen to their beloved clan.
"I must make myself clear first. I'm doing this only because I don't like being tracked by that bastard, Martin,” Samson said. "I get that." Ricky laughed. "At least we share the same feeling towards that jackass.
Besides, I think you've already changed your opinions about me...something I'm a little proud of." Ricky didn't like being painted with the wrong image, especially to the people he cared about. Having asked permission first, Ricky borrowed strength from the Devourer Zone and the devouring runes. Next, he poured all the strength he borrowed into the bodies of Samson and Carley. As he did so, he carefully searched for traces of the tracking powder. By using the Devourer Zone, Ricky had successfully found the marks left by the Luxurious Chamber of Commerce on the spiritual weapons. This was starting to seem easier than he expected. How could he not find the tracking power invented by the less intelligent people from the Golden Leopard Valley?
Ricky went on and continued searching. Several minutes later, he located what appeared to be suspiciously golden powder residing near their hearts.
The golden power seemed to have grown its own claws and clung tightly to the two people's hearts. Worse than that, Ricky could feel the hidden toxins emanating amid the intense power.
The toxins were slowly corrupting Samson's and Carley's hearts. Ricky had no idea of the possible and horrible consequences of being exposed to the toxins. All he knew was that he had to make haste before the toxins fully took over the siblings’ minds, hearts and bodies.
"Son of a bitch!" Ricky cursed, frustrated and furious.
"Ricky? What's going on there!?" Madeline called out. She felt her heart sink to her stomach with worry.
Over the time that they had recently spent together, Madeline had developed a closer bond with them. As such, she couldn't help but feel a little more scared for them upon seeing the solemn and furious expression painted all over Ricky's face. She wanted Samson and Carley to be safe and sound.
"The tracking powder is scattered around their hearts," Ricky answered bluntly. He knew it was a critical situation, but this was also not the perfect time to sugarcoat things.
"Do you think you can remove it?" Madeline furrowed her eyebrows and clenched her chest. Samson's and Carley's bodies were no average constitutions. They had also been trained like warriors, which meant that their bodies had also toughened up over time. Still, that did not make up for how vulnerable their hearts were.
"It's more complicated than what I thought. The tracking powder is poisonous and their hearts have already been poisoned. I'm not sure if I can successfully remove those toxins from their hearts without seriously injuring them as a consequence or threatening their safety,” Ricky painfully replied. He never imagined Martin would be this tricky and brutal.
"What the fuck! That twisted bastard! That is simply unforgivable!" Madeline, Soar and Terrence all cursed after hearing the bad news that Ricky just relayed to them. If only the killing intent they all had for Martin could merge together and stab him right now, on the spot, then they could at least finally bring justice to what Samson and Carley had to suffer.
Gradually, Samson's and Carley's appearance took on a frailer and paler complexion. Samson was tougher and the toxins in his heart could barely scare him. However, Carley had a weak heart. The prospect of a young death filled her beautiful eyes with glassy, melancholic tears.
"Ricky, have you really run out of ideas? Can't you do something to save them?" Madeline asked fretfully. She was already so close to panicking and throwing a fit.
"Don’t worry. I'll do my best. Even if I fail to remove all the toxins from their hearts, I will find a way to prevent the toxins from spreading and taking a more serious effect. Once we get out of this place, I will figure out a cure for these damned toxins,” Ricky answered calmly. He was thankful that his voice didn't shake one bit, for he was trying so hard not to be consumed by the fear that he might fail the siblings, Madeline, and the rest of his companions. It would be an eternal nightmare for him if he were to calculate things wrongly and end up taking the siblings’ lives in the process.
