Chapter 729 The Celestial Army's Mission
"Soul replication! Impressive!" Ricky exclaimed to himself. His expression went blank, unable to register the shock.
He was already surprised to find that replication of blood and flesh was possible. Going farther beyond that to accomplish even soul replication was a formidable feat. He was astonished. It was like an addiction. One successful soul replica would be exceptional enough for the real body to disregard their life.
Giddy with anticipation, Ricky looked at the new information with the same sparkling eyes of a child. He was beyond excited to know all about the fourth phase.
However, as he finished absorbing the information for the first three phases, he found the fourth phase empty.
"The fourth part regarding soul replication is missing," said Ricky, his brows quirked up in confusion. It was understandable that such a formidable cultivation method wouldn't be leaked to the world that easily.
“Maybe the Endless Shadow has hidden the fourth phase in its base, * Ricky thought to himself. Hastily, he left the Shadow Mountains and headed straight for the Celestial Army's camp.
The Shadow King kept all the cultivation resources of the Endless Shadow in his storage ring. He also left behind treasures that Ricky wasn't particularly interested in.
With the Shadow King and the other innate spiritual kings dead, the Endless Shadow existed only in name. It wouldn't take long before the organization completely disappeared from the Realm of Wildness.
The organization had just lost the protection of their most powerful leaders. Other forces would seize upon this vulnerability to destroy it once and for all.
.. As soon as Ricky returned to the Celestial Army's camp, he greeted Connor with a small nod, but he didn't stop his march. He swept past towards his cultivation place. The only clear thought in his mind was the desire to dive into the Shadowy Emperor Replication.
"Sir, he must have solved the problem if he's back. That's incredible! He killed Shadow King and his cronies all by himself!" Luke, a deputy leader of the Celestial Army, gasped as his eyes followed Ricky's hurried form.
"Within a large continent, it is possible that there are a few geniuses like him. He killed the Shadow King and the other spiritual kings and is now cultivating in seclusion. Go spy on him,” Connor commanded, narrowing his eyes in suspicion.
"Yes, sir! On my way!" Luke nodded and, without another word, walked out of the palace.
"The time has come. We're leaving this bleak space after we finish the last mission. It's finally the time for me to rise to fame," Connor murmured excitedly when he was left alone.
However, half a day later, Luke came back. He wore a dismayed expression on his face.
"What's going on?" Connor asked, louder than he intended. He saw Luke's face and knew he brought bad news with him.
"Sir, I've collected the fortune of most spiritual kings of the Endless Shadow, but I couldn't find the Shadow King's fortune. Reports confirm his death though. Is it because Yori knows what we are targeting?" Shuffling closer to his companion, Luke lowered his voice into a whisper to avoid prying ears.
"Really? That's odd. There is no way anyone could have known our true purpose. Neither Yori nor a more powerful spiritual king should have had access to our information," said Connor.
"And do you think the cultivators in the Misty South can collect the dead's fortune?”
"Then what should we do, sir? What is going on?" Luke asked, scratching his head as he did.
"The only explanation would be that the Shadow King was not from the Realm of Wildness." Connor's voice hitched as the realization dawned on him. Once the surprise wore off, he shrugged his shoulders.
"That doesn't matter anymore. His death carried little weight on our plan. Everything should be fine as long as we still have the chief of the Sky Manor. You have him heavily guarded. We're just one more month away from success.”
"Yes, sir!" Luke nodded grimly. He knew this was a gamble. They'd rise to fame if they won and they'd die if they failed.
"Alright, let's wait for another month and see,” said Connor.
A month passed quickly. During that month, news of the deaths of the Endless Shadow's spiritual kings spread throughout the Realm of Wilderness.
It shocked the whole world.
The warriors believed they died at the hands of the Celestial Army. They were the only force capable of the feat.
That was exactly the effect Ricky wanted.
The speculations on their deaths fell squarely on the Celestial Army. Ricky was eager to know how the Celestial Army would respond.
However, no matter how many speculations there were outside of the camp, the Celestial Army didn't give any explanations. Instead, they acted as if they didn't know what had happened.
'What do they want? They've been accused left and right, but they never tried to explain it. It looks like they're very close to the day they've been waiting for, ' Ricky thought to himself.
For the past month, Ricky had done more than just cultivation. He investigated the Celestial Army's purpose for being here. He worked cautiously, knowing Connor was a completed spiritual king. The progress he made was slow and limited. Thus, he hadn't found any useful information at all.
He had also gotten in touch with Soar using the Heaven Melting Fire. Soar and others were later teleported into the Chaotic Fire Zone. Ricky had a hunch that the Celestial Army would soon make their move.
He was neither surprised nor unprepared when Connor finally called him in.
'The storm is coming, * was the thought that ran through his mind.
His arrival at the palace was followed by another. The chief of the Casting Guild, the lord of the Imperial Palace of Wildness, and Scott came soon after him.
Fear etched into the faces of the chief of the Casting Guild and the lord of the Imperial Palace of Wildness. Both of them vividly remembered the Shadow King's death.
They were afraid the Celestial Army would end their lives in the same way.
"I need your help for what's to come. If we succeed, I'll even share the interest with you,” Connor laughed.
Excitement showed clearly on their faces at Connor's words. They dampened a moment later when both the chief of the Casting Guild and the lord of the Imperial Palace of Wildness remembered they could end up as cannon fodder if they weren't careful.
"What is it, sir?” The lord of the Imperial Palace of Wildness cleared his throat as he met Connor's eyes. It had taken him a lot of courage to ask.
"Huh, I can't tell you right now. I don't want to spoil the fun." Connor barked another harsh peal of laughter. A wicked amusement danced in his eyes.
In contrast, the faces of the chief of the Casting Guild and the lord of the Imperial Palace of Wildness turned grim. Their shoulders dropped, resigned. They were convinced that they would be punching bags in the coming fight, absorbing every attack that came their way.
"I know your concerns,” Connor said as he noticed their dreadful expressions.
"I'm sure what's coming next will dispel your anxiety."
