Butterscotch Souls – Chapter 5

Tia sent me on a mission to Montana. I was a bit annoyed honestly. She had just given me the new position as the head of training for the BOC, and then she sends me on a mission. I understand why she did it though.

This mission was something not just anyone could handle. After finding out was Max is and that the Gods are not happy with more Gods being born, especially Hybrid Gods, all of our most powerful people were out searching for more people like Max.

More Gods that didn’t know what they are or needed help to control their powers. As far as I knew we had found a couple but only one family was willing to work with us.

The Morrison family. Alpha Dean Morrison is the Alpha of one of the largest packs in the north. He shares a border with a large Canadian pack. His mate is a Goddess, something they did not realize until after they were mated. He has done a lot to protect her from what I hear.

Now they have four children. All of which are hybrids, half God, half Werewolf. I haven’t a clue about much more than that.

Tia sent me to Fort Benton, Montana. She claimed that there was some God-like activity going on here. Apparently she had sent a team but they found nothing.

Usually when that happened it was because of the Gods who were hunting down the innocent ones. We had found out that some of the Gods had started hunting the others down and it was starting to cause us all trouble.

So, Tia sent me knowing that I could handle myself.

We decided that it was best that I go alone. I was sure that as soon as I seen the culprits that I would know. Then I would handle it. They would either leave or fight me.

Either one I was fine with. Though I couldn’t help but wonder what they were doing here. If they really were the Gods hunting down the others than what were they doing here of all places?

From what the team Tia sent said, there were no Gods here, which means either someone knows how to hide or they are after someone else, something else.

I arrived at the hotel that Tia booked me, a few hours after she had dismissed me from her office. The lady at the front desk looked me up and down before giving me an overly cheerful smile. I faught the urge to roll my eyes.

“Good evening sir.” She said fluttering her eyelashes. “Checking in?” She asked.

I gave her a polite smile.

“Yeah, under Morningstar.” I told her.

Considering my mission here I wanted to flaunt my name. The sooner they know I am here the faster that I can get back home.

“Interesting last name.” The lady said.

I only nodded politely at her. It was honestly annoying to have women fawn over me everywhere I went. I am the spitting image of my father, only with blond hair instead of his raven black hair.

Everything else was the same though. Same huge build, same height, same bone structure. Something my father was very proud of. Whatever makes him happy I guess.

The lady handed me my keys and let me know what floor my room was on. I quickly took my exit before she could ask me out or anything else. Honestly, I hated being rude and I appreciated the interest, but I just didn’t want it.

My parents taught me to wait for my mate and I planned to. I’m a 20 year old man who has never even kissed a girl. It’s slightly pathetic but hopefully my mate doesn’t feel that way. I sure don’t let it bother me.

Though, the older I get the more I want to meet her, er, at least I think my mate is a her. I don’t think I’m into men.. I’ve heard from others that they didn’t think they were either, until they met their mates.

So, I guess I’ll just keep my options open.

Once I reached my room and entered inside I blew out a breath. I threw my bag on the bed and checked the room for bugs. The chances that someone bugged my hotel room when the reservation was made only hours ago was slim, but this is how I was trained. And I wouldn’t be a good trainer if I didn’t follow my own rules.

Something my dad taught me, never underestimate a situation. Usually you hear not to underestimate a person, which is also true, but Dad told me people often underestimate a situation and it causes trouble.

After checking that my room is clear I walked to the large window and peered out at the setting sun. At least this small town is pretty. The glow of the setting sun shone across the buildings giving them an almost empty look.

Let’s go out and explore. Kohen, my wolf said.

Guess we do have to lurk around for these assholes. I said to him.

Kohen huffed in agreement.

I looked myself over in the mirror. My plain black T-shirt stretched across my broad chest and my dark jeans hugged my thighs. My blonde hair is shaved at the sides and longer on top. I didn’t have to style it, only had to run my fingers through it.

Throwing my black jacket and black boots on, I grabbed my wallet and room key before leaving. As I walked through the lobby I waved to the lady at the front desk.

“H-have a g-great night sir!” She stuttered out calling after me.

I didn’t reply. Sometimes it was hard to ignore the women who showed interest in me. I am human (sort of) I have needs, urges, like anyone else. But I always held back.

My dad had told me so many times that waiting for your mate would be worth it. He told me how he waited for Mom and that she waited for him. Although that was completely different.

First of all, they grew up together. The day Dad turned 18 he knew what Mom was to him. And apparently it was a s**t show after that anyways. Nothing like what will happen when I meet my mate.

Still, being a 20 year old man trying to stay celibate for my mate was hard. There were times that I thought about giving in. Just for one night, even if I didn’t have s*x I could at least have something right?

No. Kohen refused to let me give up. At this point how could I?

After all the time I have invested now.

I walked the streets of Fort Benton for a couple of hours. This town is dead. Barely a soul around. I know this town is small but I thought that there would be more people out.

It’s only 10 p.m. for f**k’s sake. I searched all the main areas of the town looking for those f**k heads and never found them. They’re here somewhere, I know they are. Tia wouldn’t of sent me here if she wasn’t sure.

After another hour of walking around I stumbled across a bar. The place was pumping and seemed to be the only life of the small town. I paused in front of it reading the neon sign.

The Drunken Soul.

Huh, that’s a name for a bar I guess. A couple bumped into me on their way in. They at least turned around to apologize. Something was calling me to go in and my feet moved on their own.

I walked into the crowded and loud bar. There are a couple of pool tables on one side of it. Booths and tables filled the room and loud country music was playing. After looking around I headed towards the end of the bar that allowed me to face the door, and sat down at one of the stools.

There was no bar tender behind the bar right now so I took the time to look around again. This place looks like your clique small town bar. People were being roudy and some were dancing to the music. I couldn’t help but chuckle at them.

Then the most wonderful scent hit my nose. It was a mix of jasmine and rain. The best smell in the entire world. Kohen perked up at the smell.

“What can I get ya?” Came the most musical voice I have ever heard.

I turned my head towards the voice and froze when my eyes connected with the most beautiful purple and gold ones. The women in front of me is by far the most beautiful women I have ever seen. Her skin is dark in color yet light? She looks to be of Arabic ethnicity maybe but her skin is pale still.

Her unique eyes stood out against her skin as they bore into mine. My eyes trailed down her curvy body. She’s wearing a tight pair of dark skinny jeans and a small black tank top that is much too small for her. Her perfect breasts are practically spilling out the top of her bright red bra and I had to fight down a growl. When my eyes returned to her face I noticed she is blushing.

Kohen was going insane inside my head.

“Uhm I can come back in a minute if you don’t know…” My mate trailed off as she turned around.

“No no.” I said in a rush.

She turned back and smiled to me showing me two perfect dimples. I melted. Right into a puddle on the floor.

“Well, what do you want?” She asked amused.

“Your name.” I told her.

Nice. When did I become so smooth?

My mate giggled and it was the best music I have ever heard.

“My name is Epperly.” She told me. “Now, what kind of drink can I get you? I have other customers.” She told me.

“Epperly..” I said and her blush returned.

Can she feel this? She has to be human, I don’t sense anything else from her.

“Can I just get a beer. Whatever you have on tap.” I told her.

“Sure thing cutie.” She called me cute. “As soon as I see your ID.” She told me.

I scrambled to pull my wallet out and my room key fell out too.

“Oops.” I murmured as I shoved it back in my pocket.

Then I handed her my drivers license.

“Hmm. Morningstar. Interesting.” She said. “That your real last name?” She asked as she went to pour me my beer.

I shook my head and gave her a small laugh.

“No. I know it seems fake but it’s not.” I told her.

“Oh so you are just the devils spawn then.” She said amused as she put the beer down in front of me.

“I guess you could say that.” I said teasingly.

“So, you’re from out of town I see.” She said as she fluttered her eyelashes at me.

“Are you flirting with me Epperly?” I asked her as I leaned over the bar to be closer to her.

Just when she opened her mouth to answer someone from the other side of the bar called for her. Epperly gave me a sheepish smile.

“Sorry, like I said, I got other customers.” She said.

For the next hour I watched my mate work. She made drinks and cleaned tables. I would often catch men checking her out and had to fight with Kohen not to rip them all to shreds. I’m sure that would have blown over nicely.

Every few minutes her eyes would flicker to me and I would smile at her. I wasn’t sure if she expected me to look away after being caught watching her, but I didn’t care about being caught. She’s my mate, I will watch her all I want.

Epperly would also slide a beer my way everytime that she noticed mine was empty. It seemed like she wanted me here as much as I wanted to be here.

Finally, after some time she got a break in customers and slid another beer my way.

“You’re going to get drunk at this rate Ambrose. This is your fifth beer in an hour.” She told me in a teasing tone.

“I know how to handle myself, but if you’re worried you can always walk me back to my hotel.” I gave her my best smile.

A couple hours later we were closing up the bar. I could tell that Epperly’s boss Sam didn’t feel comfortable with her leaving with me. That both equally pissed me off and made me happy. Pissed, because she is my mate. I would never hurt and I will always protect her.

Happy, because at least my mate has people in her life that look out for her. Sam is good people. Even when he pulled Epperly aside to make sure she was okay with this, he was good.

As soon as Epperly walked out of the bar I grabbed her hand. I couldn’t help myself, I just need to touch her. Thankfully she didn’t seem to mind and twined her fingers in mine. The simple act had my heart soaring.

f**k, I love her already. I mean, I know that is how the mate bond works but feeling it is so different.

Along our walk back to my hotel room I tried to ask her questions to get to know her better. Most of them she answered but I found that when I questioned about her past or where she was living she didn’t want to answer.

My mate is actually very open about what she will and will not answer. Epperly is a very blunt person and I was loving it. My family is going to love her, especially my sisters.

Epperly did answer other questions for me though. I found out that her favorite food is anything mexican. As long as it’s real mexican food. Apparently she likes spicy. She also loves the small town life and the nature.

All good things considering where we will live. Epperly’s favorite color is green and she loves children. I love everything about her so far.

I could tell that she felt comfortable with me and that made me smile. Even though she’s human she is still able to feel the bond. I could only hope that was enough to not freak her out tomorrow when I tell her the truth.

Once we entered the lobby of the hotel it was very quiet. There was no one at the front desk and I let out a sigh of relief. I was a bit afraid that lady would be here and try to flirt with me again. It was awkward enough without me bringing my mate back.

Epperly and I made our way up to my room. She was chatting with me about the difference between kettle corn and glazed popcorn. I had no idea that there was a difference but my mate apparently did. She really takes her food seriously. I’d have to remember that.

Right before I was about to insert the key card I stopped and turned to Epperly. f**k, she is so beautiful. Those f*****g dimples are going to melt me.

“Before I open this door I want to make sure you know why I asked you to come up here. We don’t have to do anything that you don’t want to do. If you want to stop at anytime just tell me. Okay?”

She nodded to me with a smile on her face.

“And you’re sure?” I asked to be sure but my mate seemed to think I was funny.

“Yes Ambrose. I am very sure that I want you to take me into your hotel room and f**k me.” She told me sweetly.

I felt the blush creep up my neck before my mate laughed again. Like I said, she is a very blunt women. And all mine. Forever.

“Alright then.” I said as I adjusted my jeans and pushed the card into the slot.

My f*****g mate has had me hard as a rock since she laid those interesting eyes on me. The door beeped quietly and I held the door open for her.

Epperly walked into the room and looked around. My hotel room looked like any other hotel room but it seemed that my mate found it interesting.

Has she never been inside of a hotel before? What kind of life has she lived?

Epperly ran her hand across the bed before jumping onto it with a giggle.

I chuckled at her causing her to sit up on her elbows.

“You laughing at me?” She asked with fake attitude.

“What if I am?” I teased.

Epperly fluttered her lashes at me.

“Well that wouldn’t be very nice of you Mr. Morningstar.”

f**k, that was hot.

I walked over to the end of the bed where her feet are. Without looking away from her eyes I crawled into the bed until my face was hovering over hers.

My mate reached up and ran her hands along my body. I had to fight the shutters that threatened to wrack my body. I closed my eyes and just enjoyed my mates touch. Kohen purred in my head.

“You are such a big man.” She said softly.

I chuckled and opened my eyes to look into hers.

“I’ve been told.” I said and then reached up to trail a finger along her face.

“Are these contacts?” I asked referring to to her eyes.

Epperly nodded, of course they are.

Again she nodded.

I dipped my head down until my lips brushed against hers. I paused to give her a chance to back out, but she didn’t. Then I pressed my lips to her soft ones.

“Okay.” I said patiently.

“This might be hard to believe since I left the bar with a stranger.” She said with a hollow laugh. “But I have never done this before..” She said softly.

“Had s*x?” I asked with a furrowed brow. That can’t be right. This perfection has never been touched before?

Epperly nodded.

“I, uhm, have never done anything before.” She told me.

I am not sure if she believes me or not. She didn’t say anything further but her eyes still held the same l**t. Looking into her purple and golden eyes I peeled the rest of her clothes off slowly. Epperly was growing impatient with how slow I was going and I planned to keep going at this pace.

For now.

My hands and lips explore every single inch of her body. I wanted to memorize all of her dips and curves, all of her noises. My eyes stayed on her face so I could gage what she liked better.

Honestly, I had no clue what I was doing but it seemed like Epperly was enjoying it and that was all that mattered.
