"Much better," Riley said, his gaze softening, a stark contrast to the stern look he'd give Flora. "You're so pretty, Emerson. Don't worry, I promised to promote you and I will. I'll make sure you're among the A-listers, and soon you'll be winning awards, too.

"The masses seem to favor her type right now, but I won't let that continue. I'll hold the money for now and use it for you when the time comes. As for hiring a detective, I'll set aside a million for a less experienced one to see if they can uncover anything."

Being an agent requires maintaining certain appearances, no matter what, to avoid criticism.

"Surely, Flora will hire a detective, personally." Emerson added, squeezing Riley's hand, "You're so good to me, Riley."

Riley looked at Emerson's young and beautiful face, making him smile.
