“I know why they didn’t arrest you.

You’re Hector Brown, the former police chief.”

Hector’s broad grin suddenly froze.

“You knew it? How can you call the cops on me just now? Brat, tell me you didn’t do that intentionally!” Hector was upset that he was nearly brought to the police station as a suspect.

He let out a snort.

Lightheartedly, Joey said, “No, I discovered it while you argued with the two policemen.”

In light of this, Hector’s anger subsided.

His dull eyes suddenly gleamed.

“Why would you want to look into my identity?” he questioned.

Joey did not respond.

As he heard Lila’s voice behind him, he stared up at the moon and said, “I should be getting back.”

After that, he turned back and prepared to leave.

Hector was going to stop Joey since he hadn’t gotten a chance to ask his question.

Joey abruptly stopped, turned around, and said to Hector, “Old guy, you’d best get back.

It’s getting dark, and my mother will be back soon.

She might take you for a human trafficker too.”

Lila waited for Joey for a very long time, but he never showed up.

She approached him with some apprehension.

Hector saw Lila coming and knew he had to get out of there before she could spot him.

“Then I’ll see you first thing in the morning here!”

He had no idea whether Joey ever heard him.

Joey continued walking without stopping.

Hector paused for a second in front of the gate, then walked away.

Immediately after he had walked for a while, a Bentley approached from a distance and proceeded to the yard.

Nothing but darkness surrounded Apliaria; night had fallen.

A thick cloud obscured the moon, although some stars remained visible.

As soon as Rachel exited the restroom, she saw a little figure sitting on the bed holding his beloved pillow.

He gave her a quick look and called out, “Mommy.”

“Himm?”

“Mommy, I’d want to sleep beside you tonight.

Is that okay?” Joey inquired.

With a bright grin, Rachel plucked the pillow from his arms and placed it next to her own.

“Sure.

After you, baby!”

Joey nodded and lay down for Rachel to give him a hug and a kiss goodnight.
