5 Resettlement Housing Community, Evergreen Road,

Maple District, Apliaria.”

The Maple District was a small town located in the suburb of

Apliaria.

Jack had purchased the land there with the intention of developing it into a scenic area, but he was forced to abandon the project due to a financial crisis.

Eventually, Jack sold it to a real estate developer for pennies on the dollar.

Having expropriated the homes of a neighbouring village, he located new homes for its residents.

However, even with the relocation money they got, only a few villagers still chose to stay there, along with the people who did not receive money and those who had no other place to go.

Some of the apartments in the resettlement area were rented to non-locals who were employed in the area’s factories.

People knew this was a poor neighborhood.

It was a little past eight o’clock when Rachel pulled into the village.

She passed by some people who were wearing sloppy clothes and slippers.

Their hair looked untidy, and they yawned as they headed for the village’s main road, where they would catch the factory’s bus.

The village had only three roads, and each was so narrow that only one vehicle could travel on them at a time.

Despite the village’s poverty, it did a decent job of portraying itself as a pleasant place to visit.

The village might not have had any resources for improvement, but at least the roads were well- marked.

Rachel had to reduce her speed when driving her Cayenne because there were many pedestrians on the road.

In such a rundown town, the sight of a luxury vehicle like this one was unusual for the locals.

It was already a miracle if they could see one in a year.

Because her car caught the eye of the villagers, they stopped what they were doing to examine it more closely.

It got increasingly difficult to drive as more and more people converged on the road.

In the end, Rachel stepped on the brakes before checking the time on the display screen installed in the car.

She was sure the villagers would eventually leave.

They might be curious, but they still had work to do.

So, she waited until they left.

She was not in a hurry, anyway.

However, it seemed that she had underestimated the villagers

‘ curiosity.

As she prepared to send a message to Quintin to ask him about Joey, she bowed her head.

If her calculation of the time difference was not wrong, it should be nine o’clock in the evening at Quintin’s side.

She was about to hit “send” when she spotted a face outside the glass.

It belonged to a man with green hair and a scrawny appearance.

He was pressing his forehead against the glass of the window in an effort to get a better view of the interior of the car or of whoever was inside.

For a moment, Rachel was alarmed by his monkey-like features and behavior.

She had planned on ignoring him, but he appeared determined to stay until he got a good look at what was on the inside.

In less than a minute, he adopted a number of different stances.

Because of the protection film on the car window, the man outside could only see his reflection and not her.

Even so, it was unsettling to have such a face staring at her.

Rachel held out for another five minutes.

Upon noticing that there were fewer people on the road, she became tempted to get going.

However, before she could let go of the brakes, she heard a conversation outside the car.
