Knock! Knock! Knock!

Joey carefully held the bowl of noodles as he knocked on the door of the study.

“Come in.” Victor’s low voice responded from the room.

Joey gently opened the door.

He stood at the doorway as his eyes scanned the room and saw Victor sitting behind the desk.

He had on a pair of glasses and was signing on a document.

Then, he took out a copy from the stack of documents on the table and continued going through it, his eyes fully focused on the paper before him.

His eyes and brows glowed rather indistinctly in the bright golden light of the study which splattered a soft warmth over his shoulder and his chiseled face.

When Victor heard the door creaked open but didn’t see anyone come in, he paused to look in the direction of the door.

Joey was still at the doorway with the noodles in his hand.

For a split second, Victor was surprised but quickly snapped out of it.

He glanced at the bowl of noodles, asking, “What’s the matter?”

“Uh… Lukas said you haven’t had dinner yet,” Joey said in a boyish tone that sounded almost timid as he walked into the room.

Victor stared at him without saying a word.

Joey placed the bowl of noodles on the table.

“I can’t finish these noodles alone.

It’s too much, and it’ll be wasteful pouring it away.

My mommy says it’s wrong to waste food, so…”

He paused for a moment, his gaze meeting Victor’s gaze and his eyes hopeful.

“So, do you mind joining me?”

After a long silence, just when Joey thought that Victor was going to turn him down, he finally nodded.

Joey quickly flashed a wide smile, showing his two cute upper canine teeth.

“Alright then, I’LL go get an extra set of bowl and chopsticks for you.”

“No need for that.”

This surprised Joey.

“But I only took a pair of chopsticks.

Lukas said you are very hygienic and you don’t share same pair of chopsticks with others while eating.”

Ignoring Joey’s statement, Victor replied, “You can eat first.

Just give it to me when you’re satisfied.”

Joey’s eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.

Did he mean that he didn’t mind?

Victor didn’t miss the surprise in Joey’s eyes.

He looked away, not wanting to explain.

He picked up another document and said, “You can eat the noodles over there.”

“Okay.” Joey nodded, took the noodles and walked towards the tea table on the other side of the study.
