CEO's Tears Over Pregnancy Test Discovery -
Chapter 1534
Unfortunately, Ben couldn't see through any of this.
Summer, however, wasn't the least bit intimidated. Shaking her head confidently, she said, "I've never done anything to upset him. I don't believe that just exchanging a few words with him would make him kick me out." Mrs. Lucas opened her mouth, about to say something, but seeing Summer's confident demeanor, she hesitated. Maybe, just maybe, Ben might actually feel too awkward to reject her outright. And if a little covert manipulation were added into the mix...
Suddenly, Mrs. Lucas had an idea.
Hearing it, Summer's eyes lit up with excitement. "Mrs. Lucas, that's an excellent plan! We should act quickly before he does anything else irrational." "Alright."
Though the plan was solid, the two of them decided to put it into action three days later.
Meanwhile, Ben hadn't been to the office lately, but he was still keeping track of all the firm's cases. He was also trying to reach Winnie, but while her phone would ring, she never picked up.
As for Jamie, every conversation between them seemed to end in conflict. Jamie, however, maintained a hearty appetite. To her, eating was non-negotiable. She needed strength to escape when the opportunity arose.
Ben found it infuriating. Approaching her with a sneer, he mocked, "You claim to be so worried about your son, but this is how you show it? Jamie, is there even a shred of truth in anything you say?" Jamie hadn't expected Ben to blow up over something so trivial. But then again, he hated her. Naturally, every little thing about her annoyed him. In his eyes, her flaws were magnified a hundredfold. Not wanting to stoke his anger further, she replied calmly, "Ben, if I don't eat and starve to death here, what happens when Charlie comes back and I'm not here to see him?"
"Always excuses. I see no trace of grief on your face," Ben retorted coldly.
Jamie didn't know how to respond.
After a brief pause, Jamie let out a self-deprecating laugh. "People don't share the same perspective. I can't change how you see things."
"Are you saying I'm just picking a fight for no reason?" Ben's expression darkened.
Living under Ben's watchful eye gave Jamie an odd sense of déjà vu, as though they were back to the early days of their relationship. Yet, their words were now laced with hostility and resentment. It was nothing but a hollow echo of what once was.
Jamie pressed her lips together and said quietly, "You find fault with everything I do. In your eyes, even my smallest actions are glaring flaws. So tell me, what's left for me to say?"
She had no hope of convincing him to let her go, and she wasn't going to plead.
He hadn't cut off her internet access or taken her phone. He knew she wouldn't call the police.
It wasn't that she didn't dare, but that she didn't want to.
If she reported him, it would destroy his legal career. They had once loved each other deeply, and she knew how much he loved his work. How could she be the one to ruin that?
"You're blaming me now?" Ben's sharp eyes narrowed as he strode closer to her.
Jamie lowered her head, her smile
tinged with bitterness. "If anyone's to
blame, it's me. I should've left for
good when I walked away the first
time I shouldn't have let you find me again."
"Too bad," Ben said, his voice cold and unforgiving. "It's too late for that now. Jamie, I'm going to make sure you regret everything. I'll make you suffer."
