The woman had deliberately spoken in a vague and ambiguous way.

She had been sent by Summer, with Mrs. Lucas's covert assistance. Together, they had schemed to place a helper in the villa with a simple enough task with their combined influence.

But to Jamie, the words carried a different implication. This was Lucas's territory, which meant this woman had likely been instructed by Ben. If Jamie didn't drink the soup, she was certain Ben wouldn't let it slide.

A wave of bitterness washed over her. "Fine, just leave it over there. I'll drink it later when I'm thirsty."

"Miss Lewis, I need to personally see you finish the soup before I can leave. If you're not ready to drink it now, that's no problem. I'll just wait here." The woman placed the tray on the table, pulled a chair over, and sat directly in front of Jamie. Her stare was unrelenting, her attitude clear. She wasn't leaving until the job was done.

If it had been anyone else in Jamie's place, the woman wouldn't dare to act so brazenly. But it was Jamie, someone Mrs. Lucas had openly declared needed to be driven out sooner or later. With that assurance, the woman felt free to act as she pleased. "I'll wait as long as it takes, Miss Lewis," she said smugly. "Even if it's the whole day, I've got time."

Jamie, preoccupied with finding her son, didn't have the energy or patience to argue. With a resigned sigh, she picked up the bowl and gulped down the soup in a few large sips, then handed the bowl back to the woman. "There, I've finished. You can leave now." "Of course. Rest well, Miss Lewis," the woman replied, taking the bowl and walking out triumphantly.

She exited the villa and got into a waiting car, which promptly drove her to meet Mrs. Lucas.

Back in the villa, Jamie began to feel light-headed almost immediately after drinking the soup. But she brushed it off.

Lucas might be cruel with his words and adept at psychological games, but poisoning her seemed beneath him. If he had wanted to harm her like that, he wouldn't have waited this long.

She opened her wardrobe, pulled out some fresh clothes, and changed. But as she descended the stairs, the dizziness intensified. She clutched the handrail tightly, moving step by step with increasing difficulty. By the time she made it back to her room, her legs gave out, and she collapsed onto the bed, unconscious.

The sprawling villa was eerily silent. With no one else around, her condition went unnoticed.

Meanwhile, Summer received confirmation from the helper and couldn't contain her glee. "You've done well. The payment I promised will be transferred to your account in full. Now, you're free to leave

The helper, knowing better than to linger, departed quickly. The last thing she wanted was to face repercussions later, especially if it led to legal trouble.

Summer leaned back, a triumphant

smile playing on her lips. She had planned everything meticulously. The drug in the soup would induce a high fever, one that would worsen over time until death claimed its victim quietly and without suspicion.

Even if Ben investigated, there would be nothing to trace back to her.

"Jamie," Summer murmured, relishing the imagined scene, "without your life, what do you have left to fight me with?"

In her mind, she had already envisioned Jamie's downfall in vivid detail.
